2564good stuff, bad stuff.

    Oct. 12, 2004

sineater & I had a little talk on the phone. He called right after I'd
walked in the door from playing tennis with onyxlynxx (that was fun, btw,
and I did work up a sweat, so it was all good)

Paulie ran off sometime last week. Connie went over to sineater &
skye_ds's on Thursday to tell them. She is worried that he may have
had a reaction to the heartworm medicine. I am thinking it may have
been a bitch in heat that he's off playing with and will come home in
a few days. I don't really want to know if he's dead :( *sigh*

sineater is going to come over here to use my sewing machine, either
Tuesday or Friday. It sounded like it'll be just him, so that's good.
If it's her and him, it will suck. She just wastes so much of my time
yapping about stupid shit, who in what group is a jerk and how 'they'
talk about her behind her back to the people in authority, bla bla.

I went looking for fabric tonight, I didn't find anything that just
said 'take me home'. But I have some ideas, so that's good. I still
haven't worn my camo leather bustier out in public, so I'm thinking
that, a skirt (either camo or plain olive drab), and maybe a camo
fleece cape, will be good for faire this year. I also found some
black, green & sand colored feather boas, so that would be perfect
trim for one of my infamous decorated straw hats.

sineater ended up not taking me up on my offers for a craft night this
week. Oh well. Maybe next week. I've given up on the idea of him
leaving her, ever, no matter how abusive and evil she is, and I've
given up on the idea of having any kind of real relationship with
him...so now it's just making nice for the sake of family. Easier in
a lot of ways, but sad & frustrating on the level that I don't/can't
look at too often because it really is fucking sad.

    Mack: Hi my sweetie!
    evile: hey! you at work?
Mack: I came home for lunch.
Mack: You know, I haven't tried ICQ from work.
    evile: hee. must be nice.
Mack: Can't do it on a bike, though. :-/
evile: not for lunch, or not at all?
Mack: We rode all over the dang place last night!
    Mack: Not for lunch.
    evile: cool!
    Mack: Peglegasus's-->Whataburger-->Bob's-->Around his hood-->Hancock Center--

    evile: wow!
evile: Um...I played Tennis fo rhalf an hour and hten I went to
    fabric stores. woo!
    Mack: hee
    Mack: anything good?
evile: I think I will do the 'camo peasant' this year for faire.
    Mack: Hee.
evile: I just need to get a camo mug & maybe belt, and I want to make
    a camo fleece cloak.
Mack: Gonna wear your orc boots?
evile: yeah. I may bust out the orc for halloween this year.
evile: if I can still fit into the body suit...ugh.
Mack: We could be Lyndie England and leashed prisoner!
    evile: who? oh, yeah, her.
evile: LOL, that is exactly what Shane suggested to J-Law for the party
they are going to. J-Law thought it would be in very bad taste :P
Mack: That's why I like it!
evile: I don't want you in your underwear on 6th street.
Mack: All we'd need would be a pair of camo pants, a brown army t-
shirt, some blue rubber gloves, and maybe an orange jumpsuit for me.
    And a leash.
evile: heh. OMG, you are too sick!!
    Mack: ?!
evile: that's not nice. we'd probably be killed by republicans.
Mack: No. Sick would be Peglegasus dressing up as England.
    evile: *twitch*
Mack: Also, I didn't get killed as Jesus
    evile: true enough.
Mack: I bet there'd even be someone else down there dressed up like
    that.
    evile: true.
Mack: Methinks meesa gonna go back to work

