So, yesterday I found myself inordinately irritated with not one but several people who are out in the world purporting to be 'experts' at various things, when really the thing they're expert in is telling everyone how expert they are. When you actually hunker down and look for the product, service, or expertise...it just isn't there. That annoyed me. Then I kind of took a different view. If people find value in the experts telling them they're experts, and listen to them and support them financially without actually receiving the product or service, BUT they're still happy with whatever they ARE getting from those experts...who am I to judge? They're happy. They feel they're getting their money's worth. OK, fine. I have other things that I would prefer to spend my time, money, and esteem upon. Nobody is wrong here and there is no need for me to force an unwanted opinion on people. Enjoy the Emperor's Fashion Show. I'll be over here, making banana stew.

'Banana Stew? Ye gods,' ye say. Yes, indeed. [livejournal.com profile] darien_spider, the current Ruling Lord of Drandmir, has charged the Master Chef, Feastocrat Eek (me) with making Banana Stew. (Probably not for Coronation, though. The facilities out there are a cold water spigot, 3 electrical outlets and a large grill. So I'm thinkin' we'll go with something more Texan for Coronation: grilled meats & veggies. Corn & potatoes in foil with butter. That kind of thing.)

Anyhoo, I've been having fun with the Banana Stew thing. I've found a recipe or two. I've tried one.

And then, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] danicia and her dark chocolate linguine, I got the idea of making banana ravioli!

I'm going to try and make chocolate pasta, from this recipe. If that doesn't work, my backup plan is to try and use wontons for the ravioli shells. Not as interesting or fun or authentic, but we'll see. I am not so good with the flour-based items from scratch. Baking and such are never a good time for me. I can cook. I can't bake. But I keep on tryin'.

The filling will be adapted from here. I plan on adding peanut butter rather than the nut mixture.

And the sauce will be something like this, with maybe some chocolate added.

So, that's what I'm up to lately. Cookin' like a fiend.

PS: If my banana-ey goodness hasn't scared you away, you should check out this LJ community. It is...well, I can't decide if it's awesome or terrifying. Either way, a good read for a cloudy day stuck at work with nothing to do.
