ICQ
evile: Happy Monday! How was the rest of your weekend?
SkyeDS: I am sore as hell but we had a very good weekend :) we made
more in two days at Salado than four days at Emory.
evile: that's cool.
SkyeDS: I love Salado.
evile: me too, it's a cute town.
SkyeDS: I notice that no matter where it's posted, we get more of an
audience if we "cry" the show like fifteen minutes before we start.
evile: I didn't see any maps or lists of performers/schedule of
performances anywhere.
evile: I totally missed Rengeek and the pub, wherever they were
SkyeDS: I didn't notice until yesterday that at the main booth
performers show times were posted on the side, but I didn't see ours.
evile: I didn't see anything at all...I liked the bellydance troupe
they had on the main ampitheatre stage, I would have liked to know
more about them.
evile: dammit, ICQ keeps randomly disconnecting me.
evile: Anyhoo...the last thing on my screen was:
SkyeDS: I didn't notice until yesterday that at the main booth
performers show times were posted on the side, but I didn't see ours.
evile: I didn't see anything at all...I liked the bellydance troupe
they had on the main ampitheatre stage, I would have liked to know
more about them.
SkyeDS: that was the last thing I said.
SkyeDS: they were smart and moved down into the shade yesterday.
evile: OK. didn't miss anything. It would be nice if I could stay
connected.
SkyeDS: which was not an option for us.
evile: the horses looked very hot.
evile: [cousin B] started feeling icky, so we left pretty soon after we saw
y'all.
SkyeDS: I would be interested in knowing exactly how hot it was this
last weekend.
evile: it got up to 108 at our house
evile: was 104 when we got home
evile: dammit. icq is being stupid.
SkyeDS: I saw you on AIM when I first logged in, I figured something
was wrong with icq
SkyeDS: SkyeDS: we all stayed so hydrated we were nearly floating
away, and we kept cold gels on our necks, and we still all were heat
exhausted at the end of both days.
SkyeDS: we ate both nights at the Salado Mansion, which was quite
lovely.
evile: I'm glad you didn't get heatstroke.
evile: I was on aim, but none of my messages seemed to be getting to
anyone, nobody was writing back to me, so I figured it wasn't working.
SkyeDS: the boys said they thought it was as hot if not hotter than
Emory.
evile: ICQ is starting to really peeve me. I may have to give it up
for today if I get disconnected again.
SkyeDS: log back into AIM for a bit and I'll see if I can message
you/you can message me.
evile: OK...
AIM
Skye DreamSinger: Earth to evilE, Earth to evilE, do you read me?
bramblekite: taptap...this thing on?
Skye DreamSinger: I see you....
bramblekite: Ok. I'm here...for now. I think.
bramblekite: *pinch* yup.
Skye DreamSinger: :D
Skye DreamSinger: the boys thought it was as hot or hotter than at
Emory.
bramblekite: Lee (the Green Fop) was saying they wanted to get
Tablerock moved a couple weeks later, to hopefully get better
weather. Tablerock was hotter LAST year, if you can believe it.
Skye DreamSinger: I think it would have been better too if they
hadn't had Shakespeare at the same time.
Skye DreamSinger: Shakespeare could have melded just fine with the
faire, but the director in charge didn't want to meld, she just
wanted to be an ass to everyone involved in t he faire.
Skye DreamSinger: If the director in charge of Shakespeare didn't
want to share the sandbox, I don't understand why not reschedule one
or t'other.
bramblekite: yeah...
Skye DreamSinger: this is the same woman who when she talked to me
sounded like someone pissed in her frosted flakes.
bramblekite: some people are just really not very personality-
enabled, I guess
Skye DreamSinger: not one person mentioned her name without something
bad to say attached. including people who had not one other bad
thing to say all weekend. that's telling, to me.
bramblekite: that's too bad.
bramblekite: I enjoyed seeing the Bedlam Bards again, it had been too
long.
Skye DreamSinger: I didn't see much of anybody. I let the boys each
take some time off to go see the sites, but someone had to mind the
shop for them to do that, so I did that.
bramblekite: *nod*
Skye DreamSinger: I wish Excalibur well in finding a new site.
Skye DreamSinger: I felt bad for Marc (Gunn). We auditioned and he
offered us a contract until the jousting team said they'd back out if
we were there, no matter what we did that they weren't doing.
bramblekite: I hear they're looking in Bastrop
Skye DreamSinger: in my personal opinion, I think they'd be better
served to rent sites until such time as they find exactly what they
want/can afford in terms of buying their own site
bramblekite: probably.
Skye DreamSinger: instead of having to settle because of a deadline.
Skye DreamSinger: being in a hurry really isn't good when buying real
estate or a car.
bramblekite: nope. sellers can sense desperation
bramblekite: [cousin B] is all geared up for TRF now...
Skye DreamSinger: did I tell you about the Scarby Romany that came
looking for us specifically and after watching a show said we should
audition for Scarby?
