    Happy Birthday to Me!
So far, so good. I'm a firm believer in long celebrations, so I
started celebrating my birthday last night.

sineater, skye_ds and sonar0m took me to dinner. I got to hear about
their adventures with the SCA & their plans for the weekend. It was
    fun.

I'd been playing phone tag with onyxlynxx and left her a message
about my last minute dinner plans. She met up with us in the parking
lot as we were leaving the restaurant. She still hadn't eaten, and
knew of a place nearby that had Mangia Pizza and Ben & Jerry's right
next door to each other (future poly dinner location?) At Mangia's I
took a minute to call nikiyoy, and she sounded wretched. She was
feeling bad but she'd taken some medicine and hoped to feel better
soon. She said she'd call us if she got a second wind. Ms. Onyxx and
I shared an order of cheese sticks, I drank a beer, and she had
pizza. After Dinner #2, we went next door for ice cream. I could have
been virtuous and stuck with frozen yogurt, but, to quote a
friend "fuck that!" -- I went for the chocolate fudge brownie ice
cream. Yummy! Nikiyoy called while we were enjoying our ice cream,
and we met her at her place, then went to IHOP for Dessert #2. I got
coffee. It was, if possible, WORSE than the Coffee of Oppression at
work. And the waiter was...ick. Oh well, the company and conversation
more than made up for the atmosphere.

We had a great visit, which ended with sitting by the pool at
Nikiyoy's and talking about just about everything. We hit the highs &
the lows, made NAMBLA jokes about Disney Characters (they all have
nephews, but you never see their sisters!), planned pranks (anybody
wanna put on fangs and go to Midnight Mass at Xmastime?), talked
about family, friends, relationships, lovers, past hurts, future
hopes, who we want to be and who people think we are...it was just
amazing. I am so blessed to have these magical women in my life. They
wished me happy b-day at midnight & thankfully didn't sing too
    terribly much. It was great.

I took today off work. So today I slept in, did some shopping at
Mervyn's (Bra sizes are so bizarre. I just picked a range of __#__
and __letter__ and tried them on until I found a brand that fit in a
flattering way...I still have NO clue what actual bra size I wear)
and Hobby Lobby (found cute citronella candles for Monday), stopped
by Reubens to get stuff for my annual endless batch of Sangria, and
the guy at the liquor store sang me happy birthday. It was
embarassing, but very sweet. He's a musician when he's not a liquor
store clerk, and tonight he's playing at Mann's from 6-9, if anyone's
interested. If dinner doesn't run too late, I may try to stop by. He
was very nice & kinda cute, too. (What is it with me and liquor store
employees? There's another story for another day, ask me about it
sometime when we're having a few drinks.)

Now I am back home with the orange slices happily marinating in the
Sangria in the fridge, preparing for tomorrow's spa trip, and trying
to find out what the DPS did with my drivers license renewal I sent
them a month ago. It expires today!!

At 4, my aunt is picking me up for our 4:45 hair appointment. I plan
on walking across the street from the salon to Grapevine Market to
see if they have the 1970 Dows Vintage Port. My stepdad sent me a
check and told me I should get a bottle. (drinking wine my age! What
    a hoot!)

This evening is dinner with everyone and an early night, because
Tomorrow is Yoga with e. and onyxlynxx, an then e. and I are going up
to The Crossings for massages and such.

Sunday I am going to clean house, and maybe catch the new Star Wars
movie with sharjinka, and then Monday is another gathering of friends
& loved ones at our house.

A 5 day celebration for my 35th. How's that for awesome? I am so
incredibly grateful for all of the beautiful, wonderful people in my
life. I don't have anything if I don't have people to love, who love
me. Thanks, everyone! YOU are the best present I could have :)

Hey, glad to hear that your birthday is going better than you thought
it would a few days ago, and happy birthday! I was amused, there was
a little thingie on ICQ that popped up last night and said that your
    birthday was today. :)

I'd still be interested in joining you guys tonight, though I've not
sure if I'll eat or not. The financial situation looks less grim than
it did yesterday, and I haven't been out much lately, so we'll
see . . . but, at the very least, I could go to see you and
    socialize. :)

Friday evening, beli1728 and I went to bramblekite and
fungus_finger's birthday dinner at Mongolian Barbeque. We sat by gev
and maggiemaepisces. I only got a chance to talk with B. briefly but
it is nice to see her happy. I had a good talk with her aunt and
uncle who are also vegetarians. They seemed impressed that I could
get the cooks to hose down the grill and scrape all the gunk off.
They said that I was very assertive "in a nice way." I am glad they
thought I wasn't too pushy. I like their description. I am fairly
particular about what I want but I don't feel the need to be rude
    about it.

