evile: hi :) how's your day going?
SkyeDS: well, there is now a Friesian stallion in my big pasture
evile: interesting.
SkyeDS: http://agdirect.com/scripts/hrsdetl.exe?1101610213&0
evile: this particular one?
SkyeDS: he has no ground manners to speak of. and he's too big to
not have manners. so Imina take care of that.
SkyeDS: that one.
evile: wow...13 grand. jeez.
evile: how did you get him from MN?
SkyeDS: he isn't mine, I'm boarding him for the ladies who bought him
evile: aha. OK
SkyeDS: there are two ladies in business together, one of them owns a
stallion station in Corsicana
SkyeDS: which is where they had intended to keep him
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: well, time comes to have him delivered, and she is nowhere to
be found because she's off at the funeral of her husband and son (or
wherever she really is, how would I know)
SkyeDS: so the other lady, who lives in GT and works in RR, has her
own place, but it's full of mares with foals
SkyeDS: not a good place to keep a stallion
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: and it's damn hard to find a commercial facility to board a
stallion for damn good reason
evile: yup
SkyeDS: I told her, it's my belief that stallions belong in pipe
rail, I don't care how gentle they are
SkyeDS: but if you want to try him out here, I'm game, until he tears
down the fence or one of mine does
evile: you can't do much to or about instinct...it's there for sound
biological reasons.
SkyeDS: usually it's Mirage that's boycrazy, Jezebel has only been
attracted to one boy, a big, stupid, fugly TB gelding named Tonto
SkyeDS: but Jezebel went into immediate heat last night
evile: aha.
SkyeDS: and I told sineater, if there's an accident I can't say as I'd be
too upset about it
SkyeDS: Friesians are part of the foundation stock for Morgans, after
all, and the cross would be stunning
SkyeDS: plus if for whatever reason she doesn't keep the board paid
including all expenses (veterinary etc) then he's mine
evile: surely the owners would not feel happy about you getting free
stud service out of their purebred expensive animal, on your
unpapered (but nice & pretty) mares?
SkyeDS: that's their problem
evile: guess so.
SkyeDS: I haven't met the woman in Corsicana
SkyeDS: but the woman I'm dealing with is very open and honest, but
truthfully not very bright
evile: oh.
evile: always interesting to meet people with more money than sense.
SkyeDS: and the reason they paid 13K for a stallion is because he did
not pass his first keuring and might never pass a keuring so they
can't breed him to another registered Friesian
SkyeDS: but like some people say that pizza is like sex, even bad
pizza/sex is good
evile: in that case, I'd geld him, were he mine.
SkyeDS: even the least beautiful Friesian is a good lookin horse
SkyeDS: that's going to be my advice
SkyeDS: but I'd bet a dime to a dollar that they're going to cross
breed him and make sportbabies
SkyeDS: sporthorse crosses = very trendy
evile: *shrug* It's peoples own business what they want to do with
their animals.
SkyeDS: the conversation between him and Shorty this morning was very
entertaining. Shorty announced in his little shrill, "I'm a stud
colt!"
SkyeDS: and Fritz answered, "Oh yeah, well I'm a STALLION baby!"
evile: hopefully that will at least keep shorty off your property.
SkyeDS: that thought had crossed my mind
SkyeDS: sineater called Connie last night to tell her we now have a
boarder so it's even more important that they keep Shorty where he
belongs
SkyeDS: I thought it would be wise not to mention that the boarder is
a 13K rare purebred stallion
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: anyway, the woman is paying for the full meal deal, which
includes exercise
SkyeDS: so I'm basically being paid to ride this horse
SkyeDS: "started under saddle" my fat ass
SkyeDS: nice to be paid to ride someone else's Friesian, if I can get
him ridable
evile: *nod* that will be fun.
SkyeDS: if it doesn't get me killed :D
evile: well...everyone has to die sometime. Might as well be doing
something you like :P
SkyeDS: there is t hat :P
SkyeDS: this woman was so not bright when we were on the phone, I
thought, yeah, she's probably found her some Tennessee Walker that
she thinks looks like a Friesian, or a cross, or whatever
SkyeDS: so I get home last night and look in t he trap and I'm like
OMG
evile: wow.
