evile: howdy. I sent you email about a virus. Turns out I may have
been the one who gave it to you...
SkyeDS: ruh roh. Hope you sent it to sineater too.
evile: I did.
SkyeDS: he da expert
evile: I ran the virus scan on the machine at work, but who knows how
up to date the antivirus software is in this dump?
evile: I don't get it. I never open any attachments from people I
don't know, and even some people I do know, if it looks wierd.
SkyeDS: /me is clueless
evile: me too, apparently.
evile: I just got a reminder that Natural Magic's spring party is
this Saturday. Obviously, I'm not vending it :P
SkyeDS: lol
evile: Works out for the best. We've got OT for half of Saturday, and
I have guests.
evile: Poly dinner was nice last night--not too large of a crowd, got
a nice visit with everyone.
SkyeDS: glad you weren't too tired :)
SkyeDS: the clutch on the black truck went out on me and I coasted 20
miles from Taylor to Manor in neutral.
SkyeDS: so last night was spent at Home Depot and then taking the
black truck home.
evile: OOH, yuck!
SkyeDS: sineater coaxed it into driving so it didn't have to be towed,
which is what I was prepared to do
SkyeDS: but it's temporarily on vacation until I can afford to fix it
evile: I'm glad you're safe, anyway. Sucks to have a car crap out on
you in the midlde of nowhere.
SkyeDS: I coasted into Manor City Hall parked it and called sineater to
the rescue
evile: Not like you need any more expenses, but a cell phone would be
a good thing...
SkyeDS: I know.
SkyeDS: working on that.
SkyeDS: just as soon as the tax problem straightens itself out
SkyeDS: because until it does, the mortgage pymt has gone up more
than 200
evile: yucko.
evile: Sweetie bitches about our mortgage, but that's his own doing. He
steadfastly refuses to even look into refi. This is a man who won't
buy himself new socks or underwear until they absolutely cannot be
worn, and yet he is flushing 100s every month on the mortgage.
SkyeDS: I would refi in a heartbeat if they'd take us
SkyeDS: we have to pay down to 90
SkyeDS: % first
evile: yup. your mortgage is too new to make refi a good deal, anyway.
evile: Lynn gave me an article she got out of the Statesman about a
new gourmet place. I'm trying to work up a party to investigate. I
could go by myself, of course, but it's more fun to go with people.
http://www.tuscanymarketandvineyard.com/
SkyeDS: have heard of
SkyeDS: you would like Bellagio too
SkyeDS: I also want to try Siena
evile: The list just gets longer & longer. Too many places to go, not
enough time/$ to eat at all of them :)
SkyeDS: Bellagio has delectable calamari
evile: I also read about a place in San Marcos called "Rivendell",
it's got a garden/patio area & the menu has all kinds of Tolkein
references. That would make a fun day trip, go swimming in the
springs & then lunch/dinner at Rivendells
SkyeDS: nods
evile: I am always very cautious about calamari. The good stuff is
wonderful. The bad stuff is unbearable.
SkyeDS: have never had better calamari anywhere
evile: And it's usually pretty pricey. So it irks me to pay $10 for
fried rubber bands.
SkyeDS: my problem is that I have to eat it all by myself
SkyeDS: sineater wont' eat it
SkyeDS: so I never have room for anything else afterward
evile: yeah.
evile: I don't mind going someplace just for appetizers or dessert,
but some people think that's wierd.
SkyeDS: in college we used to go one place for appetizers, one place
for meal and third place for dessert
SkyeDS: if we couldn't make up our minds about what single mood we
were in
evile: yeah. I've done that, too.
evile: These days eating is far more utilitarian than it used to be.
*sigh*
SkyeDS: we also used to go out in a group of three or so
SkyeDS: order like five appetizers and one meal
SkyeDS: and split it all between us
evile: That sounds fun
SkyeDS: I don't see what's strange about going out just for one thing
evile: *shrug* me neither.
SkyeDS: I'm hungry when I'm hungry, for what I'im hungry for.
evile: yup
SkyeDS: course, don't always know what I'm hungry for <chagrin>
SkyeDS: I think I might walk to the Secretary of State today
evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: 11th/San Jac.
evile: I don't know the names or locations of any state building but
mine and the capitol. That's' some pretty amazing ignorance
considering I used to temp here when I was 16, 17, and 22, and I've
been here this time for something like 6 years.
SkyeDS: if you don't need to know why would you
evile: true. Tourists are always pestering for directions and i never
have a clue.
SkyeDS: I only know vaguely what's on which side of Congress but not
in what order
evile: Depends on what it is. I know some stuff
SkyeDS: I need to find another good dimsum since mine closed down
evile: Tien Hong is good, but they only do it on weekends. Or maybe
only Sundays. We go sometimes.
