I don't know what to think about the Clintons. It seems that among the wealthy and powerful, the husbands can do whatever they like with whoever they like as long as they're discreet about it...far as I know Hillary never came out and did a 60 minutes interview about how Bill can't keep it in his pants. And neither did Jackie O, or Lady Bird Johnson, or any other political wives whose husbands were well known philanderers.

I don't know. Maybe there never were any actual Statesmen with morals, dignity and integrity, ever. Maybe the only difference between now and then was that the press in the past was less scandal-hungry, or people were just more willing to let celebrities have their private lives...

I don't think cheating is cool...but there seems to have been a lot of 'don't ask don't tell' type relationships in our parents' and grandparents' generations. *shrug*

I think that the very same charisma that pushes people into a career in politics comes off as sexiness up close in person. It's the same glamor, really.

The concept of "cheating" isn't one that we can judge from outside the marriage. As you point out, neither Jacquie nor Hillary didn't toss the dawgs out. Evidently they were okay with the deal they had. I suspect they were more oppressed by people JUDGING that they shouldn't be okay than actually heart-broken that their insatiable husbands were having interns go down on him in the oval office.

I have no idea what the terms of their marriage were and would prefer not to speculate. I've never felt that people's abilities to govern were related to their abilities to keep their pants zipped up. On the contrary, if sex can relieve a bit of the pressure of the job that's fine with me.

well, right. martital fidelity really doesn't have much to do with how well a person can perform at work, or play a sport, or what-have-you. But when you have people like Newt and the rest of the Repugnicrats bloviating on about 'family values' and trying to judge, condemn, and regulate other people's lifestyle choices as part of their 'job'...then you have a blurring effect.
