Saturday a.m. I woke up having been dreaming about Grandma B. I guess
not about her, but about all of her stuff. I don't know if she was
dead or what, but my dad/pace/somebody? was going thru her warehouse
of junk, getting all excited about pricing & selling some worthless
crap, while I wandered around and found a whole slew of Fiestaware
that was worth a fortune. So...no idea what that was all about.
Spring Equinox, possibly a prophetic dream or a very clear message
    from Spirit re: junk-hoarding.

Jeanne & Mark were great guests, they mostly made their own fun, so
it was very nice not to feel obligated to hang around and entertain
them. We mostly went to dinner while they were visiting & then they'd
go out to the clubs after that.

Thurs- fajita nite at Flores' (stale greasy chips & rugrats screaming
    and running everywhere, of course.)
Fri - The Chicken from El Regio, J&M needed to leave for SXSW stuff
    early
    Sat - Salt Lick
Sun - Dim Sum at Tien Hong

Sat, I worked til 10am, came home & made breakfast tacos, then went
to Natural Magic & met Sunshine/Cairun there. We went to Pease Park &
he fought with the padded swords & had fun. Chatted with Kim/Silvana,
she's apparently back in Austin to protect BD from Alex the pervert
being Chancellor or whatever office he just won. Then Sweetie called &
said they were going to Salt Lick. I checked to see if I should take
Sunshine home or bring him with, 'take him home' was Sweetie's choice, so
I ran him up to g'town & then we all went to the salt lick for
dinner. Sweetie went with them Saturday night. I'd been up since the
crack for OT at work, so I knew I'd poop out if I tried to stay up
    late.

We ran the roads with Jeanne & Mark on Sun, Waterloo records, TX
history museum, Secret Window at the Gateway, and then came home and
watched all our normal Sunday TV & went to bed.

They leave today at 1. It was a nice visit :)

evile: Hi :) How was your weekend?
SkyeDS: yesterday afternoon was lovely. I rode around my property,
including the acre or so that is across the creek. How did the
    entertaining go?
evile: Very nice. Jeanne & Mark were very low-maintenance guests. I
even got to sneak off for a while on Saturday & do stuff I wanted to
    do :)
    SkyeDS: awesome :)
SkyeDS: I have court date on Thursday morning because PD decided to
give me a ticket for something that isn't illegal
evile: yuck! When did this happen??
SkyeDS: and then Thursday afternoon the Chamber of Commerce and the
paper are doing a ribbon cutting at the house :)
    SkyeDS: last July.
evile: wow...suck (about the ticket). Good about the ribbon cutting.
SkyeDS: and then Friday right after lunch, we have a SOAH hearing
that I get to go to, but it means I have to go to lunch w/ Hugh & the
    client.
SkyeDS: but I"m excited about it.
    evile: That sounds cool.
SkyeDS: met my neighbor across the creek, and I like him alot. I
invited him to fish on my pond.
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: speaking of guests, have you had [brother A] & Co's company much
    lately?
evile: Nope. He is pretty much moved to San Antonio. I think they
might have come up Friday night & stayed at L & B's but I
haven't talked to [aunt L] recently, so I don't know.
SkyeDS: Tanglewood nursery has already budded wisterias for $10, 8
foot tall redbuds for $25 and 5 gal MLs for $20 (and they're closer
    than red barn)
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: and they're having a sale first weekend of April, which is
when Karen wants to take me shopping
    evile: That will be fun!
SkyeDS: what did you slip off to do Saturday?
evile: Went to Natural Magic's party & Barad-Duin for a bit with
    Sunshine.
SkyeDS: sounds like potential for fun, weather permitting
SkyeDS: (the weather is not always the same in Austin as it is at
home, so I don't know what your weather was like here)
evile: It was really nice. Muggy, but not that bad.
SkyeDS: anything or anyone interesting at BD?
evile: Met up with some other friends at NM, which was nice. There is
a big garage sale on the 3rd, which I'd love to do, but it's
    Spamarama that day. Oh well.
evile: Kim is back in town, apparently for good.
evile: She is apparently going to try and do damage control on Alex's
    term in office.
SkyeDS: Kit (Vallendemir) said she wanted to (when I was at
    Shadowmist last)
    SkyeDS: lol
evile: And she's with Kit now, romatically, I suppose.
    SkyeDS: Kim???
    SkyeDS: Kim Green?
SkyeDS: he was "semi dating" Kim Bush
    evile: Yup. Kinda unbelievable.
SkyeDS: I can't see Kim Bush (from SA) willing to share with Kim
    Green (Terwin's now ex?)
evile: I didn't know he was dating anyone else, or whatever. But Kim
said she and Kit are an item, and everyone else could see it coming
    but she never did.