SkyeDS: Pao's has one too
SkyeDS: but it doesn't serve the same thing :(
SkyeDS: I liked steamed shrimp and cilantro bonnets
SkyeDS: taro root dumplings
SkyeDS: bbq pork (steamed and in buns)
SkyeDS: and the buns with the custard in them
evile: The No Kidding crowd is going to T&S for 'restaurant
explorers' this weekend sometime. Supposedly theyve got dimsum.
SkyeDS: what's T&S?
SkyeDS: seems like I hear Rob Balon talk about them on the radio
SkyeDS: it's the place where the other Chinese chefs like to go?
evile: it's just called T&S. Maybe T&S Restaurant or T&S Seafood?
It's on North Lamar
SkyeDS: wonder if it's short for Terry & S-something Seafood, there's
some on the east side too
evile: http://ank.kloepfer.org/calexpand.php?
eventid=56&year=2004&month=3
evile: This is the one the NK crowd is going to. I went once with Sweetie
& Big James but I wasn't very impressed. Then again, it was later in
the day & they were shutting down the dim sum service.
SkyeDS: spice cake is good too
SkyeDS: but mostly I like steamed stuff
evile: me too
SkyeDS: shrimp anyway I can get it, shumai, but especially shrimp and
cilantro
evile: yeah. I like cilantro again, finally.
SkyeDS: did you burn out on it?
SkyeDS: /me cannot imagine such a thing
evile: I worked at a taco bell when I was 19, one of my jobs was
cutting up cilantro, etc. for pico. I didn't like cilantro again
until I was 24 or so.
SkyeDS: I thought Stuart would burn out on pizza working in a pizza
place but he ate it several days a week every week
evile: no tellin' with people...
evile: some just burn out easier/faster than others.
evile: When I lived in my apt and worked at bookstop, I'd make a
casserole and eat it for lunch & dinner every day until it was gone.
Sweetie can't deal with stuff like that.
evile: A book I read recently had one of the causes of obesity as the
variety of food we have to choose from. The theory is that if we ate
the same things we'd eventually eat only for nutrition and satiety
not for the experience of eating something new. It's a good theory,
but sounds utterly BORING in practice
SkyeDS: no thank you
SkyeDS: I enjoy pleasure in eating
SkyeDS: as much as the Zone author says, food is a drug, you have to
treat it that way
SkyeDS: fine, it's a drug I get pleasure out of, and I will learn
moderation and a happy balance
evile: yup.
evile: I guess that is what the OA bunch tries to do. I might agree
with the priniciples, but I just didn't mesh with the people at all.
evile: My spare time is just too rare & valuable to spend with ugly
whining losers.
evile: That is probably mean to say...but that's how I feel.
SkyeDS: it was more helpful to me when we ate dinner once a week and
you were carb conscious for my sake
SkyeDS: than it would to meet with a group of people I don't know
SkyeDS: but, I guess I wouldn't know if I'd make friends or not
SkyeDS: I love Connie and Wayne dearly
SkyeDS: but I have this block against these people who live next to
my commercial lot
SkyeDS: I don't trust them around t he horses and I don't know why,
I"ve never met them
SkyeDS: I ought to meet them
SkyeDS: and ought not to assume I won't like them
evile: definitely. But...there is a lot to be said for gut feelings
on stuff like that.
evile: And, really, even if you can't trust a person completely,
there are still things they may be useful for.
SkyeDS: they let their trash blow all over my land, so t here is that
evile: yuck!
SkyeDS: and play their music too loud
SkyeDS: but hopefully I will be able to work with them, or around
them, or whatever
SkyeDS: I don't need a two front war
evile: Well, that's two strikes. But, yeah. They could make useful
allies against the other neighbor, if nothing else
SkyeDS: I dont' know that they'll care about Mullins because they are
so far away from him, and he doesn't border them
SkyeDS: but hopefully they won't be as bad
evile: I don't see how they could be...
SkyeDS: long as they leave the horses alone. that's all I ask.
SkyeDS: I know they have kids, I've seen them out watching us ride.
evile: The kids migh be easier to deal with than the adults.
SkyeDS: and that's fine, but the kids need to leave the horses
alone. other than petting which doesn't bother me (through the fence
anyway)
SkyeDS: I will have to introduce myself anyway, because eventually I
will build a fence over there and it will in all likelihood be
electric.
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: explain too that I am in business as a ranch and that
eventually I might have people staying overnight on that patch of land
SkyeDS: I remember being slightly nervous when they put in the RV
park behind the trailer park, because I thought it would draw
undesirable dangerous types
SkyeDS: (before I knew they were charging the moon to stay there)
evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: the issues that I thought would arise with Fandy's little
demons never arose
evile: I'm glad.
SkyeDS: due in part I'm sure to Fandy's phobic terror of the horses.
evile: Well, that's sad, but helpful.