After dinner, Beli and I met cb and Meg for ice cream at Ben and
Jerry's. We chatted for a while and then headed home.

    crazy business

shortly after my last entry, Magiemaepisces and I swooped over and picked up Kai
    and
went fabric shopping at Wal*Mart. Hurray for late-night fabric
    hunting.
Afterward, we stopped by the 24/7 Starbucks and all ordered a tall
    cool one.
I went to hand the guy the plastic to pay and he mumbled something
    about
some thing being broken "they're free". bonus!

Today was a bit more relaxed after we finally got to sleep around 5.
Had a nice lunch at Tea HOuse, then went chocolate shopping for
    evilE's
birthday, went home and rested for a bit then we went to Mongolian
    BBQ for
E's birthday dinner, along with her sweetie, who shares her
    birthday.
Too cute for words. After that, we went to the Ben & Jerry's on Burnet
(just north of IBM) to get some CoffeeCoffeeBuzzBuzzBuzz. It seems
    that
all the quart lids for Ben & Jerry's in Texas are being dropped off at
the Round Rock store, because neither the 5th St store nor the Burnet
location have lids, but they do have the quart cups.

Meg and I continue to sail along... For whatever reason, I keep
    imagining
the 'inevitable' fight. Not that I want it to happen, but it's gotta
    happen.
    right?

Meg zonked out nearly as soon as we got home.
She's so cute, snoozin' away. :)

Sweetie wants to spend Mem. day weekend camping an/or toobing.

I don't know about the following weekend. It's the Voyagers party and
also another party that same night.

I am not sure how mobile I'm going to be. I think the only 1 of the
cars that's drivable by me may be about to give out. Since I don't

Seems the idea of some sort of communal life has been circulating
among several of my friends. Not that I'm really in a position to do
so (I don't think) but it still seems like a really cool idea, given
    the right neighbors.

One friend asked me what I thought about it, and I spoke my fears (I
will do all the work, pay for everything, and end up having to raise
kids I didn't make and don't want) rather than my hopes (being
surrounded by supportive friends, many people to create new things
with, neighbors you know, trust, and like, extra resources, being
able to share what I know and what I have with people who will
    appreciate and reciprocate)

My original concept (people in individual cabins with a central area
for dining, crafts, library, movies, etc.) is looking an awful lot
like what is being called cohousing. http://www.cohousing.org/

I am just wondering...what makes this able to happen? If a group
wanted to set up a childfree, or buddhist, or Catholic, or gay, or
Renfaire oriented community, what would stop someone from suing the
group for discriminating against them and forcing the community to
accept a childed family among the childfree, a pagan among the
Catholics, a straight among the queers? As it stands now, I believe
fair housing laws prevent conventional landlords from discriminating
on whatever basis. So how do cohousing groups get around anti-
    discrimination laws?

Because, seriously, I WANT to discriminate. I want to have lawful,
hard-working neighbors who share my lifestyle and views on life, or
else it'd be just like living where I do now, only I'd have to mow
their lawns and babysit their kids and shit.

Yup, I had a great time!

Friday we had dinner with a bunch of people at
Mongolian BBQ. I went to bed early (yoga the next a.m.
) and Sweetie went out drinking beer and such with folks.
They ended up at the Yellow Rose & Max got him a lap
    dance. Too funny!

Saturday I went to Yoga with e and then we drove
up to the Crossings for our spa day. Next time you're
here, we're definitely doing a day pass at The
Crossings--it's so nice up there. We booked too many
treatments for the amount of time we had; had to rush
through lunch and didn't get enough time sitting
around the hottub, swimming in the pool, etc. But
    we'll know for next time.

I got a salt scrub and a stone massage--the massage
was *wonderful*! The warm stones really helped the
muscles relax very deeply. The scrub was nice, but
nothing I couldn't have done myself for cheaper.