SkyeDS: /me arches an eyebrow well past her hairline
evile: the good news is, with all that NRE going on and another
person's romantic life to meddle in, Kim will probably be out of your
business for a while, at least.
SkyeDS: I told you about Kim Bush's treatment of Kit at Denny's right?
    evile: I don't think so.
SkyeDS: she sat in his lap with his arms around her all night
SkyeDS: then as I was leaving Denny's around 2:30 in the am to come
    home
    evile: She is a kid.
SkyeDS: she literally hissed at me like a cat
    SkyeDS: no shit
    SkyeDS: hissed at me
    SkyeDS: declared "mine"
SkyeDS: twisted his arm around his back
SkyeDS: and pulled him back into Denny's by his hair.
evile: This is "princess sharheena' or whoever from Live Oak, right?
    SkyeDS: right
SkyeDS: Shaheena = Kim Bush....Sylvana = Kim Graves.
evile: She was fairly rude to me when I was there with Rio, Mike &
Jaden. I kinda blew it off as the fact that she's like 17.
    SkyeDS: err not Graves, Green.
SkyeDS: I haven't been real motivated to do anything HFS lately
evile: Plus, if she was doing it 'in character' it might have been
just part of her queenie act, so I should not be offended OOC by her
    rudeness IC.
SkyeDS: although as I keep telling the officers, we need to start
getting prepared for Eeyore's, like right now
SkyeDS: if you weren't IC she shouldn't have been IC and that would
    be no excuse
evile: Yup. That's coming up soon, too.
evile: *shrug* I see the pudgy little bitch maybe twice a year. She
    ain't worth my time/energy/breaking a nail.
evile: Kit could do better than either of those choices, IMHO. He's
    the pretty kilty boy, right?
SkyeDS: I told Kathleen that BD would make unbelievable amounts of
money if we got permission to sell rides and pictures. (within my 28
    foot portable round pen)
SkyeDS: she then refered me to Andy
SkyeDS: who all but blows me off every time I ask when they're having
planning meetings (the Eeyore's people) so I can go with him to get
    permission
    evile: ecch.
SkyeDS: and I get the feeling he won't even ask if I don't go with
    evile: probably.
SkyeDS: and truthfully, some weekend in April the SCA is doing a kids
specific event in Lexington, and we are more than welcome, nay
    invited, to be there.
SkyeDS: and I'm getting kind of used to being appreciated.
    evile: nice.
SkyeDS: Kim Green (Sylvana) and Kim Bush (Shaheena) have always been
    thicker than white on rice
SkyeDS: and they are both possessive and insecure women
    SkyeDS: this should be interesting.
    evile: *shrug*
evile: Kim isn't playing 'Sylvana' anymore, she has a new character.
she said something about how "Sylvana's still with Terwin"...
SkyeDS: some kids broke into Kelly's house and took all their cds,
video games, DDR and video tapes (and they had HUGE collections of
    all)
    evile: sucks!!
SkyeDS: it's just easier to keep the two Kims separate in discussion
    if you use character names.
evile: You're much nicer than I am.
    SkyeDS: how do you figure
evile: I could think of lots of ways to keep them separate in
discussion that are not at all nice.
    SkyeDS: LOL
SkyeDS: I want to think I am a nice person but I keep being told that
I have a nasty temper and am not a nice person
SkyeDS: and since I know many people with worse tempers than me, I
don't know what I'm being judged relative to.
evile: Some people seem to take offense at any behavior that
differentiates a woman from a piece of furniture.
evile: Jeanne & Mark are TTC so I had to keep a very serious rein on
my CF/kid-hating tongue this past week. It was harder than I thought.
SkyeDS: I'm sorry, TTC? something something children?
SkyeDS: (I get the context but I'm just curious)
evile: I guess I just never realized how many rotten brats and
clueless breeders there are in the run of daily life & how
judgemental I am of htem. TTC=Trying To Conceive.
    SkyeDS: ah
SkyeDS: sineater is good with children
SkyeDS: but he says he doesn't like children
SkyeDS: but everyone else also notices that he's good with children
    (despite what he says)
SkyeDS: although technically you don't have to like something to be
good at it (I hate litigation but I'm damned good at it)
evile: I am also good with kids. And if they are at all intelligent,
curious, and obedient to authority, I like them just fine. I just
dont' want to ruin my body, my home, my finances, and my life with
one of my own. If that makes me a child-hater, so be it.