SkyeDS: what i figured would happen is that the more she got
hysterical with the kids about staying away from the horses, the
sweeter the taste of the forbidden fruit.
SkyeDS: but that's all past and this is a new situation, which
hopefully won't turn into one either
evile: depends on the kid, I guess.
SkyeDS: matter of fact I might just ride over there.
SkyeDS: although I don't look forward to crossing the creek until the
lowland gets shredded.
SkyeDS: I know, I'll drive the horses over there in the trailer, and
tack and mount there, and ride the property line
evile: at least your horses don't freak over mud like some I've
experienced...
SkyeDS: lol Mirage doesn't like it but she doesn't freak
SkyeDS: she's more than happy to roll her entire body in it, but it's
completely unreasonable to ask her to put her feet in it.
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: and Jesse just loves mud and water.
evile: My aunt C's quarterhorse Solomon decided to toss me into a
blackberry bush over the issue.
SkyeDS: I had a hideous nightmare about the horses and Arthur last
night
SkyeDS: I'm sure it's a warning, I just can't figure out what I'm
supposed to be warned about.
SkyeDS: sineater is better at dream interp than me.
evile: Or you could just be worried & expresing that in a dream.
SkyeDS: OW, blackberry bushes have thorns :(
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: I got tossed into a mesquite tree.
SkyeDS: bad thorns, inches long
evile: yow. Mesquite thorns are nasssty.
SkyeDS: but it wasn't just the mud that was the issue
evile: *nods*
SkyeDS: it was the killer palomino trying to attack her yet again,
while she was trying to negotiate between barbed wire, mud, mesquite
tree and cottonmouth laden swampy area.
evile: gah.
SkyeDS: after I asked Chevelle to please let me ride behind to keep
Fandango well in Mirage's sight and away from her back
SkyeDS: she rides Fandango right through this swamp that I know has
snakes in it
evile: wow.
SkyeDS: so I'm not going to make Mirage go through that and I'm
letting her pick her own way
SkyeDS: and in the meanwhile, Chevelle decides to ride back and forth
beside us through the swamp
evile: I'm sure she thought she was being helpful.
SkyeDS: and sure enough on the third pass she goes after Mirage,
which she has a history of doing
SkyeDS: she wasn't trying to help me, she was having a come to Jesus
meeting with Fandango about the swamp.
evile: oh...
SkyeDS: which she could have had, long after I got through it
evile: exactly.
SkyeDS: besides, she had achieved the other side, so I don't know why
the come to jesus mtg anyway.
evile: I would think that if you were trying to impart a lesson to
your horse it would be best not to have any others around distracting
it, anywya.,
SkyeDS: the reason Fandango is a bad horse is because Chevelle is
clueless
evile: sad.
SkyeDS: like most horses, she has people problems, not Chevelle
having horse problems
SkyeDS: I'm happy that Karen and Randy put so much thought into their
little girl and her horse
evile: That's very good.
SkyeDS: what I didn't even know until Karen explained it after I
voiced some concern, was that Granpa wanted to buy the horse
SkyeDS: and she didn't let him
SkyeDS: because she wanted me to pick the horse, and me to give the
lessons
SkyeDS: and the horse to be Princess' alone
SkyeDS: and not shared between a bunch of kids
SkyeDS: and chosen and mistaught by Granpa
evile: smart.
SkyeDS: I like Granpa mind you, we just think differently bout horses.
evile: right.
SkyeDS: I wish I had had parents like Karen and Randy, or Kelly
evile: enh. I had Ok parents and I'm still fucked.
SkyeDS: have you ever heard of a functional family? lol
evile: But mine weren't actively malicious or abusive or selective in
regards to which sibling to love, either.
SkyeDS: I don't think mine were that way on purpose. I hope not
anyway.
SkyeDS: in trying to discuss it, they don't seem to realize it.
evile: I figure as soon as you're old enough to realize that your
parents fucked you up, you're old enough to start fixing yourself.
evile: Only a theory, obvously, because I'm still fucked up, even
with the intellectual understanding of WHAT fucked me up and WHY I'm
fucked up.
SkyeDS: yes, which is why some children of abusers of any sort
(drugs, sex, whatever) are exemplary in their own lives
SkyeDS: and some are abusers themselves
evile: true.
SkyeDS: some learn from it, and some don't
evile: A lot of very successful people came from unhappy childhoods.
SkyeDS: when I got into their face about Stuart when Grandpa died, I
said, yes, he's a monster, and yes I hold you responsible
SkyeDS: because you raised him
SkyeDS: and this is your roof
SkyeDS: and what happens under your roof especially with a child you
raised is your problem
SkyeDS: and I got asked, then if he is what we made of him, how do
you explain yourself?
evile: yuck
SkyeDS: and I drew myself up and said with as much quiet calm and
dignity as I could muster, as angry as I was, and said, I am what I
am by the grace of god despite what you tried to do to me
SkyeDS: and sailed out like a spanish galleon under full sail
evile: good for you.
