Sep. 9, 2004
evile: hey :) How's everything?
SkyeDS: I got stuff accomplished this morning so I'm happy
evile: good :)
SkyeDS: not a hitch, and the girls were wanting me to play when we
got home. Took off across the pasture at a frolicking gallop, I
waved good bye, walked away, they came back and were tearing around
in front of me, because I wouldn't go out there with them
evile: aww.
SkyeDS: I do like to watch them play
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I won my first two ebay auctions last night
SkyeDS: some sniper ran it up $55.
evile: suck!
SkyeDS: still cheaper than the original set I wanted
SkyeDS: which I will still buy, maybe for xmas
evile: and still a freakin great deal...
SkyeDS: I showed sineater the white halter & collar set I bought for
Jesse. Told him, happy birthday, early
evile: aww.
SkyeDS: he never wants to know in advance what I got him, but I
figure, it's being delivered to the house, he's going to see them
evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: can you post pics to lj?
SkyeDS: I think you can, right?
evile: yes.
SkyeDS: do you use an lj client?
evile: I don't think so...
SkyeDS: still looking around for how to put pics in a post
SkyeDS: ah, Faq 6
evile: Sharjinka was having a devil of a time with photos a couple
months ago.
SkyeDS: you have to load them to a webserver first
SkyeDS: which is no problem
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I spent all day yesterday uploading pics to yahoo and
organizing shared folders, very productive
evile: cool :)
evile: I was mostly unproductive yesterday. Green Chile fest at
CHuy's with [aunt L and uncle B], and then a bit of research for material
sources for the necklace I want to make (like I don't have 47 boxes
of beads & findings and whatnot already...just not what I need for
THIS necklace)
SkyeDS: Kelly LOVES Chuy's
evile: It's reliable.
SkyeDS: we used to go there quite a bit after Barad Duin, in these
big groups that seem to coagulate around me when I ask Kelly and the
kids if they want to hit Chuy's before we go home
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: parking usually good, understanding about the bird and the
horses, always good
evile: yeah.
evile: the most interesting thing on this year's green chile menu is
the green chile cheesecake. It was good.
SkyeDS: we were going to participate in their Xmas parade until I
realized they wanted $50 entrance fee
evile: oh. ew.
evile: I'm feeling cranky today. I would not go to poly dinner
tonight but I told Nolan I'd be his ride.
SkyeDS: nods. you might not feel as cranky later, and going might
actually make it better, it happens
evile: probably. all of the annoyances today have had to do with work.
SkyeDS: if I could just get one lesson a week scheduled reliably I
could work 36 hours/4 days here
evile: One claimant was trying so hard to find a job, "literarily"
sending 30-50 resumes a week!
evile: I can't imagine why someone hasn't snapped him up!
SkyeDS: rofl
evile: then there's preggo 350+lb coworker who has all these health
problems related to weight & pregnancy, and complains CONSTANTLY
about how miserable she is, yet ate at least a thousand calories
worth of fat, salt, and sugar for breakfast (starbux drink & mcd's
sandwich)
SkyeDS: lol I splurged on a McD's burger and fries after my morning
excursions and on the way into work. And I felt good that I got
lemonade and not Coke.
evile: you have no fetus to be damaged by caffeine, sugar, and
salt. eat whatever you want, IMNSHo
SkyeDS: I felt better about lemonade because of the caffeine/sugar
issue
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: Diet Coke is nasty, doesn't have sugar, but is loaded w/
caffeine
evile: I have never seen that woman eat a vegetable or piece of
fruit. EVER. And she and I have worked together for YEARS now.
evile: Her doctor has flat out told her no caffeine, and there she
was sucking down a fattalatte with a ton of sugar, whipped cream, and
what-have you, and Sbux has the most caffeine of ANY coffee house
coffee.
evile: and, really, if she's going ot abuse her body so that she's
sick and I end up doing more work to pick up the slack, I do NOT want
to hear how sick and miserable she is. She is doing it to herself, I
have NO sympathy.
SkyeDS: I have enough bad habits to break, I am glad that I didn't
acquire coffee, beer, mayo, sour cream, ranch, etc
SkyeDS: although I still maintain that fat alone isn't the issue
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: apparently moderation isn't in her vocabulary at all anywhere
evile: nope. That kid's going to be born with the cardiovascular
system of a 40 year old.
SkyeDS: :(
evile: it really is sad.
SkyeDS: the nurse this morning commented on one of the clients having
no business owning pets
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: 31 pics, ack
evile: ?