SkyeDS: the people that notice that he's good with kids, have good
kids, and it isn't hard to like them or be good around them.
evile: And people just don't fucking get it and pester you to death
when you say "I like kids, I just dont' want any of my own'...it's
like some endless loop starts playng in their heads "if you like
them, you should have one" bla bla bla.
SkyeDS: preaching to the choir, sister
evile: So I have to short circuit the baby-rabies blather by saying I
    HATE THEM
SkyeDS: I'm surprised that since J[sineater's mom] seems to feel like she might
be about to die, that she isn't after me to be a brood mare like
    yesterday.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: she probably is after sineater and he has better sense than to
    say boo to me.
SkyeDS: of course she hasnt' got better sense.
    evile: nope.
SkyeDS: fact still remains that if you give him a choice of (insert
    chore here) or birdsitting
SkyeDS: he'd rather do just about any chore
    SkyeDS: such as:
SkyeDS: do you want to deal with the stupids inside the grocery store
SkyeDS: or sit out here with Arthur
SkyeDS: and almost always he'd rather deal with the stupids in the
    store
SkyeDS: (of course...the store is air conditioned...)
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and when we are eating on the road, I sit outside on patio,
    and he orders.
SkyeDS: I don't understand why anyone would feel the need to be
    so "high pressured sales pitchy"
SkyeDS: I mean, seems to me I would make the observation that you'd
be a good mother if you wanted to be and leave it at that
evile: I like rollercoasters, boats, and horses, but I don't want any
    of them at my house.
SkyeDS: although Karen said many times ad nauseum that I should
board, train and teach for money
SkyeDS: and I finally gave in
SkyeDS: but that's different than ad nauseum you should have a baby.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and Karen is just like that.
SkyeDS: (just about the horse business though, at least so far)
    SkyeDS: she is a character.
SkyeDS: although I love that about her.
evile: If you get stuck boarding a nasty bad tempered horse, you can
always give it back to the owner. If you should happen to have some
ADHD down syndrome, bad-seed mess of an offpsring, you're stuck with
    it for life.
    SkyeDS: good point
SkyeDS: actually something I put in my boarding agmt too.
SkyeDS: what procedure I will follow if you bring me a problem child.
evile: it's good to have a plan in mind.
SkyeDS: I have to. for the protection of my other boarders.
    SkyeDS: besides me of course.
SkyeDS: now -- I have three training rates... per hour, per week and
    per month
SkyeDS: and if someone brings me a problem that will take between a
    week and a month
SkyeDS: obviously I will need to board the horse
SkyeDS: and obviously I know it's a problemchild
SkyeDS: but that's different, if I have permission AND am being paid
    to fix the problem
    evile: right.
SkyeDS: I have no clue how long it will take to get Randy's TB to
    neck and knee rein.
SkyeDS: racehorses never really get taught to steer, just run in
    straight lines and stop.
evile: I guess every animal is different.
SkyeDS: some people would have taken offense to Karen's constant
insistance that I do what I do for money.
SkyeDS: I didn't, but that's just me, but I would if she were
insisting that I be a brood mare.
evile: fine line between meddling & encouraging in some cases.
SkyeDS: Karen is just an emphatic person. About everything.
SkyeDS: nothing lukewarm about her, she's very passionate, and most
    people like that, you either love or hate.;
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and Randy is just a big giant teddybear
evile: those sorts of partnerships are pretty common.
SkyeDS: I told him and Karen that his exwife is going to get a four
foot steel enema from me in addition to whatever damage Karen does to
her, if the circumstance presents itself.
    evile: heh
SkyeDS: women are so funny, most of them, in this "you are an enemy
predator after the same prey" bullshit
SkyeDS: Kim Sr and Kim Jr are both like that.
evile: yup. why I have 0 female friends.
SkyeDS: you doo too, you have lots of female friends
    evile: well,Okay, 3.
SkyeDS: Dee Dee and Rio and J-Law
SkyeDS: Kim 1 and Kim 2 both consider me a threat, for no reason, and
while Karen knows I have an open marriage, she obviously doesn't
    consider me a threat.
SkyeDS: I am happy though if this means that Kim Sr's hooks are out
    of Travis.
SkyeDS: I doubt she will be able to manipulate Kit the same way.
    evile: no tellin'
SkyeDS: Kit gives me the impression of having a strong enough
    backbone.
SkyeDS: although he certainly does get around.
SkyeDS: this makes like the fourth woman in nearly as many months
evile: And this is bad because....?
    SkyeDS: it isn't
SkyeDS: unless you happen to be one of the women, and you happen to
    be jealous, possessive and insecure
SkyeDS: as I know for a fact three of the four are.
evile: Were I gorgeous young & single, I'd be going thru the HFSers
    like bonbons.
evile: with about as much regard for their feelings as if they were
    sugar coated with chocolate....