SkyeDS: I was rather proud of that. I have few moments like that.
evile: The difference is that what you learned from your parents
didn't work for you in the Real World, and all the behavior your
brother learned seems to have borne fruit in the real world, too.
SkyeDS: well now he's going to move to NOLA with some roommie and
leave his three children
SkyeDS: whom I've never met and still want to, the oldest is of an
age to be interesting now (just turned 5)
evile: yeah, that is a good age.
SkyeDS: I told Gramma and Mom if they come visit without Stuart I'd
like to meet the kids if it was okay with everyone else
SkyeDS: supervised and all that
SkyeDS: even if they come with Stuart, if we could just go somewhere
without him, supervised.
SkyeDS: I can't see me having time to go w/ Mom & Dad to Georgia.
evile: nope. That's a long haul.
SkyeDS: Hugh is going to Hot Springs on a vacation that will be a
business write off because he'll go to lunch with a client there.
SkyeDS: /me sighs
SkyeDS: little sister shannon and her husband go there
SkyeDS: I want to take the horses and go with them
evile: I'd like to go to another hot spring place. The one in Jemez
was just yummy.
evile: Of course I'm not going anywhere after the 31st. :( Unless Sweetie
drives.
SkyeDS: hot springs aren't a good idea after you've had something
abdominal done anyway, I don't think
evile: The lease co. called today and said "May we arrange pick up of
your lease car within the next 5 business days" and I said "no, you
may NOT because I have PAID for the use of this vehicle through the
END of March."...the nerve.
SkyeDS: although I always want a hot tub when I'm cramping
SkyeDS: guess no one taught them to count right
evile: nope. My last surgery they said I couldn't have hot tub or tub
baths for 2 weeks.
evile: I knew going in that dealing with car people was going to
involve many attempts at screwing me. And some may end up being
successful, unfo, because I won't have the time/knowledge to fight
it.
evile: But goddamn if they're going to take my car a week before the
lease is up.
SkyeDS: I hav ewritten off to two leasing companies about leasing a
used hybrid
SkyeDS: one has already written back and said they don't lease
hybrids at all
SkyeDS: no response from the other leasing company or the four toyota
dealers I wrote
evile: Apple leasing was high priced, but 1) they're still THERE
unlike the fly by night I went with 2) they include oil changes &
washes for no additional cost above the lease price and 3) they
seemed very willing to deal.
SkyeDS: they haven't responded yet other than the auto response
SkyeDS: but I kept in mind what you said about them vs the company
you went with and regretted
evile: Car people are just slimy...I don't think there's a non slimy
one. And the ones who SEEM non-slimy are probably just better at
hiding it.
SkyeDS: you should have seen the last one I dealt with
SkyeDS: it was on Halloween the year i did catwoman
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: he didn't know whether to look at the cleavage or Arthur
SkyeDS: and was completely stupefied by a woman asking about the
details of a towing package and axle ratios
SkyeDS: and my complete disinterest in color, interior, etc
evile: There's a tactic I'd never think of...maybe I'll try it next
time :)
SkyeDS: and then wanting four doors, not for my kids, but for Kelly's.
SkyeDS: (and the Boys of course)
SkyeDS: you and Sweetie could do what TByrd (also Tom) and Tracie did
SkyeDS: it was rather clever but not something E[sineater] and I could pull off
SkyeDS: Tracie wanted a one ton dually to pull the 4 horse slant w/
LQ (drool - kingsize bed, shower, tv, vcr, full kitchen)
evile: I took Sweetie with me test-driving, and also on my initial
contact with the dealership to see if I could turn the car in to them
and have them deal with the rest of the mess with the lease co.
SkyeDS: so they go, and she makes like she wants a little fuel
efficient wagon
SkyeDS: and Tom enlists the aid of the salesperson to "talk" her into
a one ton dually
SkyeDS: and the salesperson threw all sorts of sweet deals into it
before it was all over
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: very "don't throw me into dat dere briar patch pleeze!"
SkyeDS: I don't have time for that
evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: I just called, said I'll be there in x amount of time, I want
to see everything you've got that has the following qualifications
and I'm going to pay cash
SkyeDS: what aggravated me is they made me bring E[sineater] to sign papers
SkyeDS: mouthing off about community property state, as if I don't
know the marriage law better than they do, and E didn't need to be
there for a cash deal, which meant we had to wait three days so he
could take half a day off
SkyeDS: which aggravated both of us actually
evile: hassle.
SkyeDS: got aggravated at the mtg co the other day
SkyeDS: this little priss was sanctimoniously lecturing me on escrow
and taxes
evile: how awful.
SkyeDS: I'm like, ok, it isn't like I haven't been in high dollar
commercial real estate since 92 or anything, or that I might actually
understand it BETTER than you do...