SkyeDS: and I have had nothing but OMG OMG OMFG running through my
head since
evile: I bet!
evile: I hope you get some pictures of your guest before the owners
take him away again :)
SkyeDS: nods
evile: oof. drandmir coronation is the weekend right after sineater's
birthday. Also smack in the middle of TRF season. Oh well.
SkyeDS: right in the middle of sca eq season too
evile: oops!
SkyeDS: stallions have to be trained 3 days a week
SkyeDS: I wonder if she knows that.
evile: hope so.
evile: well, NOLA is definitely out for October. *sigh* Maybe forever.
SkyeDS: :(
evile: it sucks so much that people are so awful...natural disaster
is bad enough without shooting, looting, rape & murder.
SkyeDS: nods
evile: man...I found and lost so many parts of my soul in that
town....
SkyeDS: I would wager that the natives will go back a nd rebuild,
regardless of what it takes
evile: yeah. I'm sure.
evile: but this is probably their Galveston
evile: in 1900, Galveston was the cultural and economic capitol of
TX. There was a hurricane that destroyed it completely, killed a huge
percentage of the population, and Galveston has never regained its
status. Shipping moved to Houston, and Houston never did get much
culture.
SkyeDS: :(
evile: I imagine this will be much the same. There will be quaint
touristy trade still...but that might be it.
SkyeDS: after all that we did for the tsunami victims around t he
world, one would think that we would be doing even more when it's our
own
evile: yup. And W is doing this ridiculous stereotypical cowboy
shit "WE dont' want no help, we can take care of our own'...when
accepting aid from other counries would be gracious and build bridges
for future diplomacy and mutually beneficial relationships.
SkyeDS: Pat Buchanan is out to get him impeached
evile: it seems counter-intuitive, but accepting help from others
actually makes the others feel *more* rather than *less* likely to
feel favorably towards you and offer more in future.
SkyeDS: there are six words for gratitude in Japanese. they all bear
a faintly negative connotation because then whomever has been helped
owes something to the one who helped them
SkyeDS: so if by helping someone they owe you one, of course they
feel favorably towards you
evile: I'm thinking more of the 'give a mouse a cookie' 'give an
inch/take a mile' 'foot in the door' type psychology. If you
say 'yes' once you 'll say 'yes' again. So, let France and whoever
else help us with our hurricane, then ask them later to help us in
other places, they'll be more likely to say 'yes'
SkyeDS: well, she called her insurance and they told her they
wouldn't cover him if he weren't in pipe rail
SkyeDS: so he goes home tonight
SkyeDS: her round pen is made of out pipe rail
evile: aww
SkyeDS: I didn't have the chance to tell her you better work him 3
days a week
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: she keeps insisting she's seen videos of him on 3 hour trail
rides
SkyeDS: anyway, it was fun while it lasted
SkyeDS: why anyone would attempt to ride a horse that cannot be lead
quietly is beyond me
evile: *shrugs*
SkyeDS: she gave me not $100 in cash last night but 2
evile: that's nice :)
SkyeDS: and so today, I said, I'll still want to charge you $20 for
overnighting him, she said keep the whole hundred for your time and
trouble
SkyeDS: so like a big dummy, I said, well, you gave me 2, not 1 last
night
SkyeDS: and keeping a horse overnight, even if he was a stallion is
not worth 100
SkyeDS: so she says, keep 50 and send me the rest
SkyeDS: in t he mail
evile: wow.
SkyeDS: I"m going to get hom etonight and she's not even going to
have him haltered yet
SkyeDS: OR, she's not going to have been able to get him in the
trailer because of the trains
SkyeDS: why, why do people who have no business with rare horses, or
any horse, or anything other than a hamster or a goldfish, have the
money to acquire rare breeds?
evile: yup. the money/no sense thing is frustrating enough to watch
when there are not innocent animals being damaged as a result.
SkyeDS: I get aggravated at people who buy 30K concert grands for
their music students of 2 years or less (completely untalented ones)
SkyeDS: and pianos are insensible
evile: *nods* it's frustrating.
evile: I am unbelievably sad. I think I'm going to have to throw a
hurricane party. And definitely come up with things to raffle in SA
at the otter gathering on Saturday.
SkyeDS: nods
SkyeDS: *hugs*
evile: thanks. I think I'm going to sneak out early.
*hugs* Take care of you. Hope you get a couple pictures before they
take your pretty visitor away :)