SkyeDS: the only thing that prevents you from doing so is that you
aren't exactly "single" in your own mind.
evile: When you're pretty you can do whatever you want and most
people will let you get away with it.
SkyeDS: I don't know what standard of pretty one has to be to get
away with murder, although I have noticed the same thing
SkyeDS: however, you could certainly cut a swath if you were of a
    mind to
evile: There may be an element of 'charm' involved as well.
SkyeDS: attractive and sexy aren't entirely defined by looks
evile: *shrug* I am done with my 'collecting pet boys' days. more
trouble than they're worth. I'd rather spend my money on myself.
SkyeDS: lol collections certainly are resource consuming.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: am glad I've whittled mine down some (although I think of
them as family, everyone else calls them the collection or the harem)
SkyeDS: which I think is insulting to them
evile: you call sonar0m 'baby'...which is arguably an unkind name.
evile: I figure as long as the terminology isn't actively offending
those involved, who cares what anybody calls it.
SkyeDS: it is said with affection though and he knows that (I also
asked him before I made it a habit)
SkyeDS: as far as offending them
evile: exactly. whereas if anyone ever called me 'baby' or 'momma'
    I'd probably blow a rod.
SkyeDS: people who use it in less than kind ways tend to do it around
    me
    SkyeDS: and not around them
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: or I imagine sineater certainly if not M too would have set them
    straight
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: Kit made some remark to my friend Uriah (Hino) at SM
SkyeDS: about being added to the harem
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: and Hino laughed and volunteered.
SkyeDS: and Kit obviously was all in fun
SkyeDS: but women tend to use the terms catlike
evile: *shrug* why I only have 3 female friends...
SkyeDS: I belong to this yahoo group called polyfidelity (a subset of
    polyamory)
evile: I'm even finding meow-meows in the poly group, which is fairly
    shocking.
SkyeDS: dedicated to the idea that polys can be faithful
SkyeDS: and someone joins the group and says that successful polyfi
relationships are as much luck as hard work
    SkyeDS: I haven't repied yet
    evile: could be true.
SkyeDS: it aggravates though on some level that anyone would think
any successful relationship had any degree of luck involved.
SkyeDS: I have yet to meet anyone in a successful relationship of any
kind (work, personal, family whatever) that didn't work and work hard
    at it
evile: OTOH, I met Sweetie completely by chance, so that
was 'luck' ...the relationship itself is work. but meeting was luck.
    SkyeDS: I suppose so
SkyeDS: although I personally believe that there isn't any such thing
as chance, no matter how coincidental things seem to us at the time
evile: It's not like I went to PA with my elephant gun and said "i'm
    gonna bag me a man"....
SkyeDS: but I hadn't really considered meeting people to be part of
    the success of a relationship
SkyeDS: I was thinking of the relationship as being something that
you did after deliberation upon meeting someone
    evile: Ok.
SkyeDS: I think p eople who do take the approach of "I'm going to
take my mangun to wherever and bag me a man" set themselves up for
failure, whether they bag one or not.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: from context, I surmise that this person is male, and thinks
that it's easier for women to have poly relationships than for men to.
SkyeDS: and someone from Seattle responded that the Seattle group is
almost all women and has very hard time finding men.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: (you said that someone from austin polys is always wanting
    everyone to move to seattle)
    evile: Terri Avalon.
evile: She actually wants Austin to do everything just like the
    Seattle Poly's do. fuck dat.
SkyeDS: I've heard a lot of comparisons between Ausitn and Seattle
SkyeDS: never having been, I have no clue
SkyeDS: but I would assume we're not twins.
evile: Our Sister City in that state is Portland.
    SkyeDS: emulating success is good
evile: BTW, Did you see, This week's poly dinner is at Tuscany
    Market :) I'm such a little instigator.
    SkyeDS: good for you :)
SkyeDS: I can't instigate for shit
SkyeDS: all I could do would be to go to BD and say, ok, I"m going to
Tuscany for dinner, on my way out.
evile: I just find Terri's adamant insistence on "Austin must be just
like Seattle" to be rather hypocritical, considering that the whole
main thing of Poly is that you dont' have to do things just like
everybody else in order to be happy & fulfilled.
SkyeDS: emulation is not the same as carbon copying
SkyeDS: and carbon copying probably would not be successful
evile: it's just that she keeps bringing it up and everyone else
says "NO" and she will not stop insisting that Seattle is better and
Seattle is right and we should do like they do.