SkyeDS: which I didn't say, but was thinking *real* hard
evile: Even if they did know more than you, talking down to people is
just rude.
SkyeDS: every time I teach horses or birds or whatever, I always
preface with, I dont' know how much you already know
SkyeDS: so if I'm preaching to the choir, please let me know
SkyeDS: I assume that other people might be like me and get
aggravated by the assumption that they're stupid.
SkyeDS: (even if most of them are)
evile: Right. And if you are paying any attention at all to the
person you're talking to, you'll be able to pick the size of the
words to use pretty well.
SkyeDS: that too. I used to be very bad about using big words.
SkyeDS: but I surmise that you might be able to pull off either/or,
what I did, what Tracie/Tom did
evile: From working at Johnson Controls, I learned pretty quick that
the guys may not know the same big words as me, but they're by no
means stupid and really can't be talked to like they're children...
SkyeDS: I went through all the Wheels 101 literature I got from the
credit union
SkyeDS: and then did research online and with consumer reports and
all that
SkyeDS: very time consuming
SkyeDS: I assume Tom and Tracie did some or all of that before they
decided what they wanted
evile: yup
SkyeDS: and then put even more time and effort into the act
SkyeDS: I didn't have time or patience for that
SkyeDS: I wanted what I wanted
SkyeDS: but I got the deal I wanted because I said, I'm paying cash
SkyeDS: this is what I"m willing to give you
SkyeDS: if you dont' want it I'll take it somewheres else
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and, I know the guy thought, fine, she's offering 3K less
than blue, I'll make it back on the trade in. His mistake, I never
said I was going to trade, and I didn't.
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I'm surprised that Sweetie does not consider vehicular
purchases/leases to be his bailwick
SkyeDS: bailiwick (sp)
evile: Absolutely NOT. That was MY car for MY business and it was MY
money. He was just a prop. I knew what I wanted,id' done the
comparisons and I had it down to 3 cars so I took him on the test
drive just to be sure the salesmen wouldn't ignore the little woman
standing all by herself in the parking lot.
SkyeDS: to quote Acadiana, "men are difficult and exotic creatures" --
must be handled with kid gloves accordingly.
SkyeDS: tell me about THAT
SkyeDS: the first time we went carbuying together, for a car for me
evile: I have bad luck going to car parts places by myself & such, so
I figured I'd take a man along just in case the dealerships felt
differently.
SkyeDS: salesman completely ignores me, talks to sineater
SkyeDS: I finally grabbed his tie, hauled him down to my face level
and said what is the name you see on this check?
SkyeDS: you can read right?
SkyeDS: MY checkbook, MY car, you talk to ME
SkyeDS: and he looks bewildered at sineater
SkyeDS: and goes right back to trying to push Mustangs and Probes on
sineater.
evile: Enh. I have no problem playing dumb and letting people talk to
Sweetie when they're being like that. All I wanted was the test drive.
evile: We hat some fun playing good cop/bad cop when we were house
shopping :)
evile: That's kind of the opposite of car shopping. The agents think
the woman is going to have the final say in where the people nest.
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: good cop bad cop is always fun
SkyeDS: sineater and I take turns being bad cop
SkyeDS: he's a very good bad cop
SkyeDS: and I can be when I'm in paralegal mode.
evile: I finally learned the value of playing dumb. It means I get
out of a lot of shit I didn't want to do anyway.
SkyeDS: think you can teach me?
SkyeDS: although I did a good job of playing dumb when I bought sineater
his stereo
evile: I'm not even really sure how I learned it...but it was good to
learn :)
SkyeDS: except that wasn't playing
SkyeDS: I really was dumb
SkyeDS: I think I played dumb when I wasn't successfully, once
SkyeDS: when I bought Mirage
SkyeDS: that was a long time ago
evile: I probably learned it from watching [sister H].
SkyeDS: watching [sister H] play dumb...or be dumb.
evile: She is very quiet, wide-eyed, innocent, asks questions that
are more incisive than they seem & get more info than she asked
for..and somehow ends up on top every time :)
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: my little sister shannon does that
evile: If you think H's stupid, you've got a NASTY very very
NASTY rude awakening in store.
SkyeDS: plays the blonde card very successfully
SkyeDS: with the scorpio sharp mind behind it
SkyeDS: helps to actually look innocent too though
SkyeDS: something H is endowed with that we aren't.
evile: I've been told I have innocent eyes....I don't know what
flavor crack that person was on, however.
SkyeDS: I can pull off innocent for about five minutes
SkyeDS: or until someone gets to know me well enough
SkyeDS: but only once
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: to this day I don't understand why blonde equates to stupid
in the common mythos
SkyeDS: there was one dancer at Yellow Rose
SkyeDS: had a PhD in molecular chemistry or some other hard science
SkyeDS: was a professionally trained jazz and ballet dancer
SkyeDS: absolutely gorgeous blonde
evile: I think it's a leftover from the days when WOMAN=stupid.