Then Sunday I mowed, weedwhacked, cleaned house, did
laundry, and went grocery shopping. Whee!

Tonight we're having people over for full moon and
fire in the backyard, and I'm afraid I over-extended
myself, got too ambitious on the menu etc, and now
it's stressy instead of laid back. But I know that the
difference is only in my perception. If I can just
settle down and breathe a while it'll be FINE and
everyone will have a nice time.

    Happy Monday! I'm so glad this is a short week;
everything about work annoys me today.

    great.
    SkyeDS: nods
evile: And I'm taking off the rest of the week after tuesday, so
    that'll be good.
SkyeDS: Prophet (Steve) invited us to investigate a group he's going

    evile: oh, cool.
SkyeDS: tue = fri works for me lol
evile: And then the office is closed Monday, so I have a 6 day
    weekend.
SkyeDS: lol you suck and I hate you :)
SkyeDS: (my new way of expressing envy)
    evile: Oh, ok then.
SkyeDS: it was ungodly hot and humid this weekend, I hope that
doesn't mean we're about to have a record scorcher summer
evile: it's possible. We did have a very mild winter.
evile: I am glad I didn't even think about going to faire last
    weekend...that would have been miserable.
evile: that's probably a big reason why I was so tired Saturday---
driving back and forth to the Crossings in the heat.
SkyeDS: reading bout that now. hot rocks sounds like excellent idea.
SkyeDS: I know they used to use hot bricks and mountains of blankets
to break fevers around the time of the civil war
evile: Oh, it was wonderful. The salt scrub I could definitely do on
myself, but the hot rocks are something you need to have someone else
place on you. It was really wonderful. Now that I knwo how its done,
I may get a set at ULTA or wherever for home.
SkyeDS: doesn't sound like a good fever treatment but does sound like
an excellent oh my god the zulu warriors in my abdomen are going to
    kill me treatment
evile: I don't get the horrendous cramps I used to, but I still do
get them a little. The big warm rock on my tummy was very very nice &
would be wonderful during that 'special' time, I'm thinkin.
SkyeDS: I'm thinkin that I'm agreein
SkyeDS: hot rocks, dark chocolate (macademia nuts optional) and red
    wine.
evile: Yum yum. BTW, they take the 'healthy' thing a little too
seriously at the Crossings, no wine while you wait for your spa
services. In that way, Body & Soul is a little nicer. :P
SkyeDS: when my MD and my OBG were going back and forth about my
    blood pressure
SkyeDS: I would pour three glasses of red wine into a blue water
    bottle.
SkyeDS: it looked like grape juice
SkyeDS: I drank it while sitting in the waiting room.
SkyeDS: (bad Skye, bad, yes I know...)
    evile: *shrug*
evile: I'm trying not to be stressy about it, but I'm just
curious...were you and/or sineater planning on stopping by this evening?
SkyeDS: not as far as I know. Not because we don't want to, but
because we are both so sleep deprived that we will do well to make it
    home straight from work :|
evile: OK. I can certainly understand that. I know it's a long drive.
SkyeDS: truthfully we should have stayed home all weekend and caught
up on sleep, and we didn't.
SkyeDS: we're both bad about doing what we damn well know we ought to
evile: But did ya have fun? that's the important part :P
SkyeDS: the moon was beautiful last night, that bodes well for
    tonight, I think.
    evile: *nod* I hope so.
SkyeDS: if it isn't too stressy, what I would like to do is see how I
feel at the end of the day, ask him how he feels, and go from there?
evile: OK. Call and let me know, if you get a chance & are near a
phone. If not, we'll see ya. And I will totally understand if you opt
for home & sleep, or just stop by to eat and run.
SkyeDS: should call home first or cell?
evile: I will be in the yard, more than likely. i'll try to remember
to have both phones where I can hear them if they ring. Try home
    first. :)
SkyeDS: <looks at own cell phone, looks guilty>
evile: I don't know why I get so worried/stressed. Sweetie says I always
    cook enough for Cox's Army.
SkyeDS: every time I make food I make too much
SkyeDS: I still think better to have too much than not enough
SkyeDS: although, never having had not enough, how would I know
evile: well, most of what I make is fine as leftovers, and I never
cook anything I don't like or won't eat.
SkyeDS: that makes me a kind of lousy secretary
SkyeDS: in terms of coffee making
SkyeDS: since I don't drink it
evile: Tonight will only be stressful and miserable if I *let* it. I
am going to just be calm and have a good time. The house isn't
spotless, the yard isn't perfect, but I know the food will be good
and the company will be lovely, and the moon will be beautiful.
    That's all we need.
SkyeDS: think about what my house looks like and you will
    automatically feel much better
evile: I haven't seen your new house. And, honestly, I really don't
care what other people's houses look like when I go over there, as
long as I"m not sitting/stepping in anything gross...i don't really
care. So I don't know why I get so freaked about my own house not
    being spotless.
SkyeDS: is a beautiful house even when it isn't spotless
SkyeDS: I want one just like it, but I couldn't find one like it
attached to land that I could afford, so I had to do what I could
    afford, for the horses
    evile: *nod*
evile: A house & land with lots of room for them to roam around, is a
    fine thing
evile: Land is always a good investment, anyway.
SkyeDS: nods. but I would have liked to have had a cooler
    house...like yours.
evile: *shrug* just because you can't have everything you want _right
now_ doesn't mean you wont' ever have it.
    SkyeDS: that's true :)
    evile: yup
evile: It's no biggie if you miss this month's; next month's is
Midsummer & D and Josephine will be here :)
    SkyeDS: :D
evile: I'm really excited that they're going to be in TX for the