SkyeDS: there are all sorts of traits in all the people I love and
respect and admire, and I can emulate them to the best of my ability,
but I will never be a carbon copy and shouldn't want to be
evile: I imagine that the Austin Poly group may reach some sort of
terminal velocity and split into factions. TerriA's group will do
things like Seattle does, and another bunch will continue to be the
    Austin bunch.
evile: (if Terri keeps being unpleasant & pushing the issue, that is.)
    SkyeDS: /me nods
evile: Nikiyoy is having a party this weekend. I'm kinda tempted to go,
but not overwhelmingly driven to go.
SkyeDS: I haven't even given thought to what I'm doing
SkyeDS: it's going to be predicated I would bet though on when I can
get Wayne to shred my lowlands
SkyeDS: and on doing a controlled burn across the creek
SkyeDS: so that we can finish fencing
SkyeDS: I have a huge old willow tree :)
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: Terri and Karen make me feel to myself like I am lukewarm and
tepid in comparison. Kind of like salt rather than pepper, or Mary
    Poppins ish
evile: *shrugs* You are who you are.
SkyeDS: as if the trash on my side of the creek weren't bad enough,
will have to be hauled away in several truckloads
SkyeDS: we're talking motors and a 14 ft boat size stuff here
    evile: ooh, yuck.
SkyeDS: the trash on the other side of the creek is just as bad,
    although smaller
SkyeDS: and it is grown over my head
SkyeDS: and not safe to do anything on foot because of the 5 foot
    rattlers
evile: wow. That is a lot of work.
SkyeDS: so it will just have to be burned because I can't get a
    tractor in there either
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and I still have to get it rezoned.
evile: That is a hassle. Paperwork/bureaucrazy is slow slow sometimes.
SkyeDS: I went over there on horseback two days running thinking I
would be able to assess the whole thing on horsebacdk where it wasn't
    safe to walk.
SkyeDS: but the girls didn't like it, not even with their trail
training, and I chose t o respect that.
    evile: good.
SkyeDS: they didn't refuse, they were scared.
evile: I'd rather be snakebit myself than have one of my babies bit.
SkyeDS: and if they were honestly scared and not just being spooky as
an excuse to refuse, there had to be good reason.
    evile: right.
SkyeDS: related no d oubt to being swampy and overgrown
SkyeDS: but I think when we get rid of the overgrown, assess the
swampiness, we're going to have something good.
SkyeDS: wild onions down there, smell strong enough some days to make
    you cry
    evile: yup
    evile: brb, potty break

    evile: back.
    SkyeDS: wb
evile: Saw a nice little plot of land for sale on the way to the Salt
Lick. Right next door to the Baptists, though :P
SkyeDS: so you invest in some combination of privacy fence, hedge and
    tree
SkyeDS: that would be down there close to camp ben mccullough
SkyeDS: where they're going to have crw
SkyeDS: on the same weekend as my family reunion
SkyeDS: and they specifically asked me to bring the horses with me
    this year :(
    evile: aww...that sucks.
SkyeDS: now water is an issue on the corridor
SkyeDS: but only on one side of 35
SkyeDS: and I can't ever remember which side it is
SkyeDS: but you would want to research that, but I bet the Salt Lick
people could tell you what the water situation is (well drilling, etc)
evile: I'm sure [aunt L] or [uncle B] would know.
    SkyeDS: probably
SkyeDS: if I were looking for something, reasonably priced land close
to the Salt Lick and Camp Ben McCullough would be attractive
evile: I think they did look at property out that way before they
finally settled on their land near Marble Falls.
SkyeDS: Hays county taxes, not Travis (don't know if that's an
    improvement or not)
evile: It's getting VERY developed along that road.
SkyeDS: and hopefully a church would at least be a good neighbor
    SkyeDS: not noisy, not destructive
SkyeDS: looked at buying 8 - 10 acres in the new Mustang Ridge
subdivision (that's on the other side of 35 from there)
SkyeDS: I know you can move a house, but it would probably be a lot
of trouble to move your house
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: and your house is just too cool to give it up
    evile: Sweetie hates it now.
    SkyeDS: why?
evile: half the backyard falling into the creek & he's just sure the
rest is heading that way any day.
evile: He was pretty vocal about it in front of his sister & BIL.
    Very embarassing.
SkyeDS: so the city did not effectively fix that.
evile: No, the city DID fix it. You've seen it. It's terraced with
giant limestone rocks, metal braces shot back into the bedrock, more
metal, mechanically stabilized earth, and what-have you. It's not
going anywhere. They just put in masonry before it finished settling
and therefore there's a crack between the old terracing and the new.
    Cosmetic.
evile: Sweetie is just a pessimistic PITA. I'm going to end up buying him
out and kicking him out somedday.