    evile: howdy :)
    SkyeDS: how do :)
evile: recovered from the weekend yet?
SkyeDS: still a little tired/sleepy. chose not to go to fighter
practice, watched two of the ten movies I bartered for
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: Ever After and What Women Want
    evile: cute movies.
    SkyeDS: 10 movies for a $5 ride wasn't bad
    evile: *nod* that's pretty cool.
SkyeDS: saw Acadiana this weekend, she looks marvelous (you had said
    that)
    evile: *nod*
evile: she has a LJ, too.
SkyeDS: sineater asked what terms we were on with her, and I said look,
she's friendly to us, be friendly back. She and her now-ex pulled
some particularly nasty stuff on t he both of us a very long itme
ago, and I told him, far as I"m concerned, the statute of limitations
    on that one has run
evile: It's not really in sineater to forgive & forget.
SkyeDS: well she paid the karma on it already
    SkyeDS: hence her now-ex
SkyeDS: he did to her something similar to the prank they played on
    us. debt paid.
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: besides, the best revenge is a life well lived
    evile: *nod*
evile: Then again, if someone has proven to be untrustworthy in the
past, no reason to give them more opportunities to fuck you over in
    the present.
evile: But one can always manage to be polite and unconfrontational
without admitting a person back into ones life and confidences.
SkyeDS: we can be friendly without trusting her with the lives of the
    children
    evile: *nod* exactly
SkyeDS: experience has taught me that if revenge is really all that
important to me, all I need do is wait. The Powers that Be extract
revenge far better than I do.
SkyeDS: the Law of Return really does work.
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: besides, I don't care about revenge so much anymore
    evile: good.
SkyeDS: and we're getting old, we don't have time for grudges, be it
    in our natures or not
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I think he's mellowing out in his old age, and just doesn't
want to admit it, or do so gracefully
    evile: heh.
evile: the really amusing thing about my HS reunion is that I
recognized lots of people, but really didn't remember much about
them, and I know that in HS there were very bright hatreds & very
intense loves for a lot of my peers, all kinds of drama...and it just
didn't matter 10 years later, at all.
SkyeDS: the weirdest thing happened a while back
SkyeDS: I was doing work related research on the net
SkyeDS: and turned up this helicopter ambulance service page, and lo
and behold, there was a picture of my ex
    evile: wow.
SkyeDS: he's doing what he always wanted to do, out in the middle of
nowhere, somewhere I've never heard of
SkyeDS: and he's uglier than sin
SkyeDS: he has not aged well, at all.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I'm happy for him in that he's doing what he wanted to do.
But I have to admit I took pleasure in his not aging well. Bad me.
evile: *shrug* that's normal, I think.
evile: ooh, I found a silk beledi dress online for $70
    evile: http://www.desertraintribe.com/html/catalog_gawazees.html
    SkyeDS: I love Beledi dresses
SkyeDS: not that I'll ever find one in my size
    evile: they make patterns.
evile: I almost bought more patterns last night. Hancock has their
halloween ones on sale for $2.99 and Jo-Anns for $.99
SkyeDS: on sale before halloween and not after, cool
evile: *nod* with fabrics & patterns they usually do.
SkyeDS: I haven't checked doi yas mazikaa or shimmy shimmy in a while
evile: always fun to window shop
evile: I decided to mostly go with what I have for TRF this year. i
will be making a fleece cloak, that's it. Oh, and maybe buying a mug
to match my outfit. Oh, and a hat. Gotta have the hideous feathered
    hat.
    evile: but that's it.
SkyeDS: I'd like a leather cavalier hat with the plumes but it
    wouldn't go with much
SkyeDS: although it would go with some of my court garb
SkyeDS: the various chemises with the new bodice, etc
evile: Liz of Tudor Tarts wears a cav. hat to faire.
evile: cav. hat, puffy shirt, pendragon bodice, tights, & high boots.
    SkyeDS: no skirt?
evile: all in red & black.
    evile: nope.
SkyeDS: wonder if I could do that, with my salwar pants rather than
    tights
evile: when she is performing she wears a skirt & no cav. hat.
SkyeDS: although I have two lovely tribal dancing skirts, that I
could wear a chemise, the bodice and a cav hat with
SkyeDS: don't know that I want to wear the cav hat riding per se
    evile: *nod*
    SkyeDS: or the bodice
    evile: yeah...
SkyeDS: Dracon and his lady were at HK too
    evile: oh, cool.
SkyeDS: met him when they were admiring Ragi in her bedouin garb
evile: They are incredibly sweet people. Very gracious.
SkyeDS: he put the rest of the dancers in the shade and had the most
awesome scimitar (on my wish list
evile: *nod* you should make it out to casa de luz Desert Passion
    more often :P
evile: this last one was interesting in that they had vendors, too.
    SkyeDS: brb
    SkyeDS: bk
    evile: welcome back.
evile: I am so ready to go home. I get all these ideas of things I
want to do, and then by the time I get home I've got no fucking
energy to get them done. it SUCKS. I hate working here.
    SkyeDS: <hugs>
evile: I just wish I could get my quota and go home.
evile: *sigh* but you've heard this before, and I'm sure you're as
tired of it as I am.
evile: One of our people just decided to take a cruise..did not ask
for the time off, she just informed my boss she was going and did.
    Unbelievable.
evile: boss lady has been scrambling around all day distributing this
woman's workload among the rest of us.
    evile: un. fucking. believable.
SkyeDS: this is not a firing offense?
evile: granted, we are pretty caught up, but still...I just can't
believe what a fuckin' doormat my boss is, and yet she still persists
in her snarky little comments to me and little bitchy emails about
    tiny mistakes, and such.
evile: I would think it's a terminable offense. Basically, I think
this woman called from teh road "Oh, by the way, I'm taking a cruise
    this week, bye!"
evile: If this were my employee, she would come back to her things in
a box and her exit paperwork sitting on her desk.
evile: But my boss is a worm, apparently. And I have too much
fucking character/ethics/morals to take advantage of this fact.
    dammit.
SkyeDS: gag at the gnat and swallow the camel
    evile: something like that, yeah.
SkyeDS: I personally would use that info in my mind to remind myself
to ignore her gagging at whatever gnats of mine she perceives
    evile: *nod*
evile: it's just so frustrating. If I didn't give a shit about my
work product, she'd have far less to snipe at me about .
evile: the fact that I do 20% of the work, means I make about 15% of
the mistakes, so I get the most shit.
    SkyeDS: <hugs>
    evile: thanks.
evile: I've more or less accepted that Im going nowhere in this
agency, and that all this is for is for the paycheck that I use to
fund my real life...just frustrating when I have to put my real life
on hold to waste a bunch of time here.
evile: oh well. I have things to look forward to....I guess that's
    the important part.
evile: Tomorrow is new moon, no wonder I'm so low-energy & ick.
evile: do you read the austin voyagers yahoo group?