year, starting Memorial Day. (we meaning aunt L and uncle B officially, me
    and Sweetie unofficiallly)

SkyeDS: HUGS wind to your wings :)
evile: Have a good evening, whatever you decide to do with it. Sleep
is sounding real good to me, personally :P

thewordnerd: Hey, sorry to hear about your party stress. :( I definitely
understand where you're coming from, which is why I'm starting to
dislike parties. I usually have lots of RSVPs and lots of no-shows.
evile: Yup. I had already decided I was never ever throwing another
party again, and the last few full moon gatherings were anywhere
between 3-7 people, nothing fancy, just hanging out...I got crazy
again and tried to make it into a big thing and it's making me
    unhappy.
evile: the worst of it is that the two biggest "maybes" are sineater and
his wife, and unfortunately it takes some effort for me to get into
the headspace I need to deal with them. If not properly braced (or
perhaps fortified with sangria) I won't be ready to deal with their
    shit.
thewordnerd: Ah. That's so frustrating. It's just common sense to me to
RSVP, and then to honor that RSVP by either showing or not, whichever
    you picked.
    thewordnerd: Ewww.
evile: Oh well. This will only suck if I remain in sucky headspace.
So I'm just going to relax, go home, lock up the cats, change into
party clothes, put out food & drinks, and let the evening happen as
    it will.
evile: I know there are at least 5 people coming, plus me and Sweetie.
Actually, I like a group about that size, because people can actually
    sit and visit.
thewordnerd: Good idea. :) Sounds like a fun time. I'd totally be there if
    I didn't have other plans.
evile: Well, I'm glad you have plans, anyway.
thewordnerd: How often do you make sangria? Any chance that I can try some
sometime? Just wanting a taste to put to the name, I don't want to
drain you dry or anything. :)
evile: Oh, this is the inaugural batch. I just keep adding to it all
summer and always have it in the fridge once the weather gets hot.
thewordnerd: Oh, heh, that's cool. :)
thewordnerd: And you keep it around all summer?
evile: yeah, it just gets better the longer you let it sit.
    thewordnerd: Oh, neat.
evile: My recipe is one I got from my friend J-Law and then modified a
bit. mix lemon juice and sugar until the sugar dissolves, put it in
your big Sangria bucket/pitcher/whatever. then add 1 bottle of nasty
white wine and one bottle of really bad red. Then add pulpless orange
juice, vodka, and triple sec, slice oranges and lemons and float on
top. Let it all sit for at least overnight, preferably longer
evile: occasionally I will use orange/pineapple/strawberry or pine-
    orange-banana or something like that.
thewordnerd: Damn, again that sounds good. I think I'm going to have to
keep a batch made too, once I can afford the ingredients. :)
evile: I have one of those 'sun tea' pitchers that I keep my sangria
    in.
evile: I think it's about a gallon and a half or so.
thewordnerd: Oh, wow, that's quite a bit. :) How strong of a drink is it?
evile: depends on how much vodka and triple sec you slosh in. For
me, it's situational. I put lots and lots when I was doing a picnic
and the rubber pig & spawn were invited.
thewordnerd: Ah, yes, probably a good idea in that instance. Ugh...
evile: And I think I took some of that same batch on the poly tubing
trip, which turns out to have been a good idea.
thewordnerd: Heh, yeah, I'd imagine so. Some of the stories I heard about
that trip sound like they're best experienced from the other side of
    an alcoholic haze.
