the May 2003 In Style magazine I stole from Dr. Davis' office had an
article on Macy Gray's house. She had her LR ceiling draped in
fabric, with the lights behind/above the fabric. It looked way cool.
I wanna do that...

and fabric all day long... *sigh* Do you know that
X's mom Jana is pretty much the main reason I
didn't do that? Yeah...When I was 16 or 17, I told her
I wanted to be an interior designer and she grilled me
on all this terminology & stuff I didn't know at the
time, made fun of my ignorance, then gave me some
dismal statistics on how many unemployed designers
there are. So I gave up that dream. No wonder X is
so fucked up & never did anything real with her life.
She was raised around that shit her whole life.
Seriously, though, when I get a jones this bad for a
'look' you can pretty much bet it's going to be very
HOT very soon. Watch the store windows & the catalogs,
m'dear.

I sometimes have that anticipating a trend thing, too. I agree -
your furniture/decor thing is going to be big.
It really sucks that Jana discouraged you from going into design.
You gotta wonder what the fuck was going through her head that she
thought it was somehow okay to kill a kid's dream like that.
No wonder X is so messed up.
I rained here yesterday, too. It seems like, for every day of
sunshine, we have to have three days of rainy crap.
Therapy last night was good. I was in sort of a bad mood - just kind
of cranky), but I felt better after. And then, Rick and I had *lots*
of Indian food and drank a bottle & a half of Syrah. It was a nice
evening

It occurred to me while pondering the Jana thing:
1. a dream/ambition that can't hold up to one person
poking at it is probably one that needed to die.
2. X didn't accomplish anything with her life until
after her mother died, which I didn't really think
much of until I thought about how rude & mean Jana was
about putting people down and mocking their ambitions.
Now that I'm in my 30's, I consider the source: an
ex-hippie, ex-junkie alcoholic who never worked for a
living after hooking [husband MV]. Back then, though, it was
basically coming from a 2nd 'mom'...so it hurt bad. Ah
well, I'm not dead, so if I really wanted to try and
make decorating my career, I could. Theoretically.