Skye DreamSinger: (that's the bigtime imho)
bramblekite: that would be fun
bramblekite: serious time investment, though. cast rehearsals for
Scarby start in January
Skye DreamSinger: exactly.
Skye DreamSinger: Scarby = 6 mo commitment. TRF would be another 6.
Skye DreamSinger: I don't know that I want even one 6 mo commit, much
less 2.
bramblekite: yeah.
bramblekite: not if you still want to do SCA and or HFS stuff
Skye DreamSinger: we were dead tired after two weekends of Emory, and
we're going to be dead tired after Salado and Red River back to back.
Skye DreamSinger: and Waxahachie is a pretty good drive.
Skye DreamSinger: so my mom calls yesterday, and do they come to
Emory, which is close? no. Do they come to Salado (they love
Salado)? no. They're coming to... wait for it.... Red River (on the
Canadian...excuse me, I meant OK....border).
bramblekite: that's this upcoming weekend?
Skye DreamSinger: nods.
bramblekite: cool.
bramblekite: I love how ICQ hasn't crashed once since I started AIM
Skye DreamSinger: lol
bramblekite: crazy thing.
bramblekite: My weekends in Oct. & Nov. are already starting to fill
up. I have 2 in Oct that I could go to faire, and 2 in Nov, and
that's IT
Skye DreamSinger: did you see the Dragon at Tablerock?
Skye DreamSinger: I want to get sineater that mask.
Skye DreamSinger: I've never seen it, but he has, and he won't buy it
because he thinks it costs too much. So I'm going to buy it for him.
bramblekite: That was a cool dragon. The kids really loved it.
bramblekite: I forgot my camera on Saturday, I was so mad.
Skye DreamSinger: I don't think we got any pictures. I know we
brought the digital. We did take polaroids for people.
Skye DreamSinger: Parents brought this one little boy (he was like 6
yo) and paid for him a nd then he didn't want to ride by himself.
and then after his mom got up with him he didnt' want to ride with
her. Or his dad. or any of us.
Skye DreamSinger: until I put a sword in his hand and a pirate hat on
his head, and then he wanted to ride.
Skye DreamSinger: go figure.
bramblekite: heh. that's funny
Skye DreamSinger: did you see the Dragon do his whole routine with
the head extended and the wings out?
bramblekite: nope.
bramblekite: I did manage to get a couple pictures of [cousin B]'s garb
before we changed clothes and went swimming Saturday:

[14:14] Skye DreamSinger: sineater said he thought he might be carrying
around some form of battery or something else and fans underneat.
[14:16] Skye DreamSinger: I know he's older than the last time I saw
him, but he looks considerably older. Which makes me feel old,
hehe. Were those the wrap pants you made him?
evile: yup. I was up till 12:30 making those suckers.
evile: am I cisconnected in AIM?
SkyeDS: those were very nice indeed.
SkyeDS: do you think they would stand up to riding?
evile: No tellin.
SkyeDS: Jubilee has taken to costuming for $ to donate to Katrina
relief. I may ask her for a pair of wrap pants, and if she can't, I
may beg/plead/try to bribe you.
evile: I hope she comes through for you...those pants look OK but
they would not stand up to any up close scrutiny
SkyeDS: you know I've bought many pair of harem pants that fit just
fine on the ground, a nd that the boys have ridden in just fine, but
the minute I ride in them, they rip almost from one knee to the other
in the crotch.
SkyeDS: I have come to the conclusion that's because the reason
they're big enough for my belly is because they're made baggy enough
to fit around most women's hips with the crotch very low, and so they
have enough material for me to pull them up to my waist.
evile: Thax is probably a better/safer bet for servicable, attractive
garb.
SkyeDS: Right up until I swing my leg over the saddle.
evile: Harem pants don't fit me right, in my experience
SkyeDS: if I want a pair to ride in they're going to have to be made
custom I think.
SkyeDS: but I"d be just as happy with wrap pants.
evile: my 'easy' pattern I got off ebay still had bizarre terminology
that I didn't understand, and left out a step, or didn't have a
picture or SOMETHING. I got confused and pissed off a few times
Friday night.
SkyeDS: if Jubilee can't fit me in, I'll ask Thax. I'd been meaning
to spend money on him anyway.
SkyeDS: I have a whole bunch of repairs that need to be made,
including to a brand new (goddammit) purple matching chemise and
skirt that wasn't sewn right in the first place.
evile: I have a small pile of repairs/improvements that I've been
meaning to get to forever now.
SkyeDS: wow. looks like no equestrian events until mid October.
SkyeDS: I might have time to finish haying. And make repairs. And
clean house. omfg.
evile: *nod* there's always so much to do.
SkyeDS: it will be nice when I am in such better shape that I can
pull off a faire weekend without being so fuckin sore afterwards.
