browsing thru the neiman marcuscatalog while nuking lunch, found
some cool dishes by this company. They're white porcelain with
aluminum edging. The NM exclusive design has butterflies.

I like the grapes & the palms.

the horse theme would be fun for your weekend/ranch house

evile: Missed ya yesterday! My boss was totally hovering!!
SkyeDS: isp was stupid all day yesterday so I couldn' t get online
    until after 5 anyway :(
    evile: bummer!
SkyeDS: I think I have my first paying riding student :)
SkyeDS: waiting for her to call me back to confirm
    evile: awesome!
SkyeDS: woman moved out to Rockdale from Liberty Hill and is working
    for the Reporter now.
SkyeDS: I figure a Reporter employee is good.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: good place to get word of mouth.
SkyeDS: plus the ribbon cutting tomorrow.
    evile: exactly!
SkyeDS: and I looked up that company
SkyeDS: they are a real estate investment company
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: officed in a historical landmarkl
SkyeDS: so if they offer the right amount of money...
SkyeDS: and, I gave it some thought
evile: yeah, that would be fun.
SkyeDS: my contract says I can hire subcontractors
SkyeDS: and there's no reason sineater can't do what I do.
SkyeDS: very little of what Hugh needs is actual legal experience.
SkyeDS: and that way I won't leave him in the lurch
SkyeDS: I'll tell them I need two weeks notice
SkyeDS: and use that two weeks to train sineater.
evile: Sounds good to me. See what Hugh thinks!
    SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: I'm going to interview with them tomorrow afternoon after the
    ribbon cutting
    evile: *fingers crossed*
SkyeDS: I don't see any point in broaching it with Hugh until I get
    an offer on the table
    evile: right.
evile: sweetie had an interview last Thurs & got an offer Tuesday. It was
about 10K less than he thinks he's worth, so he's going to counter &
    see what they say.
    SkyeDS: wish him luck!
SkyeDS: will he take it if they don't accept t he counter?
    evile: Doubtful.
evile: He wants a permanent FT job with bennies, but he's not quite
desperate & pathetic enough to go that low. :P
evile: Plus there's another possibility in the works...so he doesn't
feel like he's obligated to take this one or nothing.
SkyeDS: always good to have multiple irons in the fire
    evile: Yup.
evile: (wouldn't know. I'm a permanent dead end.)
SkyeDS: I'm not an expert on salary negotiation but there are lots of
people who put such advice online
evile: Yeah. sweetie said he found a good website for helping craft a
    letter
evile: He is stubborn, and we aren't hurting, so he doesn't have to
take the job. I guess that's all good.
    SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: if I were in that position, I'd say look, let me be perfectly
    candid
SkyeDS: I have these other offers, and the salary is more in line
    with what I'm worth
SkyeDS: but I really want to work for you
SkyeDS: so could something be worked out?
evile: Heh. I suggested that he use the phrase "While I take offense
    at your low offer...".. heh.
evile: (he was actually offended, BTW. Silly.)
SkyeDS: $12/hr is hardly what I'm worth
SkyeDS: but I told Hugh I'd work for what the woman before me worked
    for, and that was it
SkyeDS: and at the time I made the offer I was making $8/hour, so it
    was an improvement
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: of course after $20/hour at IBM...different perspective
SkyeDS: I"m worth between $17 and $20, as both legal assistant and
    office manager.
SkyeDS: but for what I do here, $12 is not worth being offended about
SkyeDS: besides I was going to ask for a raise for my birthday anyway
evile: And you can't beat the working conditions.. :)
SkyeDS: and $12 will be just fine for sineater depending on what offer
the new place makes if they make.
    evile: yup.
    SkyeDS: brb
    SkyeDS: bk
    evile: me too
evile: I'm all antsy & compulsive today. I counted the days until
Montana and the days till Xmas in Vegas...argh. I could be using this
energy at home, but NO, I have to putz around at work until almost 6.
    *sigh*
    SkyeDS: I'm here till 6:15
evile: (very deliberately *not* counting the days until my surgery in
    April..
SkyeDS: then I'm getting my hair cut on the way home
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: got to do that stupid court hearing on that stupid ticket
before I get to go to my ribbon cutting and interview
SkyeDS: which are all sandwiched rather tightly together
SkyeDS: but the stupid evil kneivel cop was wrong on two counts of law
SkyeDS: and he isnt' going to know what hit him
    evile: Heh.
SkyeDS: last time I set for trial, years ago, I walked into the
courtroom and they immediately dismissed it
SkyeDS: because the prosecutor didn't want to deal with me
SkyeDS: (he lost the last time we locked horns)
    evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: here I am all ramped up for it and just watch, the cop won't
    show or something else.
evile: probably. But it's best to be prepared
evile: I managed to walk almost an hour yesterday after work. I am in
pain today. wuss that I am.