SkyeDS: maybe I should have just settled for linking the whole ebay
page lol
SkyeDS: but I don't want people necessarily seeing what I paid
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: or running up the bids on the two pendings
evile: good point.
evile: OH no! Red X of death on your LJ entry!
SkyeDS: working on it
evile: *nod*
evile: I've had it where it looks fine to me, but nobody else can see
it. very big WTF moment.
SkyeDS: I decided just to go with a url
SkyeDS: people can find the correct album and peruse it on their own
a lot easier than putting 31 individual addresses in complicated code
evile: *nod*
evile: Oh, good news: we got a reprieve on the 'witnessing the birth'
nonsense--[The Rubber Pig] has been put on 'bed rest' (which of course explains
why she was 'at the grocery store' when [aunt L] called) and is thinking
of having a C section with this one.
SkyeDS: [brother A] left a message saying she was bleeding and that's why
they hadn't brought Paulie
evile: Oh, good, at least he's keeping YOU posted. I haven't heard
from him since he left a message Monday.
SkyeDS: I think that was part of the message he left us late Monday
evile: bi. zarre. He called around 5 Monday and said he was thinking
of coming up, except it was raining, so he might not.
SkyeDS: I would have to ask sineater exactly when the msg was left, and
the wording, and he'd probably have to check the call registry to
verify time
evile: Does he think we don't talk to each other, so tells each
person a different lie?
SkyeDS: that sounds like a [The Rubber Pig] thing (although I don't know [brother A]
well enough, maybe that's an [brother A] thing too, who knows?)
SkyeDS: I remember sineater mentioning the bleeding thing because we
thought she was setting up for a "miscarriage"
SkyeDS: and I thought it was probably just a period.
evile: [brother A] tells people what they want to hear, spins stories so as
to highlight a point he wants to get across....but he's never lied
outright like this before [The Rubber Pig].
evile: Well, I have mixed feelings about a miscarriage.
evile: (assuming there is actually a pregnancy..)
evile: her last episode of bleeding/ER-going was about ....hmm...28
days ago.
evile: Can you actually have sex and give birth 3 times and be so
dirt fucking ignorant that you don't know what a period is??!??!
SkyeDS: I don't think it's ignorance
SkyeDS: I think it's willful stupidity
evile: What is WRONG with [brother A]?!??! Grrrr.
evile: Oh, also, [The Rubber Pig]'s medicaid was cancelled--seems that all her
last names set off their 'fraud' alerts & now I guess she's appealing
it.
SkyeDS: ROFL
evile: considering she only has one legal marriage on the books, I
can see why medicaid m ight think she is running a scam of some sort.
evile: what I wouldn't give to have access to THEIR databases..
SkyeDS: last time we called their office they were 3 years behind,
literally, answering questions over the phone
SkyeDS: and medicare was 2 years behind
evile: wow.
evile: I'd believe it--I temped there one summer & we had mandatory 9
hour days doing data entry all day.
SkyeDS: wonder what EAS is
evile: ? in what context?
SkyeDS: some sort of pagan group?
evile: Oh, I've seen references to that. But no idea.
evile: If Tony or Niki are at dinner tonight, I'll ask them. They are
both in CMA & might know.
evile: witchvox is so far unhelpful.
SkyeDS: yep
evile: oh! found it=Earth Spirit Alliance\
http://65.109.176.127/home.shtmlSkyeDS: I wonder if it's Earth Spirit Alliance
SkyeDS: jinx :P
evile: :P great minds think alike. That or we are sharing the last
remaining braincell.
SkyeDS: I looked up Harvest King
evile: *nod*
evile: Now I remember, ESA was the very wierd & disorganized bunch
who solicited me out of the blue for a spring festival about a year
ago or so.
evile: The solicitation was addressed to 'spiritual seeker' At the
time I was worried that CMA had sold my info to someone.
evile: Then I looked at the organizers and realized that Loke E
Coyote had probably sold HIS mailing list to them, since he appears
to be a member /bigwig of ESA
SkyeDS: noticed the usual "I need help finding sites for CRW" is
starting back up
SkyeDS: the last site was just fine
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: and there are lots of good SPs but noooo
evile: I am beginning to see the wisdom of having one person/group do
CRW every year, so that the wheel need not be re-invented endlessly.
