I prefer to go dutch. But it's up to the people dating to figure out. If people can't communicate effectively about something as simple as dinner plans, it's not a good sign for the future. Just my humble two cents.

I get my wallet out and then ask. Usually I end up going dutch. I'm okay with paying because I don't go anywhere I can't afford on a first date.

Agreed. And yeah, I prefer to go dutch too, at least on a first date. Future dates can be negotiated, of course. I have two platonic regular "dates" where we alternate who pays, which works out really well for us. :)