SkyeDS: I spent very little time in the saddle and most of my time on
my feet, playing ground crew by myself (which is usually a 3 or more
person job) and my legs feel like they're going to fall off.
evile: Yeah. building up some endurance will be nice :)
evile: dammit. One of these days, I *AM* going to make it to a pony
play demo.
evile: (reading Jadey's posts always gives me a bit of a brain-ache,
but it's usually worth it to muddle through and figure out what she
means)
evile: OH! and Scrith & felisviolaceous were posting for info about kitty play in
the voyagers yahoo group...you've probably got that set 'no mail' but
it's an interesting thread. Right up your alley, I think ;)
SkyeDS: why? just because I like scratching and biting and had fun as
catwoman for halloween one year? oh wait....nevermind... ;)
evile: *smile* Yeah..that.
SkyeDS: Hurricane Rita is a cat 3 headed right for Houston &
Galveston.
SkyeDS: maybe sineater should call Grammy and whoever's helping Nana now
to make sure they all have evacuation plans
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I don't understand why now that Bill and Katy have married,
graduated and gone off to Colorado that they feel the need to retain
the little shire for the Baylor kids.
SkyeDS: retain control I mean, long distance.
evile: *shrug*
SkyeDS: they handpicked someone to run the shire after they left and
made sure they had control over her by Bill giving her a squire's
belt.
evile: nothing better to do , I guess.
SkyeDS: the poor kids want to march in a parade to get exposure and
the powers that be are poo pooing it
SkyeDS: I told them ya know what? if the parade is nixed at the all
thing, and they don't want to spend the mo ney, let those of us who
march pay for it. the more of us that march, the merrier, and the
cheaper.
SkyeDS: and if we can't call ourselves Morconor, well, the KUmpania
Peregrina would be right proud to lend its name as aegis instead.
SkyeDS: I wonder if kids at Baylor have enough vocabulary to know
what "aegis" means.
evile: how bizarre of them...
evile: HFSers are forever talking about drumming up membership, but
are then not very friendly to new faces, so ...whatever.
SkyeDS: I don't see how the officers can keep the rest of the Shire
from marching under the name of Morconor.
SkyeDS: HFS is not a legal entity.
SkyeDS: they have no legal rights to the use of the name Morconor.
evile: no...but there's plenty of interpersonal bullshit they could
pull on someone who did something they didn't want them to do.
SkyeDS: there's an election coming up. anyone does that to my
friends because of me, or for any other reason, and I'll make sure
that a little "posse" pays dues and votes and there will be pork in
the trees coming morning.
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: they rigged the last election.
SkyeDS: deliberately so those of us they knew wanted to pay dues and
vote wouldn't be aware of when things were going on.
SkyeDS: we're going to make sure that doesn't happen again.
evile: sounds like a plan.
SkyeDS: and I can tell by the defensive tone in the Sheriff's last
few posts that she is not popular.
evile: Unfortunate that things that are supposed to be fun, and a
game, turn into such an unpleasant mess.
evile: yay, I'm done with today's quota with 15min (ish) to spare!
SkyeDS: rather than two hours :)
evile: yeah. better pacing. much.
SkyeDS: Mirage galloped the games this weekend. I was proud of her.
evile: that's cool :)
SkyeDS: you know she doesn't like the games at all, whereas Jez loves
them
evile: yeah, but Mirage lives to please you, so that was probably
motivation for her to do it.
SkyeDS: I wasn't riding her.
SkyeDS: I don't joust.
SkyeDS: not in front of people anyway. I've been known to run the
course bareback when everybody's finished and gone and nobody's
watching on occasion (but sure as hell not at faire).
evile: *nod8
SkyeDS: sineater w orked with her for a week and then sonar0m rode her
this weekend.
evile: cool
SkyeDS: it was too damn hot for the barding blankets.
evile: too damn hot for clothes, period :P
evile: a lot of people did it anyway...i love the smaller faires for
that reason--only the hardcore rennies come out and they're gonna
wear their garb if it kills 'em, dammit.
SkyeDS: nods.
SkyeDS: I have more elaborate chemises but I was going to be
comfortable dammit
SkyeDS: I have a black tribal skirt with a red sari strip across the
bottom and a gorgeous black chemise from holy clothing with awesome
drop silk sleeves, but Jubilee tells me it isn't brightly colored
enough to be Romany (and she's right to an extent) plus it's fuckin
hot
SkyeDS: but it still looks awesome.
evile: It'd be great if they could get Ravensloft scheduled and
organized in time to do in Feb or Mar.
SkyeDS: and a married phuri dai and shuvani would usually be much
older than me and would be allowed to wear black and red (as long as
it isn't blood red)
SkyeDS: looks like they're working on that, a nd working on mabank,
which is an excellent site.
evile: that'd be cool. Nice opportunity to wear cloaks & such
SkyeDS: and in Feb it wouldn't interfere with any other faire, s ince
we're going to be committed to Four Winds and Gulf Wars.
evile: yup
evile: well, time for me to take off.
SkyeDS: wind to your wings, wing sib
evile: See ya!
SkyeDS: ciao