SkyeDS: I am subscribed to it
SkyeDS: I read it when you or someone else mentions there is
    something interesting
evile: there was a recent post about looking for 'ladies of the
camarilla' and membership cards & such. I guess this is not VTM
    Camarilla he's talking about.
    SkyeDS: no clue
SkyeDS: there is an official WW organization called the Camarilla, I
don't know if they carry cards or not
evile: me, neither. I was looking at the model requirements and
    going "membership card???"
evile: I can't look at any of the photo links the poster gave,
because I'm at work & heaven forbid we see a little boobie at work.
evile: I will look from home, I guess & see what that's all about.
evile: Oh, cool. sineater sent me a link to the news story about the SCA.
    SkyeDS: where?
evile: he posted it in your LJ, as a reply to a comment I posted in
    your LJ.
SkyeDS: I couldn't find them online when I went looking, oh well
evile: it happens. apparently there are ways to make sure that your
website gets picked up by search engines, and perhaps the paper
    hasn't used them
SkyeDS: dinks didn't mention equestrians anyway <sigh>
    evile: oh well.
    SkyeDS: yawn
    evile: me too.
evile: I'm gone in like 15 min, though.
evile: Dinner with Sweetie, Jaime, Big James, and whoever, and then I
will go get all my TRF camo peasant acoutrements.
SkyeDS: I didn't get here till 11, so not leaving till 7
    evile: oh, yucko. poor you.
SkyeDS: what I get for not coming in till 11 (which is SOP on
    Tuesdays)
evile: *nod* you gotta pay for your fun.
SkyeDS: I take M to class on Mondays and Tuesdays. So Monday I'm
here at 12:30 and Tuesday I'm here at 11.
    evile: *nod*
evile: It's nice that you get to flex your schedule like that. All
business studies say that's the way to go. The state may get around
to it eventually, when I"m retiring.
SkyeDS: I still dream about telecommuting from time to time
evile: I dont' think I'd have the discipline.
evile: Plus, these days, I don't LIKE being at home. it's dirty and
icky and needs lots of work.
evile: well, time to blast off.

    Battle royale

HARD DAY: Kenneth McClain wipes the sweat from his brow after a
fight. The participants practice weekly and attend many events that
include fighting as well as more scholarly pursuits in the arts and
    sciences. Photo by Jeremy Weber.
    By Heather Allee

Swords, armor, mead and more can be found among the members of the
    Society for Creative Anachronism.

The international group focuses on recreating and reenacting life in
Western civilization before 1600 A.D., concentrating on the Western
    European High Middle Ages.

The local groups gather weekly for meetings to discuss the happenings
within the kingdom, which includes all of Texas and Oklahoma, as well
as what's going on in the smaller geographical areas, called baronies
    and shires.

One group, the Incipient Shire of Tir Medoin, is made up of people
from this area and meets in Taylor the last Monday of the month to
spread their passion for all things medieval. There are about 30
people that are a part of the shire.

"This is a lot of fun. We really, really enjoy this," said Jeffrey
Fox of Taylor, whose persona name in the organization is Geoffrey
Tailor. "There's really a lot for people to get involved with. The
hanging out, the fellowship is just a lot of fun."

The group meets in Rockdale every Monday except the last. Following
that is fighter practice, a time for valiant knights to come together
and battle one another with swords.

    Well, not quite.