SkyeDS: are you ready to be alone temporarily?
SkyeDS: I have never lived alone in my life, sometimes I wonder.
SkyeDS: I have friends living alone.
evile: I've lived alone. Its fine.
evile: And once Sweetie's gone, I will be alone for the rest of my life.
I am never going through this bullshit with anyone else ever again.
SkyeDS: there's no way I could maintain my current standard of living
    without sineater.
SkyeDS: but, I think, if I could, I wouldn't want to anyway.
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: so, how much would it take for you to be completely
    independent of Sweetie?
    evile: Too much.
SkyeDS: (of course I would love to make enough money so that sineater
didn't have to work again and we could spend our time running th
    eranch)
evile: And I do like him and love him, even. Just not when he's
talking shit about MY home in front of his relatives and such.
SkyeDS: your house is way cool
    evile: I think so.
SkyeDS: someone would have to be blind not to be able to judge for
themselves regardless of someone else's opinion that your house is
    way cool
evile: Oh, but it's falling into the creek and there are criminals
    everywhere, bla bla bla.
SkyeDS: "opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and they all
    stink."
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: my place is nice enough on the inside
SkyeDS: it looks like a doublewide on the outside
SkyeDS: nothing I can do about that
SkyeDS: although I think having plants where I can't see the
skirting, and eventually having a deck that runs from the front to
the back (actually side) door will help some
SkyeDS: but it's nice inside, and my land is cool
    SkyeDS: despite the Mullins, etc
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: I prefer to be excited.
SkyeDS: I say this, after spending too much of the weekend being
stressed over things I'm already doing as much about as I can.
    evile: stress sucks.
SkyeDS: Jezebel has the time of her life splashing around in the pond.
    SkyeDS: Mirage thinks she's insane.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: Miss I'm perfectly happy to roll around in mud but you're
insane to splash in the pond and put your feet in it.
    evile: silly.
SkyeDS: looking around the pond, I think at some point the easiest
way to keep the banks clean will be in a canoe
SkyeDS: some of the banks are too steep to do anything bankside.
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: I think I will enjoy the springfed creek when I get the
    overgrown stuff gone.
SkyeDS: I don't want to destroy habitat, but I'm sorry, the snakes
are going to have to go live somewhere else.
evile: yup. It's a lot of work but worth it.
SkyeDS: I won't burn what's growing in the water, but if it's
headhigh on land, it's got to go.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: I saw a duck on the creek
SkyeDS: would be good if we had wild geese, they eat snakes
    evile: Geese are mean!
SkyeDS: I have always been happy about the healthy raptor population
we have, besides even the vultures are beautiful birds to watch
SkyeDS: I don't want to play with the geese, I just want them to eat
    snakes :P
evile: you could probably buy some goslings at the flea market. But
you'd have to feed them, probably, until they were old enough to fend
    for themselves
SkyeDS: Connie has wild geese on her place every now and again. I'll
see what she does if anything to encourage them there
evile: They had chicks and ducks and (I think) goslings at the flea
market this time of year last time we went.
evile: I wanted a duckie. Sweetie said no.
SkyeDS: probably on the grounds of no puppy, no ducky
evile: no, this was when we still had nickie.
    SkyeDS: sineater said no peacocks.
evile: Sineater says I can have another hedgehog if I want it.
evile: Truthfully, I'm just really looking forward to the day we have
no critters to take care of.
SkyeDS: I am in no position to acquire new critters to take care of.
SkyeDS: besides, there are so many breeds of dogs that I love, I
wouldn't know where to start, and I can't buy one of each.
    evile: nope.
SkyeDS: peacocks are very aggressive and very territorial birds, and
I thought they might be an investment in security.
evile: the theory is that 2 dogs are just as easy to care for as 1,
but 3 dogs are actually more work.
    evile: They are loud, though.
SkyeDS: I hadn't heard that. (about dogs)
SkyeDS: I wonder what the difference between 1, 2 and 3 is.
SkyeDS: I have heard that two people live as cheap as one.
evile: 1 would be most needy as far as human's time & energy. 2 could
play together & have fun without a people around. I don't know about
    3.
    SkyeDS: yes.
SkyeDS: dogs are pack predators and horses are prey herds
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: but I know horses don't like to be by themselves
SkyeDS: Mirage is much happier with Jesse around, I think, than she
was by herself, even in a "herd" of other horses that changed from
    time to time at Jim's
SkyeDS: she never bonded to another horse the way she has to Jesse.
    evile: that's a good thing
SkyeDS: although she considered Linda's TBone to be her boyfriend and
would have bonded even closer to him if they had shared a pasture (he
    was a barn horse)
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: and she and Jesse bonded to Merrik instantly, when they
didn't bond to the changing herds at Jim's for eight years or more.