    evile: heehee. Yup.
evile: That's a nice river, though, so hopefully we'll get down there
this summer with a better class of people :)
thewordnerd: Yeah, it sounds like fun. I'd definitely be interested in
    going.
    evile: I'll keep ya posted.
thewordnerd: And if a better class of people aren't there then we can wait
for them to start floating, then unleash the piranas(SP?).
evile: *laff* Too funny. You know the movie "pirahna" was filmed
    there, don't you?
thewordnerd: Then, once that whole situation has moved a good distance down-
    river, we can start.
thewordnerd: No, I didn't. Hmmm, synchronicity.
evile: *laugh* that makes it even funnier!
    thewordnerd: Indeed. :)
thewordnerd: So, yeah, they probably don't sell those at the petshop.
Unfortunate. That makes my job harder.
evile: maybe we could just keep one on a leash with a muzzle....
thewordnerd: Hmmm, good idea! And we can teach it 'fetch'.
evile: *laff* We can send it commands with an underwater fish whistle!
    thewordnerd: LOL
    evile: hehee! too funny :)
thewordnerd: Ooo, maybe we can teach it to dive for things in places where
people flip. A friend of my uncle's used to do that and come back
with bags of expensive sunglasses and such, and sell them.
    evile: Oh, how funny!
evile: I think I lost a pair of sunglasses that trip, come to think
of it. They were cheap, so I didn't care.
thewordnerd: Heh. Seems like it'd be a fun thing to try. I remember hearing
about all sorts of things that he'd dug up, though unfortunately I
don't remember what they were now, just that they surprised me.
    evile: I bet.
evile: if this past weekend is any indication, I know i want to spend
    the summer in the water!!
thewordnerd: Gah, I wonder if I'm stupid? I need to pay my electric bill,
but I don't have a bill itself, just the account number and an
amount. So I'm trying to find a number for the HEB near me to call
and ask if that's enough information to make a payment there, and
smartpages keeps saying that it can't find any in my region. Gah.
thewordnerd: Heh, me too. I really want to play in some of the swimming
    holes at Bull Creek.
evile: Me too. I need to find my good aquasox soon. I put them
    somewhere I wouldn't lose them I'm sure.
thewordnerd: I need to get some more. My last pair were stolen. :( I really
missed them, because I could wear them on the beach and the seal kept
    the sand off very nicely.
evile: *nod* I hate getting dirt and rocks in my shoes. ANd I hate
stepping on slimy icky stuff in bare feet, so I prefer to wear
soemthing in the water unless I'm in a pool.
thewordnerd: Understandable. They offer better traction when you *do* step
on the slimy stuff, too, which I like.
evile: yeah. bull creek has a couple of slippery paces
thewordnerd: So you have Wednesday-Friday off?
evile: Yes, I do. And I just found out that my new drivers license
ought to be at the p.o. box now, so I can drive without worrying
about being arrested. And maybe rent a car so I can drive out of town!
thewordnerd: Oh, nice. Glad that's taken care of. :)
evile: me too! It would be nicer if one of OUR cars was drive-able
out of town, but I told my friend Rio I'd be in SAn Antonio Friday to
see her, so that's what's gonna happen.
thewordnerd: Ah. Ugh, so you're completely out of cars?
evile: Sweetie seems to think that the blue trooper won't make it out of
town; I think I agree. It has a radiator leak.
    thewordnerd: Hmmm. That sucks. :(
evile: well, crap! Time snuck up on me. Time to run away! YAY!

thewordnerd: Ok, bye, have fun tonight! Don't get too stressed. :)