SkyeDS: and sharp as an f'ing tack
evile: Either the other haircolors managed to overcome the stigma of
woman=stupid successfully, or else the blondes figured how to use the
steretpye to their advantage :)
evile: I mean, if someone is expecting stupid and ends up with
competent, they are WOWed. But if they're expecting competent and get
competent, well, enh, big whoop.
SkyeDS: I need to a) watch H. in action although I think I can in
my mind's eye see it
SkyeDS: and b) try to remember the how's of what I did when I bought
Mirage
SkyeDS: although I characterize it as my Gomer Pyle impression
evile: heh
SkyeDS: I couldn't find anything wrong with Mirage, and couldn't
figure out why the woman would sell her for half of what she was
worth or less, without there being something worng
SkyeDS: so I looked around, scratched my head, saw the quarterhorses,
listened to her talk about them like they were a business and not her
beloved pets or children
SkyeDS: and then without even thinking aobut it pulled the Gomer Pyle
Texarkana drawl and asked her if she knew the difference tween them
thar Eegyptian Ayrabs and them Europeean Ayrabs.
SkyeDS: and she didn't
SkyeDS: and I wrote her a check on the spot, ahd her deliver Mirage
(for free) and that was that.
evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: Mirage was of course uglier than sin and her own mother
couldn't have loved her, but like the lippizaners, she had white
eyelashes
evile: every critter goes through an ugly phase. Even kittens.
SkyeDS: I think there are very few attractive teenagers of any species
evile: well, I should say 'mammal'. Baby snakes & lizards are cute
because they're just a mini version of the grownup.
SkyeDS: baby birds are not cute
SkyeDS: well there is a point where they become cute
SkyeDS: but not initially
SkyeDS: not when they're bald
SkyeDS: and nippy first time hormonal teenage birds are not cute
evile: nope.
SkyeDS: I wish I could acquire a child like Princess or like one of
Kelly's
SkyeDS: without childbirth of course.
evile: More trouble than they're worth.
evile: More fun to borrow for fun stuff and then return them to the
owners. The parents can then take care of doctors visits, school
supplies, braces, glasses, college, and all that tedious nonsense.
SkyeDS: point
SkyeDS: (several actually)
evile: Yup.
evile: I kinda got that way re: property, too. If I want to play in
the woods, there are a bazillion state parks, Bull Creek, L &
B's property, yours...I can go play and I dont' have to do any of
the work.
SkyeDS: /me looks sheepish
SkyeDS: actually I'm not doing much of the manual labor.
evile: But your'e still laying out the dosh.
evile: Which sucks just as bad if not worse than pulling a few weeds
or digging a couple of holes or whatever.
SkyeDS: I'd still rather do the brainwork than the hard work
evile: manual labor has a more immediate, tangible reward than the
brain stuff.
SkyeDS: there are some forms of hard labor I like to do
SkyeDS: but not yardwork or putting up fences.
evile: I like some yard work.
SkyeDS: I think I will like gardening if I get taught how not to fuck
it up
evile: 95% of everything I plant dies. I still like it.
evile: Red Barn has a sale on TX mtn laurel, BTW. I meant to tell you.
SkyeDS: wonder how long it will be
SkyeDS: /me feels her credit cards itching
evile: I didn't see any dates.
evile: Probably until they run out of stock.
SkyeDS: any idea how late they're open?
evile: nope.
SkyeDS: I'm not in a position to call but I bet sineater is.
evile: I can't find a website just for red barn, but I got addresses
& phone #s for both locations:
Red Barn Nursery North 12881 Pond Springs Austin 78729 512-335-8093
Red Barn Nursery South 620 West Slaughter Austin 78748 512-258-7776
SkyeDS: bet M knows
SkyeDS: he and his mom work there on and off
evile: aha.
SkyeDS: they don't have a website
SkyeDS: stupid for any business not to have an online presence imho
evile: Maybe they figure dirt-diggin gardeners aren't as internet
savvy as other consumers?
SkyeDS: don't know if that's a smart bet
evile: Red Barn is apparently on a lot of agencies' good lists. City
of Austin, various green programs, etc. So maybe they figure they
don't need their own web presence when they've got so much business
coming in from these other websites.
SkyeDS: saw that
SkyeDS: two for 28
SkyeDS: I am going tomorrow
evile: I'm practicing walking the grey area between "practicing
economies in order to get out of debt before age 35" and "spending
enough money on nice things so that I don't just want to shrivel up
and die every day"
SkyeDS: this is an investment
SkyeDS: in the ranch :)
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and my problems are such that 30 isn't going to kill me anyway
evile: yeah.
evile: Sweetie has an interview today. If he gets it, he says he will
look into hiring a lawn service & a cleaning service (!!!)
evile: I think he was rather stunned to discover as we cleaned the
kitchen floor last night that I actually dislike cleaning house as
much as he does !!!
evile: We've been together almost 9 years and it took us this long to
communicate that to one another...absolutely STUNNING. I would never
presume to try poly for that reason alone--communication is not a
strength, apparently.