SkyeDS: oh LOOK, Mommy brought us a BOY!
    evile: hee.
SkyeDS: ....enjoy him while it lasts girls, he's a loaner.
SkyeDS: I've heard same logic applied to having bros & sis as opposed
    to being only child
evile: I guess in any situation, some are going to get along & some
aren't, be they dogs, horses, people, or whatever.
SkyeDS: but I remember being an only child for nearly five years
    quite fondly
evile: I d on't remember much of anything before age 9 or so.
SkyeDS: I remember them bringing him home
SkyeDS: they had told me they were going to get Steven Allen
SkyeDS: and when they brought him home, they said, here is your
    brother, Stuart Brian
SkyeDS: so I astutely observed that they brought home the wrong one
and would have to go back.
SkyeDS: an observation I maintain to this day.
evile: heh. Adoption is a very kind & good thing...for most couples.
But to approach it like 'going to the store for milk and cookies' is
    a little...odd.
SkyeDS: Mom had an odd student.
evile: Oh, we changed our mind. We didn't want milk and cookies. We
wanted orange juice and ice cream bars.
SkyeDS: the semester she brought Stuart home, she had been talking
about the adoption all semester long
SkyeDS: so when she brought him home and they had a shower for her
SkyeDS: this student says, gee, Miz Drake (she prefers to be called
Professor), I didn't know you were pregnant!
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: well it came across to my five year old mind like going to
the store and changing their minds
SkyeDS: because they didn't explain to me why the name change
SkyeDS: so to me it was like they went to school, picked up the wrong
    child
evile: hee. I would have thought the same.
SkyeDS: sometimes I do wonder if adoption wasn't like buying a car in
    Mom's mind
SkyeDS: I'm sure she would have traded me in on another model if she
thought that was an option :P
    evile: heh.
    evile: No tellin.
SkyeDS: so two leasing companies now have told me that the banks
    won't do leases on hybrids.
    evile: wierd.
evile: Maybe they're just too new.
SkyeDS: they are also very much in demand
SkyeDS: dealers are selling them faster than they can get them in
    stock
SkyeDS: and there are precious few used ones on the market at all
    evile: I bet.
evile: I don't want one until they've got a better plan for how to
deal with all the heavy metals in the battery.
evile: not poisoning the air so you can then poison the groundwater
doesn't seem like much of an improvement, IMHO.
SkyeDS: my interest in them is the savings in gas.
SkyeDS: I prefer to pay professionals to dispose of things I don't
know what to do with, and that salves my conscience on that score.
    SkyeDS: (tires, oil, etc)
SkyeDS: if I'm going to drive 120 miles a day, the fuel efficiency of
    the hybrid makes it attractive.
evile: I just dont' think there's a program in place (yet) to
recycle the batteries or dispose of the heavy metals properly. Then
again, it's not going to be a problem until they're junked. So that
    may be awhile yet.
SkyeDS: it is a question worth asking them when I sit down to the
table to sign on the dotted line.
    evile: yup
evile: You may end up having to wait a while before there are enough
hybrids for everyone who wants one & such.
SkyeDS: it will be cheaper to wait until I can fix whate'ver's wrong
    with the clutch
SkyeDS: since the truck still has value
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: checked kelley blue book and the thrifty nickel and the
    statesman
evile: trucks do seem to hold value well.
SkyeDS: it's instructive to see that in 2004 no one is in a hurry to
be rid of their 2001 or 2002 hybrid.
    evile: true.
SkyeDS: I don't mind putting money into the Ranger if I get 2/300K
    miles out of it
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: even a used Prius is 15K, and investing 1K in clutch is
    cheaper.
    evile: wow.
SkyeDS: probably be my luck that somewhere in the vicinity of 2006, I
will be having to invest in not one but two new or used vehicles, the
hybrid and the one ton dually at the same time.
evile: maybe...wow. that would be a heck of a thing.
SkyeDS: I've gotten used to only having one payment and full
comp/coll on only one vehicle *sigh*
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: but I'm pretty sure when I get the white truck paid off, it
will be time or past time to acquire newer and bigger, and more gas
    efficient.
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: I want to breed the girls
SkyeDS: they are both as perfect as horses get, and both worth
    preserving lines
SkyeDS: and eventually babies will mean bigger transport, whether
that is timely in terms of paying off the white truck or not
    evile: yeah...
SkyeDS: and, I should invest in breeding the girls before I go off
buying a Friesian, a Gypsy and an Andalusian.
evile: A stud fee from a friesian, gypsy, or andalusian would be less
than the horse itself, I would think. Best of both worlds...pretty
    babies :)
    SkyeDS: if I bought stallions?