SkyeDS: I haven't walked at all this week :(
SkyeDS: I'm tryin gto talk Hugh into going for a short walk with me
to look at some office spaces down 13th towards the Cap.
evile: Is it still sprinkly out?
    SkyeDS: looks like
SkyeDS: wish it would be sprinkl y at home.
    evile: helps the grass grow.
SkyeDS: can always tell if we've gotten enough rain for this time of
year by the bluebonnets or lack thereof.
SkyeDS: just don't want another year like last year when it just flat
    stopped raining in May.
    evile: yuck.
evile: Shoot. [aunt L] just called & I forgot to ask her if [brother A] & The Rubber Pig
came & stayed with them this weekend.
SkyeDS: I would have forgotten my head all this week if it weren't
for being attached to my hair.
evile: heh. I know this feeling...
SkyeDS: sineater finally put a CD in my hand this morning and said take
this with you (after I forgot it two days running)
    evile: Nice of him.
evile: I'm seriously looking at ipods & such
SkyeDS: only problem with them is the battery issue I'm sure youv'e
    seen about
evile: 1 or 2 OT checks down the road...maybe in time for my
bday. ..yeah, the battery thing sucks.
SkyeDS: Hugh buys his teenager a $120 mp3 player and then spends $25
on a service deal and just replaces it every three years.
    evile: heh.
evile: I just don't know enough about any of those things to feel
like I'd be making a wise purchasing decision. And i don't spend that
kind of $ without knowing EXACTLY what I'm buying & how it works,
    etc.
SkyeDS: bet sineater & sweetie know all about them.
    evile: Bet sweetie doesn't.
evile: he isn't an 'entertainment' geek.
evile: He knows about boring stuff like routers & firewalls. Nothing
    about games or toys.
evile: Peglegasus or Big James might know...but there aren't many people
that I'd willingly display my dirt-ignorance to. Probably better just
to to to Fryes or wherever and play with stuff& read boxes until I
find something I like and feel like I could use.
evile: Mostly I never want to listen to the radio again, and I would
like another buffer between me and my fellow bus-riders. Sometimes a
    book just isn't enough.
evile: It would also be nice to have an upbeat 'workout soundtrack'
    of some kind.
SkyeDS: /me nods complete agmt to all of the above
SkyeDS: some poitn I'm going to invest in a treadmill and some movies
so I don't have the weather excuse.
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: when I went to the skating rink as a teenager I'd laugh at
the old people bringing their own music
    SkyeDS: now I understand, lol
evile: heh. Some people do that at skate night.
evile: I'd worry about not hearing someone saying or shouting a
warning that they were about to run into me...
evile: Sort of the same concept as 'no headphones while driving'.
SkyeDS: we had a skating rink and a movie theater in Rockdale many
years ago, wish we still did
evile: aww. suck. Maybe someone will start it up again.
evile: ooh, free Yoga! Too bad there's just 1more class :(
    http://www.yogayoga.com/press/yogainparkFeb
SkyeDS: lots of yoga around, more opportunities will arise for the
    vigilant I'm sure.
SkyeDS: but no more yoga on mt bonnell
    SkyeDS: too tiring :P
evile: Oh, Ithought they'd cancelled it.
evile: Last time I went it was brats brats as far as the eye could
see. I haven't been back since.
    SkyeDS: no thanks
evile: I don't mind climbing Mt. Bonnell. Given enough recovery time
between the climb and the Yoga, it's probably a great workout. But I
can't relax when I hear squealing, whining, and feel little bodies
    bumping into me.
evile: I should just go up there on my own with my yoga mat & my yoga
    deck sometime.
evile: Or out to 'my' park. :)
SkyeDS: if the critters didn't turn out to be an issue, I have a
    great spot overlooking my pond
SkyeDS: bare ground, completely tree canopied
    SkyeDS: brb

SkyeDS: bk, slow on and off, sorry
    evile: no problem :)
SkyeDS: have to log off every time I send or receive a fax...sigh
    evile: Oh well :)
evile: man..I can't wait to get home & get some stretching & a hot
bath. Every time I get up to walk around I get a nice sneak preview
of the day I'm old and decrepit.
SkyeDS: add fat to that list in my case
SkyeDS: but I'm working on that slowly but surely
SkyeDS: I'm thinkin if the horse bidness takes off, won't be fat for
    long, too much physical labor.
evile: I can't imagine being old & arthritic AND having to haul
around an extra bunch of weight. So, me too. I dont' want to put more
strain on my old body than I must...
SkyeDS: am already arthritic in knees
SkyeDS: have been since I was in college though
SkyeDS: but the weight makes it worse
evile: The theory is that if you get a regimen of stretching & moving
in your 30s you can put off a lot of the pains of aging...