The swords the knights of the SCA realm use are made of rattan staffs
wrapped with strapping tape, then duct tape. A guard or crosspiece is
attached to the end of the sword that the knight will grip.

Armor is a little more complex. Many knights construct their own
armor from metal, leather and other materials. It is made to closely
resemble armor from the SCA "period" and can be quite heavy.

The heavy armor and non-metal swords are used to reduce injury, but
most seasoned SCA members can tell you that getting hit by a sword
    isn't a painless experience.

For those who aren't as interested in the fighting aspect of the
period, there are other things SCA members do in their recreations,
including making costumes, art and mead. These are all part of the
arts and sciences division of SCA.

While all of this creates beautiful clothing, paintings and good
drink, those who make it have another purpose: events.

At least one SCA event is held every weekend all over the country and
around the world, according to the SCA Web site. Most groups hold one
or two events a year, but members attend many more. Fighting events
and competitions among artisans are common.

This weekend, the Shire of Trelac in San Angelo hosted the Crown
Tournament, a competition in which the heirs to the throne of the
kingdom of Ansteorra are decided in combat.

The king and queen of the kingdom are also decided in this way and
they remain crowned for a year, at which time there is another
tournament to decide the royalty for the realm for the next year.

"Even the government of the local groups and of the kingdom is done
in a very real fashion," Fox said.

There are three special groups within SCA called peerages.

The first is Chivalry which is made up of the knights and their
squires. Those named as knights are prime examples of the honor and
fighting prowess of those in the chivalry.

The second is the Order of the Laurel, containing the masters of the
arts and sciences. These craftsmen and artists are recognized for
their research in medieval crafts and their willingness to teach
    those crafts to others.

The final peerage are those in the Order of the Pelican, those that
give the most of themselves to others in their kingdom. The pelican
was thought to be the most self-sacrificing of birds in the middle
ages because it was believed they would pierce their own breast to
feed their young in times of little food.

Memberships in the SCA range from $20-$35 and there are discounts for
families. For more information, see the SCA Web site at www.sca.org
or the kingdom Web site at www.ansteorra.com

gev: howdy. gev@lj here. jsut had to add you, since you have ICQ,
    unlike most people. :)
gev: User 4500593/gev has requested your authorization to add you to
    his/her contact list
evile: Request for authorization was sent to 4500593/gev
    "hey.,"
gev: User 4500593/gev has accepted your request to add him/her to
    your Contact List.
evile: yeah, ICQ to go is the thing that does not crash my work
computer, so that's what I use.
evile: You are a friend of several of my friends, on LJ, I believe?
gev: mmm.. just elphie, mouser, and onyxlynxx, though I've only met onyxlynxxx
that I know of. oh, and squeakbaby, but she never friended me back,
even though I've known her for.. oh.. a decade or so. :)
evile: she's a little flighty at times.
gev: but I loved your idea of a complete Mountain Dew meal. :)
evile: ew. you *must* be an IT geek.
gev: heheh... somewhat. I'm pretty geeky, but...
gev: well, I liked the idea. but follow-through is a bitch.
evile: I just don't like Mountain Dew enough to go to all that
trouble. As fascinating as the idea may be.
    gev: /me grins.
gev: I rarely drink Dew either, so...
gev: though I did get a 12pak of the Pitch Black. blah.
gev: I *do* need to get some 7Up Plus though.
evile: yeah. I think someone put it best when they said "it
    tastes....Purple."
    gev: yeah
evile: I dont' think I've seen 7 up plus yet.
gev: it's "berry flavored" and has added vitamins and stuff.
    evile: mm. vitamins.
gev: /me googles it for better details.
gev: ah, calcium & vitamin C
    evile: yum!
    gev: and still caffein free!
gev: geeze.. apparently it's been in stores since late August, with a
$50million marketing push afterwards. I didn't see anythign about it
until a commercial like two weeks ago.
evile: That would be Seven up plus PLUS that has the caffeine.
gev: but hey, 7Up is having a contest giving a way a flight on Space
    Ship One, so doubleplusgood!
evile: Oh, wow. That would be fun.
gev: fun, understatement of the universe. :)
gev: I was discussing that with a friendthe other day and they were
like "well, if there was some place to GO", and I kinda looked at
them and said "oh, how about the ISS?"
evile: reading about the first commercially available air flights,
they weren't the most comfortable things in the world, and the
stewardesses were actually nurses in case you passed out or got an
    embolism or whatever.
gev: I'd be happy to just be strapped into the thing and flown into
    orbit and back.
evile: as long as there are big windows, yeah.
gev: heh, onyxlynxx says you should come to silver... er, fnordchat. can
you telnet or ssh from work?
    evile: um...I have NO idea.
gev: hmm.. waht sort of system are you on, Windows?
    evile: yeah.
gev: well, first, are you even interested at this point? :)
gev: hmm.. I guess I'll let onyxlynxx walk you through it. :)
evile: sure, but not today. I leave work in, like, 15 min, so
probably not enough time to get it done.
    gev: aaah, ok. :)
evile: I'm a former MUSH-aholic, so this might be dangerous for me...
gev: heheh... well, fnordchat is no game, just chat. :)
evile: the MUSH had a game, but I didn't play, just chatted.
gev: oh cool.. :) So, onyxlynxx says you're cool, even cooler than her.
which I find difficult to believe, but utterly fascinating if true.
evile: Not cooler than onyxlynxx. But Ok.
gev: well, I'll let you guys fight that one out. :)
    evile: heh.
    gev: "no! SHE's cooler!"
    evile: *laff*
gev: I think I shall be-friend you on lj too, m;kay?
    evile: Ok :)
gev: what is/are your favorite color[s]?
evile: (performance anxiety--OMG, now I have to post COOl stuff...oh
    crap!)
    gev: pshaw!
    evile: cobalt blue.
gev: hmm.. lj doesn't have cobalt... how about bright blue? :)
    evile: OK.
    gev: yay added. :)
gev: /me adds AIM & YIM addresses too...
evile: yahoo crashes my computer. and I don't think AIM 'lite' works
    gev: even at home?
evile: Oh, I don't know. I am rarely online at home. I have this
silly thing called a life when I'm not at work, you see...
    evile: :P
gev: oh you so silly. :)
evile: I will have to try it from home sometime.
gev: I recommend Trillian as an all-in-one IM client.
gev: but, tis' time for you to go home, so go home. :) and drive
    safe., :)
evile: My machine at home is very old & cranky, has no memory & won't
accept Trillian as its personal savior.
evile: Yup, you're right. time to go. See ya later! :) Nice to meet
    you!
    gev: awww shucks. :(
gev: take care... nice meeting you too. :)
    evile: hee!