SkyeDS: :(
evile: But, hey, now that he knows I don't clean house for FUN or
because I LIKE to, perhaps he will try harder to do his share. One
can always hope.
SkyeDS: a lot of people don't talk with each other
SkyeDS: they talk at each other or not at all
evile: yup.
evile: I'm making a list of 'theories of happiness' and one of them
appears both in Cognitive Psychology AND newage BS. So there may be
something to it. Basically it's to focus on good happy things.
Easier said than done. But....it's a good theory.
evile: So maybe rather than say "gee, it took you 9 years to notice
that I'm not Mary Fucking Poppins with the housecleanng" I should
say "I'm so glad we both understand this fact and now we can move
forward with this new understanding firmly in mind!"
Mar. 18, 2004
SkyeDS: but it took a lot of pain to get there
evile: no pain no gain? :P
SkyeDS: :P~~~
evile: Well, past is past. No point in dwelling or letting past stuff
continue to be painful if it is not continuing in the present...and
maybe it will not continue. So...looking forward.
SkyeDS: what i was getting at is that I don't know how to distill how
we got here for the benefit of anyone else
evile: Well, and YMMV. The relationships of others as far as the
problems/problems solved, etc. are not going to be the same.
evile: I was under the impression that my behavior re: housecleaning,
my bitching & moaning and asking for help and nagging and writing
ugly letters and what-have-you had adequately conveyed my feelings
re: houseleaning.
SkyeDS: no, that has never worked for me either
evile: When what it actually took was us working together on one
thing, and me remarking "You know, this is probably only the 3rd time
in our total time living together that I've ever been on my hands and
knees scrubbing the floor"....
evile: And observing that he is better at cleaning (when he does it)
than I am.
evile: And finally just straight out saying "I hate cleaning!"
evile: "but it has to be done!"
SkyeDS: /me makes notes
evile: who knew...?
SkyeDS: actually I find when I ask both the boys to get something
accomplished by the time I get home, they do it together
SkyeDS: quite nicely
evile: that's cool.
SkyeDS: of course I'm also coming from the standpoint of, I work all
day, and so it won't hurt ya'll to clean while ya'll ar ehere
evile: exactly.
SkyeDS: since I'm the only one making a check right now
SkyeDS: but they get more accomplished together than either of them
by themselves
SkyeDS: I noticed this on the trail ride first
evile: that's awesome.
evile: I was really excited when Jason mentioned the possibility of
doing a presentation on 'poly' at the Rhizome...but apparently
they're being super flakey about the whole thing. quelle surprise.
dang hippies.
SkyeDS: I post the words of aradia concerning love, sex and marriage
to various poly groups from time to time
SkyeDS: every once and a while it gets compliments and queries on
original authorship
SkyeDS: but mostly it gets ignored
SkyeDS: /me shrugs
evile: I think that falls into the 'ymmv' category. What may work
best for you and your relationships may not be what works for someone
else.
SkyeDS: actually, they are a statement in line with what most of the
published statements of the group are, so go figure
evile: yeah. But some people may not be totally comfortable with the
religious stuff.
SkyeDS: I don't post it as religious stuff
SkyeDS: hence why occasionally I get asked if I wrote it myself
evile: hm.
SkyeDS: I post it as "words to live by"
SkyeDS: I'm not interested in discussing the specifics of my path
with outclan
evile: I don't know what to tell ya then....maybe people just don't
care to be told what to do or how to live their lives, even if it's
good advice. Or maybe it seems so obvious/self-evident that nobody
has anything to add or argue with.
SkyeDS: I think what happens is that I see someone say "how do you do
this poly thing"
SkyeDS: so I post
evile: aha
SkyeDS: and being told that you havce to be brutally painfully honest
SkyeDS: and communicate
SkyeDS: which is what all successful polys say one way or another
SkyeDS: isn't what some people want to hear
evile: yup. too bad. It's good relationship advice, regardless of #
of partners.
evile: I've been working through 1/2 of my lunch breaks all week this
week. Next week, too. Maybe after the 26th, we can try another Friday
picnic.
SkyeDS: yep :)
evile: We do actually seem to be getting caught up at work.
SkyeDS: Hugh left for Corpus at 2 today
SkyeDS: so I have th erest of the day and tomorrow to myself
evile: nice :)
SkyeDS: I was afraid he'd say, n othing for you to do so don't come in
SkyeDS: but he didn't :)
evile: Well, hopefully he's noticed by now that you're a self-starter
& you can find things to do without being watched and bossed around
every second.