SkyeDS: skating and biking regularly and marching used to alleviate
    it some
SkyeDS: I'm sure youv'e seen the Indian women who are absolutely
gorgeous and look like they're 20 into their 50s and 60s
evile: So, basically we are at the 'now or never' state of being. If
we dont' take care of ourselves while we're 30 we are going to be
some very sorry pathetic 60-70-80 year olds :(
evile: The thought of feeling like I do today for any length of time
gives me *great* sympathy for Elaine's suicide attempt..
    SkyeDS: :(
evile: She's been overweight basically since she had Patrick. And
arthritic for at least 20 years on top of that. So...yeah. I can see
where quality of life would become an issue after 20-30 years of pain
    and misery.
    SkyeDS: /me nods
evile: I'm trying to get Aunt L & Elaine both into yoga. But I'm lazy,
and they're lazy & fearful ...so we'll get there eventually maybe if
    I'm gentle & persistent enough.
SkyeDS: they did this show called "Yoga for the rest of us" on PBS
    during fund raising
SkyeDS: was a bunch of elderly people some using chairs some not
    SkyeDS: looked good
evile: yoga yoga has 'gentle yoga' which I think would be a good
intro, then we could probably work up to Hatha.
evile: Plus their yogi tea rocks my world...
SkyeDS: they're off Lamar and either 5th or 6th in the Chico building
    right?
    SkyeDS: second floor?
evile: They have 3 locations. I've been to the North and the South
    one.
    SkyeDS: oh
    SkyeDS: where's the north one?
evile: Near Northcross Mall on Anderson.
evile: I have ulterior motives re: yoga yoga...if I have a class, I
can turn down Terriblelynne's invitation to bead night without feeing
    guilty...
SkyeDS: lately when I don't feel up to something I say so
    SkyeDS: it's honest.
    evile: it's not that I dont' feel 'up'...it's that I really can't
stand one of the other bead night regulars. And I am not going to
stand there and tell the hostess she has to choose between one friend
and another. I'd rather find a gracious way to take myself out of the
    picture...without lying outright.
evile: For now, I'm just 'micro-fibbing' and saying that my work room
is a mess (true) and I can't find everything I'd need to get a
    project done (probably true, too)
    SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: it's hardly fibbing to not go to HFS because I've got other
stuff to do and no finances
    SkyeDS: both are very true
    evile: yup.
evile: I dont' think it's lying to give an incomplete truth. No point
in bringing up the interpersonal BS when the finances & busy-ness are
    enough good reasons.
evile: I'm getting better about curtailing 'truths' that are non-
    productive and /or hurtful.
SkyeDS: I do good as long as I can remember to keep it short and sweet
    SkyeDS: and not over explain
    evile: yup
evile: Our email server at work appears to be having Issues. sweetie
called to see if I got his email. I had not. he sent it at 2:25. I
    didn't get it until 3:11
evile: He went ahead and asked for the salary he wanted. Hopefully
they'll be able to do it.
SkyeDS: I used not to get mail from sineater at Dell for days sometimes
    evile: bizarre.
evile: One of my coworkers brought the Nieman Marcus catalog to work.
Godawful ugly dresses. I think designers mock their customers in this
way: "how ugly can I make a piece of clothing and people will still
pay 3 grand for it? and WEAR it!??"
    SkyeDS: /me nods
evile: They *did* have some nice dishes, though. I didn't know Nambe
was doing non-metal dishes & glassware now.
evile: And Arthur Court designs had some white porcelain dishes with
metal around the edges. Pretty nice. I found their website & they
have some cool stuff. Some super-tacky too.
evile: They have a whole line of horse stuff. One or two pieces might
be nice, but not the whole product line or anything.
    http://www.arthurcourt.com/zhorse/main.htm
evile: I especially like the candle holder
    http://www.arthurcourt.com/zhorse/09-0276.jpg
and the horse stand. But I wish the bowl was glass, not acrylic.
    http://www.arthurcourt.com/zhorse/05-0134.jpg
    SkyeDS: :)
evile: You could do the horse theme stuff at your house, and I'd do
the grape theme stuff at my house :P
evile: And then we could make fun of the people who collect
the 'safari' line. the monkey pitcher is hideous & terrifying!!!
    http://www.arthurcourt.com/zmonkey/10-2128.jpg
SkyeDS: hope it rained at home
evile: It would be nice :)
evile: I am so ready to be HOME. I've got almost 2 more hours here,
    though :(
evile: At 4:15 I'm going to see if I can get a photocopier to use for
a long while. The clerical staff usually hogs them all day & gives us
dirty looks when we need to use them. stupid work crap.
evile: okeydoke, I'm ready to go copy, I think. Have a nice evening
& a good haircut & good luck with everything tomorrow!! *hugs*
