I had a really nice weekend. Saturday I cleaned house. My friend D
will be visiting this week with her 11 year old and her 4 month old,
and maybe their dog. I don't think I can really childproof our house,
but at least the child won't catch a disease from the floor at this
point. Tom, of course, hasn't done a damn thing.

Saturday evening, Jon, Niki and I shopped for dinner stuff and toobin
lunch munchies, and grilled on the pit. Shishkebobs--beef & chicken,
and veggies. small taters in foil with butter & garlic. It was yummy.

Sunday we went toobin' in San Marcos. Me, Nikiyoy, Jon, Peglegasus, his
friend/coworker Dan, Cousin B, Sweetie. This will be B's last tube trip for
a while; he's going to New Mexico for a while with his father,
leaving on Wednesday. When he talks about his mother and father, he
becomes a different person. It's sad to see. With us, he's normally
such a fun person: spontaneous, goofy, fun, sweet, easygoing,
enjoyable. And then his parents get brought up and he turns into your
typical sullen foulmouthed teenage boy. It's really heartbreaking.
Any idiot with gonads can make a kid, but the people who made him
really aren't worthy of being called 'parents.' He is a wonderful
person, in spite of his parental issues. I am glad and grateful for
him in my life, but my uncle and his ex wife had no business
    reproducing.

Tonight I need to go grocery shopping and maybe give in to the tiki-
lust. (Big Lots had a bunch of fun tiki stuffs...I really might need
some of it for Tuesday's full moon gathering :)

Dreamed about Aunt L calling me at some ungodly hour of the a.m. I was
in my room from the house we lived in on Jackson st. in Indiana, but
it was on the new house on Elm, and there was a giant storm outside
and I could see the power lines crackling and sparking with
electricity, and L's voice kept fading out as she was talking to
    me. It was wierd.

I called home yesterday to wish dad/G happy father's day. until my mom
said something I hadn't even thought to call or email my father. Oh
well. They said brother A and sineater had both called, and I probably screwed
up by telling Mom that Aunt L was trying to stay in touch with brother A for
    her sake. agh. family bullshit.

evile: hey :) How was your weekend?
SkyeDS: filled to the last minute and lovely, how was yours?
SkyeDS: I'm sorry I didn't 'set myself away, I just dropped Hugh off
    at the airport
    evile: excellent. :)
evile: We went tubin' on Sunday. B's last one for a while, he's
leaving Wednesday to go to New Mexico w/Uncle Bubba. I hope that goes
    OK
SkyeDS: I told the kids I wanted to tube, or at least spend time in
the water somewhere this summer, and the consensus was swimming
    pool :|
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: NM is a long trip, I hope it goes well too
SkyeDS: about the trip to the Valley today Hugh said he'd rather have
a hot poker stuck in his eye
    evile: I bet.
SkyeDS: so we're going to Ravens Loft :)
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: probably not Red River - which is on the same weekend as an
event weekend, and twice as far away.
SkyeDS: but I'm not sure yet
    evile: *nod*
evile: I'd love to be able to go & support all the little faires
around. But $ and time are finite things.
    SkyeDS: zactly
SkyeDS: raven's loft conflicts with the local chamber event, but oh
well. I didn't get any business from the last event so what.
evile: sounds like it could be more fun, anyway.
SkyeDS: by a long shot. and definitely more fun than CRW minus the
    children.
    evile: *nod*
evile: no animals allowed at CRW this year?
SkyeDS: Arthur could go, the girls couldn't.
SkyeDS: which means day trip, or find someone to babysit
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: particularly with the stud colt next door now
SkyeDS: Kerrville = long daytrip, and it's been made clear that CRW
is for stickjocks and not the rest of us, so why would I want to go
    where the children can't anyway
SkyeDS: we spent $100 at Home Depot in 5 hours Saturday, and then I
don't remember how much at Hobby Lobby so we have all the toys now
    evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: we made the quintain lance, mounted a shield in a tree
(didn't have time to make the quintain)
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: it swung around and made noise if you hit the back and not
    the front (padded)
SkyeDS: much fun was had smiting it
    evile: sounds like.
SkyeDS: lunch at ChikFila, dinner at Macaroni Grill
SkyeDS: the five of us and the bird
    evile: *nod*
evile: I called dad/G for father's day yesterday; he said sineater and
[brother A] called him, too. I'm so glad. Those two can be so thoughtless
    sometimes. :P