The day ended rather nicely with quick ICQ from onyxlynxx, and a longer
one with her friend Gev. Apparently I should be on silverchat.

Got Marca's Ferret Tarot in the mail today, also my bat dichroic
glass earrings & dichroic martini pendant, also my silver bracelets
from aliyas closet, along with a very pretty, but cheap, sparkly ring
which broke as I was taking it off.

I also got a CD rom from Cirque du Soleil which I can't install or
use because I don't have enough memory. FOO!!! Varekai will be in
Austin in March, 2005. too cool!

Now I just ordered from Black Phoenix Alchemy, samples of 6 of their
    dark,evil, freaky gothic fragrances:

BLOOD AMBER -- Slivers of warm, pulsating blood forever crystallized
    in golden amber resin.

BLOOD KISS -- Lush, creamy vanilla and the honey of the sweetest kiss
smeared with the vital throb of husky clove, swollen red cherries,
but darkened with the vampiric sensuality
of vetiver, soporific poppy and blood red wine, and a skin-light
    pulse of feral musk.

LEX TALIONIS -- The law of retaliation and perfect reciprocity: an
eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, an arm for an arm, a life for a
life. The essence of blunt justice: dark myrrh, vetiver, cardamom,
violet, black pepper, sage, cedarwood and black patchouli with a
clarion note of sharp white grapefruit.

HELL'S BELLE -- Sweet, smoky and sensually wicked. A thick, steamy
scent, truly sinister in its voluptuous sexuality. The perfume of a
demon's favored consort, or of the devil herself. Oleander with
wet, sweet mandarin, lush magnolia, a rush of deep musk and a touch
    of spice.

MATA HARI-- A renowned exotic dancer and courtesan, possessed of
aristocratic elegance, matchless charm, an iron will and a streak of
fearlessness. The actual events of her life have met with much
speculation, and to this day it is unclear whether or not she was
truly a German spy. Despite shaky evidence of her guilt, she was
tried for espionage by a closed court-martial and was executed by a
French firing squad in 1917. Her scent is striking and bold with a
delicate yet dark undertone: five roses with soft jasmine, warmed by
vanilla, fig, tonka bean and mahogany, spiced with a drop of coffee
    bean.

PERVERSION -- The perfect scent to wear to your next bondage ball,
dungeon adventure or sojourn to your favorite pleasure dome. Smoky
rum and black tobacco with a whisper of steamy leather with a splash
of crystalline chardonnay, layered over a sensual, sweet, and
    deceptively magnetic base of tonka.