SkyeDS: they say the first CRWs were best
SkyeDS: interestingly enough those were run by Drandmir (specifically
Nezzerin and Rue)
SkyeDS: Rue isn't officially Drandmir but he spends as much time
there as his official home of Silver Spire
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: lol well J ought to enjoy Harvest King, there's a sacred sex
workshop going on
SkyeDS: maybe he'll finally get laid and quit whining about it
SkyeDS: I doubt he'll ever figure out that driving your only source
of sex away with bad behavior wasn't a bright thing for a nympho to do
evile: *grinz* It does sound interesting, but Niki's party is that
weekend.
evile: Maybe I'll go to their BDSM weekend in April, if the group
lasts that long.
evile: they used my 2 fave words: 'fire play'....very tempting.
SkyeDS: wonder what their pet policy is
evile: I can't find one.
SkyeDS: me neither, w hy I'm wondering :P
evile: other than that, seems like a C&P from CMA's
SkyeDS: they seem to have a self proclaimed Strega, I might write him
and ask out of curiosity
SkyeDS: but it isn't like I have time to pursue pagan stuff right now
anyway
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: as it is we have to consider nixing one event for the
biannual CBar trail ride
SkyeDS: events are cheaper than the trail ride
evile: yeah....
SkyeDS: on the other hand we're going to 8 events this fall, surely
we could sacrifice 1
SkyeDS: and the trail ride is more expensive in part because they
keep us fed. and well fed might I add.
evile: true.
SkyeDS: but if there's a pagan group that will allow pets to
festivals, I'd find that useful knowledge
evile: yeah, just for future reference :)
SkyeDS: I emailed them to ask.
SkyeDS: alternatively I could submit myself as a merchant (selling
rides and readings)
evile: *nod* this is true.
SkyeDS: I'd rather not vend.
SkyeDS: it's a money vs having fun thing
SkyeDS: making money is good, but it isn't as much fun as riding
myself
evile: I know this feeling :)
SkyeDS: you would think we could do both
evile: not me.
SkyeDS: but usually there isn't time
SkyeDS: usually one trip around the site draws enough business to
keep us the rest of the day
evile: yeah.
evile: I think you've got part of the right answer going: HAVE STAFF.
SkyeDS: three animals, three pair of hands is usually good
SkyeDS: and the boys are very good natured about my dictatorial self
evile: *nod*
evile: I dont' work well enough with others to have staff.
SkyeDS: still waiting on Calena from Ingleside to decide whether
we're just doing demos or vending
SkyeDS: truthfully I'm not sure whether we'll go or not, it will be a
money thing (isn't it always)
evile: yeah
SkyeDS: if doing demos means I get to go, and not pay entrance, and
have the critters there, AND ride all day rather than share, I'm down
with that
SkyeDS: might actually beat vending
evile: yeah
SkyeDS: the cost of the booth is chicken feed, specially split two
ways
evile: I loved the beach in the off-season. I don't know if I would
have liked hanging out all day at Ingleside.
SkyeDS: but the insurance she wants will probably be $$$
SkyeDS: I don't understand what people don't get about what Texas law
says.
SkyeDS: particularly her and the lawyer she works for, oh well
evile: that's gotta be a hassle...
SkyeDS: when I can afford it, and when I start doing enough
equestrian business, I will get insurance
SkyeDS: but in the meanwhile, what's the point
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: you used to do a lot of stuff at Natural Magick, their
gatherings seemed cool
evile: *nod* Sweetie being out of work shifted a lot of financial
responsibilities on to me. No $ for booth fees, supplies, etc. last
year or 2
evile: Finally getting out of the hole.
SkyeDS: I've been giving thought to not claiming the Ranch as a
business
SkyeDS: that way I don't have to prove a profit 2 out of every 7 years
evile: *shrug*
SkyeDS: even though losses would mean less taxes out of working for
Hugh
evile: I haven't been in it 7 yrs yet, will burn that bridge when I
come to it.
SkyeDS: already got a bite out of taxes because I'm an indie driving
126 miles every day at 37.5 cents per mile
SkyeDS: most businesses have to show a profit 3 out of 7 - ranches
are 2 out of 7
SkyeDS: and if I don't report it as business I don't have to report
the money I get paid (which is always in cash or by check) and
something tells me, my clients aren't keeping track to be sending me
1099s
evile: yep.
SkyeDS: none of them want receipts so I just quit bothering
evile: I found that as well.
evile: I just got off the hook for taking Nolan to dinner. Now it's
just going to depend on what I feel like after I get home & do my
little after-work routine.
evile: I love Launchcast. I've discovered so many new bands that I
love. Well, not NEW, but stuff I somehow managed to miss
evile: If you've never listened to Dead Can Dance, I recommend.