SkyeDS: I strongly suggested that we all get out our phones at the
park yesterday, so we had a round robin, the five of us.
    evile: *nod*
    evile: Oh, I assumed 'the 5 of us' meant 3 people & 2 horses. :P I
    guess not.
SkyeDS: lol me, sineater, sonar0m, Jubilee and keject
    evile: OK.
SkyeDS: we're going to implement a lot of the ideas that you and I
    brainstormed after Ingleside
    evile: cool. :)
SkyeDS: we sold one polaroid at Youth Academy
SkyeDS: didn't need to take garby things for the kids there because
    of course that was moot
    evile: That's good.
SkyeDS: got to figure out what to do for a "period" tent that won't
    cost an arm and leg
SkyeDS: maybe see what I can do to cover the outside of my hex screen
    tent
SkyeDS: or spend yet more money to get one of those pavilions that
    looks sort of period
evile: I just added some canvas to my ez up.
SkyeDS: I was looking at make your own pavilion sites this weekend,
and did much reading about canvas. How was it?
SkyeDS: (keeping in mind that I am not crafty in any way, especially
    not sewing)
evile: *shrug* you have ensorcelled a seamstress, or some such, yes?
SkyeDS: Jubi rawks. I don't know if she knows canvas, but if she
didn't, she isn't scared to learn
SkyeDS: how did the ez up turn out with the canvas on it?
evile: I just cut out little flappys, sewed them end to end to go
around the top of my tent edge, and then velcroed them on. The velcro
didn't make it, so I ended up doing safety pins.
evile: I am sure I have pictures someplace...lemme go look.
SkyeDS: wishing now I hadn't sold that bigass canvas tent my parents
gave me they had since before I was born, the size of a two car garage
evile: those panther pavilions look cool, but they are unwieldy as
hell. YOu think you pack a raft o' shit now, throw in a hundred
pounds of canvas, some 4 lb iron stakes, 6 or 10 10-ft long wooden
    poles
    SkyeDS: and expensive as hell
    SkyeDS: <priced readymades all weekend
evile: yup. I looked...I can't find pictures of my EZ up. But my
first tent (bought at ACademy for something like $100) looked
authentic-ish. I think I remember it having screens that I cut off,
but after that it was fine as a booth
    http://www.freaks.net/eek/gallery/view_photo.php?set_albumName=magpies&id=shoppers
evile: Just not as easy as an ez-up. But far lighter and more
    portable than a panther.
SkyeDS: would you consider renting out your ezup with canvas for a
    couple of weekends/
    SkyeDS: ?
evile: I am not sure where it is....if I can find it, sure.
SkyeDS: I'm also going to look into getting a model I already looked
    at
SkyeDS: I bought the hex screen instead because it was screened
SkyeDS: I have the money to buy stuff with now
evile: *nod* screens are good for camping, keeps the bugs out. Not so
good for people wanting to shop.
SkyeDS: the hex would have been ideal at ESA which is why I bought it
SkyeDS: we used it at war
SkyeDS: anyway, now that we can afford it I don't see why we can't
have multiple structures for multiple purposes
evile: *nod* Academy has Ez ups for not-bad. Less than $100.
SkyeDS: there are two styles I'm thinkin - the one that thax and
goofy bring that is just the top and the triangular strips down the
    poles
SkyeDS: and then the one that is the ez up, has screens that can be
pulled back and has the dagging around the top
    evile: *nod*
evile: Now that I have room on my computer again, I should set up my
booth and take some more pictures, just for posterity &/or future
portfolio if I ever get back to it.
SkyeDS: nods, we have been slack in the photo dept lately
evile: people like pictures; it's definitely a great marketing tool.
SkyeDS: that's something else I need to do, add our "brochure" (3
page Word doc with pics) to our webpage
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: the webpage is in much need of transformation
evile: always. Once you start one, always.
evile: I have a whole list of photos to upload and move & such.
    SkyeDS: nods
evile: unfo, they're on my machine at home, and when I'm at home, I
have lots of things I'd rather be doing.
SkyeDS: tell you what I really want
SkyeDS: the arrow valley gazebo at home depot
    SkyeDS: $200
SkyeDS: sineater would shoot me in the face with a bazooka...and sonar0m
might even consider not stopping him (not really)
evile: I think I may have seen that last time I was in there, up
front with lawn furniture & such. pretty cool.
SkyeDS: and I could turn it into a camping pavilion if I got the hang
    of making canvas walls
    evile: *nod*
evile: e. keeps trying to shanghai me into making her curtains and
futon covers. I don't think she understands that I pretty much only
do theatrical sewing....which means it doesn't look good close up and
it doesn't hold up to everyday use.
evile: theatrical=nice word for half-ass, actually.
SkyeDS: I would never shanghai anyone to sew anything unless I was
sure they were doing it out of enjoyment and not a sense of noblesse
    oblige
SkyeDS: I didn't ask Jubilee about sewing stuff until she'd been
carrying around all her sewing stuff everywhere we went for weeks