SkyeDS: yes, except to make money you have to show them
    SkyeDS: take them to keurings
evile: If you bought stud service/frozen sperm for your girls
SkyeDS: and that takes serious time and money
    SkyeDS: oh
    SkyeDS: right
SkyeDS: sorry, mind was on two tracks and not one
    evile: it happens :)
SkyeDS: although a Friesian breeder won't sell me semen for grade
    horses
SkyeDS: and technically although both of mine are obviously
purebreds, they're technically grade horses because neither are
    registered
evile: oh well. It was just a thought.
SkyeDS: it had crossed my mind (not the semen thing) but buying a
stallion and breeding the girls that way.
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: Friesians are part of the Foundation of Morgans anyway, as
far as the experts can tell
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: they don't know for sure, but they think that the "mutt"
traces back to Friesian, Arab and/or TB, and Narangasett Pacer (where
    the Gait comes from)
SkyeDS: I laughed at someone for asking me if Jesse was Friesian once
SkyeDS: and then that article came out
    SkyeDS: I felt bad.
evile: Oh well, live & learn, I guess.
SkyeDS: well, I laughed at her after she left, I didn't laugh at her
    to her face
SkyeDS: but I felt bad for laughing at all
SkyeDS: she still wasn't very bright
SkyeDS: she bought this pretty but very abused and almost fatally
underweight Arabian that was sold to slaughter
SkyeDS: he couldn't have weighed 400 pounds when he came to the ranch
    evile: oh, poor thing.
SkyeDS: and she brought him up to 600 pounds
SkyeDS: and then decided to start riding him
SkyeDS: and this woman had to weigh in excess of 300 pounds herself
SkyeDS: and was going to not only ride him but jump him
SkyeDS: (he should weigh at least 1000 pounds before he carries a fly)
    evile: how awful.
SkyeDS: not the sharpest tool in the shed, in general.
evile: sucks that an animal has to suffer for it, though.
SkyeDS: when she moved, she went to Alaska
SkyeDS: and took a desert bred horse, underweight, with her
SkyeDS: in the middle of winter.
evile: Hopefully she had the sense to buy food for him once she got
    there...
SkyeDS: not likely that I"ll ever know
    evile: nope.
SkyeDS: stuff like that...and people doing equally stupid stuff to
    their birds...raises the blood pressure
SkyeDS: not to mention dogs, cats, and everything else, kids.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: some people have no business being drunk and in charge of a
    bicycle.
    evile: yup.
evile: I'm here until 5:50 today. Would you be up for a walk at 6? I
could walk over & we could go from there?
evile: I'm checking out Rengeek's Excalibur photos. I like the shirt
    on the
    right.http://rengeek.dyndns.ws/albums/album31/DSCF0316.sized.jpg
SkyeDS: would go to excal with you but no money
    evile: bummer. :(
SkyeDS: some place in round rock wants to interview me for some admin
thing I applied for in December
SkyeDS: I'll call them tomorrow at lunch and see what they're offering
    evile: wow...
SkyeDS: I think it would take a substantial increase in money to make
me want to leave a good thing
SkyeDS: like $3 an hour raise at least.
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: I wouldn't go back to IBM for $20 an hour
    evile: nope.
SkyeDS: (not that particular set of attorneys anyway)
evile: It's a big company. But that's part of the problem, obviously.
    SkyeDS: I like my office
    evile: me too.
SkyeDS: I have a window, a tree, two doors, two desks, one of which
    is a rolltop
    SkyeDS: the bathroom is nearby
    SkyeDS: the kitchen is nearby
    SkyeDS: and I like Hugh.
    evile: yeah. that's very important.
SkyeDS: I will figure the gas savings into the financial equation.
Depending on where in RR they are.
    evile: yeah, this is true.
SkyeDS: should be $15 a week or thereabouts.
SkyeDS: $60 a month isn't worth much though, in the big scheme of
    things far as I'm concerned.
SkyeDS: I would be much more interested in vacation time, sick time
    and health benefits
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: and besides, unless Hugh agrees to let me go I have to give
    30 days written notice anyway
SkyeDS: and i would feel lower than a snake with a belly full of
    buckshot.
SkyeDS: but, I should talk to them, just in case they are willing to
meet all my hurdles, because if nothing else, sineater and I do need
    health insurance.
evile: usually that's one of the interview questions, though. when
can you start, and you explain your agreement with Hugh.
evile: So, I'm gonna make photocopies now. Hasta manyana! *hugs!*
SkyeDS: [Auto Response] I am currently away from the computer.