SkyeDS: I hope I hope I hope
SkyeDS: wonder what all the sirens are
evile: no tellin.
evile: We get a lot of 'em coming by because of Brackenridge. Another
reason I am grateful for my big-ass headphones.
SkyeDS: I think I'll bring the boys and the son into town with me
tomorrow
SkyeDS: lots of stuff needs doing in town
SkyeDS: they're out of mountain laurels but will have more tomorrow
SkyeDS: got to go collect the rent that is now 3 weeks late
SkyeDS: and do lots of courier stuff
evile: cool. Sounds like a plan :)
evile: I was sleeping when Mark & Jeanne got in from the airport, so
I still have no idea what their plans look like. Still playing it by
ear, I guess
SkyeDS: Hugh's daughter went on her first real date last night
SkyeDS: to the Austin Music Awards (way cool)
evile: awesome.
evile: how come none of my high school boyfriends took me anyplace
that cool :(
SkyeDS: I seldom went anyplace that cool in HS either
SkyeDS: of course Txka HAS nothing that cool
evile: heh. point.
evile: I don't remember 'dating' as such, really...mostly it seems I
went out with groups of people.
SkyeDS: I remember going to dinner, going to movies, and going skating
SkyeDS: there wasn't anything else to do
SkyeDS: I didn't enjoy cruising state line
SkyeDS: I didn't go to the lake to get drunk and pregnant
SkyeDS: and I wasn't a mallrat
evile: heh. I was.
SkyeDS: many more things to do in Txka now than then
evile: Im sure :)
evile: I think they even have a bureau of tourism now :P
SkyeDS: have always had
SkyeDS: the largest one in Texas
evile: I was just being an ass, don't mind me :)
evile: It doesnt' look like I'm going to get my 'last hurrah'
roadtrip before I turn in my car. Oh well...
evile: Maybe if I took off right after work the 26th. and then got
back noonish the 28th. That might work... I'd miss Nikiyoy's b-day, but
she's one of those...girly girls that I might not actually like if I
spent time with.
evile: She's pretty, but also young & thoughtless & selfish, and one
of those catty/cliquey people. So...I like her friends & would
probably like her party, but not necessarily for her.
SkyeDS: have no idea who she is
evile: Plus I still have no clue where I'd go if I did go somewhere.
Niki is the very very tall Amazon gal. I think when you met her she
was with roninjedi, who is a very handsome, well-spoken black man.
SkyeDS: I remember roninjedi
evile: roninjedi and Nikiyoy broke up & now roninjedi is with onyxlynxx. All of
this to-ing and fro-ing is very interesting to watch. & doesnt' seem
to be horribly painful for anyone so I can admit I'm entertained.
SkyeDS: I had a friend named onyxlynxx at UT
evile: I am not sure what I think of onyxlynxx. She's quite mercurial.
I'd guess her a Pisces.
evile: Depending on who she's with at the moment, I can like her or
dislike her.
SkyeDS: my friend onyxlynxx was bipolar and had to be on lithium
evile: hm. I have no idea of onyxlynxx's med status. She's about my
height, maybe a little taller, shoulder length reddish brown hair.
Glasses, I think. Usually very friendly & smiley.
SkyeDS: sounds much like the one I knew, might be the same
SkyeDS: Austin can be small
evile: could be. That would be funny.
evile: Erinlefey's Tangentsferret was in the Austin Rocky cast same time as X.
They had some sort of antipathy towards one another.
evile: Part of me is very tempted to get tangentsferret aside and ask for old
dirty gossip on all of that...but it would be pointless, if amusing.
evile: Plus I'm not sure if tangentsferret even likes me. I am not sure if I'm
reading 'super-sub' vibes or 'get the fuck away from me' vibes around
her.
evile: I've already messed up once with one of Erinlefey's GFs, I dont'
want to go there again...
SkyeDS: I mess up all the time, I'm used to it
evile: Well, there are just boundaries where I don't expect them in a
lot of this stuff...and we've already established that I'm not a
great communicator.
evile: Pace was somewhat distressed, I was just embarassed, and Erinlefey
was just like 'whatever'...so ultimately it wasn't that bad.
evile: But if I make a habit of transgressing boundaries, eventually
someone's going to get grouchy about it, I'm sure.
SkyeDS: they usually do
evile: yup.
evile: Well, yay. It's time for me to make my rounds & get home at a
decent hour for the first time this week!
evile: I put in extra OT earlier in the week so I could get by with
just working 1/2 my lunch and going home at the regular time Thurs &
Fri.
SkyeDS: :)
evile: And I get a bus ride so I can decompress from work & get
into 'happy hostess' mode
evile: Anyhoo, I'm outtie. See ya tomorrow :)
SkyeDS: ciao bella :)
evile: *hugs!*