evile: e. is a perfectionist, too, so I know she'd be miserable
about the outcome, but then not say anything. So I keep politely
ducking out when she asks me about it.
evile: her new BF sews, supposedly. Hopefully this means she won't
    ask me anymore.
    SkyeDS: nodnod
SkyeDS: along the same lines, I wouldn't have thought to ask daddy if
he could make me a wooden jousting course in his workshop
SkyeDS: until he kept giving me things like handcrafted wooden pens,
wooden pen cups, wooden platforms to keep candlewax off the table,
    etc etc etc
SkyeDS: turns out it was easier faster and cheaper all around to go
to home depot do half in wood and half in pvc pipe
SkyeDS: but I thought it would be ok to ask him, since he's always in
    there making stuff anyway
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: some people like to be given projects
SkyeDS: but you have to suss that out through intuition and
    observation, I think
    evile: *nod*
evile: 90% of what I do is crappy, but good enough for me. I wouldn't
insult or embarass anyone by doing it for them.
SkyeDS: I don't have a crafty bone in my body, crappy or otherwise.
SkyeDS: so nothing you do (or Jubilee or Janet or any number of
    others) looks crappy to me
evile: it would if you had to use it or look at it on a regular
basis. Works fine at a distance, just don't look too close.
SkyeDS: in the SCA they have a "10 foot rule"
SkyeDS: it doesn't have to pass inspection closer than 10 feet away
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: I'm just as happy having bought genuine bedouin native
    costume from Egypt
SkyeDS: I woudl like to be able to make barding and garb as well as
Laura, Linda and Lady Gwenhavre (Diane) do, but it isn't me, and I
don't have the inclination to devote the time to it
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: Gramma would be ashamed of me
evile: too bad for her, I guess.
evile: I consider knowing where to shop to be a finely honed
    talent :P
SkyeDS: and the choir sang amen!
evile: and, really, when you figure in what your time is worth, often
it's better to pay for exactly you want, already made and ready to go.
evile: Looks like Girls Night might not be a 'go' for tonight. Oh
well. I'm exhausted & I have a lot to do. Today is just crawling by.
SkyeDS: I've been here since 9:30 (an hour early) and it seems to be
    flying for me
evile: *nod* some days are like that. Today isn't for me. Oh well. I
have phone duty tomorrow, and taking off Wednesday, so I ought to just
stick it out without whining too much :P
evile: ooh...Sept 17. Full moon on the beach. HMMM.
evile: tablerock faire & GWNN play party are on the 17th, of course.
    hm.
SkyeDS: oh yeah, I need to talk to TableRock
evile: Kat is vending there. I believe she's been there since the
    first year.
evile: Neat little faire, not too far away. Pretty small, you can
see/do everything in a day, easily.
SkyeDS: I know that the Shire we absorbed, Tempio, talked to them
    about doing stuff
    evile: *nod*
evile: salado is a cute little town.
SkyeDS: my parents like to eat at the Stagecoach there
evile: I saw it, but I didn't go. I did go shopping in the little
antique & junk shops, which was nice.
SkyeDS: I have got to quit waiting till 4 pm to eat lunch
evile: yup. Not good for ya.
evile: oof. ed and bippy broke up.
SkyeDS: who are ed and bippy
evile: 2 folks in the austin poly group.
evile: they were a strange couple.
evile: she is this sort of Tigger-ish attention/hug slut with the
bimbo act down pat, he is this chubby math/physics geek loudmouth
blowhard, likes to sit around and make long-winded math jokes that
nobody gets but himself, and talk about how brilliantly intelligent
    he is.
evile: it'll be interesting to see which of them starts trolling poly
    dinners for new friends first.
    SkyeDS: makes face @ trolling
    evile: <======mean
evile: they are both quite obnoxious, but in two entirely different
    ways.
evile: Oracle_tx and bippy may have dated at some point. I don't
think Ed has dated anyone in poly austin that I know.
evile: Last time Ed came out to a poly dinner, it was at Triumph Cafe
and he blathered on at me for...fuckin' ever, it seems, about home
schooling & bashing public education. He has no children, he just has
a bunch of theories. It was incredibly tedious.
evile: Whereas Kyle & D have kids, Kyle home schools and he and I
have talked about it, and he makes it interesting. I guess it's not
necessarily the topic, but how the person talks about it.
SkyeDS: Randy could tell a story about sorting socks and make it
    interesting, I think you're right.
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: time for you to go home?
evile: For Ed it's all about how much smarter and better he is than
everyone else, and how nobody else knows what theyr'e doing. When
Kyle talked about it, he was enthusiastic about his stepson's
learning, and about how wonderful it was to watch him learning new
things, and how much he enjoys it...
    evile: pretty much. 2 minutes.
evile: I guess I'll take the hint :P Have a good evening. See ya
    tomorrow.