Especially their albums in the mid-80's.
evile: I don't know why I didn't hear them back then. Or maybe I did
and never realized who I was listening to. I dunno. I was more into
punk & industrial than goth back then.
evile: I know the label 'goth' offends you, but I think you'd like
Dead Can Dance.
SkyeDS: the title itself doesn't offend me
SkyeDS: people who don't know what the word really means offend me
evile: *nod*
evile: or at least realize that it not only refers to a pop culture
phenomena of the 80s AND a time period considerably before that :P
evile: 'sokay--Punk originally meant someone's prison bitch.
SkyeDS: nods
evile: and fag originally meant a piece of firewood, then it got
adopted to mean cigarette, and from there to homosexual male.
SkyeDS: etymology is fun :)
evile: hee. yup.
SkyeDS: they allow pets AND would let me vend pony rides
SkyeDS: awesome
evile: excellent :)
evile: Too bad it's the same weekend as Niki's party.
evile: I really wish Time would do what it's supposed to do.
evile: Then again, I might be going to first weekend of TRF and
camping, so i might not want to camp 2 weekends in a row, anyway,
esp. since ESA seems to be 'tent only'
SkyeDS: We welcome vendors. For this next festival, vendor
fees are waived. Not sure what they will be in the
spring. Probably $5-10 plus regular admission. Spots
on vendor row are first come first served, but we got
plenty of room. If you bring a pony, you'd be
responsible for cleaning up after it and you might
want to do liability waivers. You can chuck the pony
pies in a pile by our composter, we just don't want
land mines in the field.
evile: excellent.
SkyeDS: Well behaved pets are OK. They should be either real
well trained or on a leash. Clean up after your pets.
Stay in control of your pets. If an animal starts to
cause a problem, we may have a holding pen set up, or
you may be asked to remove it.
SkyeDS: both of those responses from your friend Loki
evile: um....not really a friend, but Ok.
SkyeDS: you know him at any rate (I don't or I don't think I do)
evile: they seem like reasonable policies that, if enforced, will
ensure that everyone has a nice time and only the irresponsible pet
owners will be punished if an incident occurrs.
SkyeDS: that's what CMA started out doing
evile: hopefully it will work out better for ESA folks.
SkyeDS: what worries me in a minor way is that if we go to harvest
king someone will think I'm follwoing him
evile: to me, aint much diff between camping next to a screaming
toddler or a screaming parrot...I wouldn't want either, but ther are
reasonable ways to deal and unreasonable ones
evile: I guess you could talk it over with sineater & sonar0m & see what
they feel like doing that weekend--you've got an SCA thing same time,
so there are options :)
SkyeDS: right, and again, is more expensive
SkyeDS: HFS people need to go to other shit and see how much more
expensive it is before they start whining
evile: I agree.
SkyeDS: might drum up bidness though
evile: yup
evile: gotta spend money to make money, yadda yadda
evile: that + the Vegas Creed "Never bet more than you can afford to
lose" seem to be effective business strategies. Hard lessons from
hindsight, that's for goddamn sure...
evile: booths at Wimberley trade days are about 2 grand, from what I
saw. I don't know if there's a booth fee on top of that, but...wow.
SkyeDS: most the time make better money when I'm not trying to, odd
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: with 8 possible SCA events surely it won't hurt to miss 2
evile: Yeah.
evile: I usually try to decide by what's the most 'special' among the
several options. If it's an annual event or a 1-off, it's priority,
whereas if it's monthly its #2, weekly is #3, etc. Priority
occasionally gets moved around if there's a person involved who I
really want to see, etc.
SkyeDS: logical
evile: Well, I try to be. Sometimes I still get overwhelmed & don't
know what to do with myself.
evile: But I'm getting better about not letting overwhelmed-ness lead
to doing NOTHING when presented with too many choices
SkyeDS: I would have gone to Drandmir this weekend but not with my
parents here
SkyeDS: they won't want to go with
evile: *nod*
evile: I had intended to go, but got a late start to the bead show &
then ended up being there for a LONG time!
evile: I may be in San Antonio this upcoming Sun. Rio wants to get
together but we have no plan as of yet.
evile: she had a job interview today, I should probably give her a
call this evening.
SkyeDS: nods
SkyeDS: tis your time
evile: yup.
evile: *hugs* take care of you! :)
SkyeDS: you too! :D
