1859 ICQ w/A

    Jan. 16, 2004

    SkyeDS: [offline] ciao bella
    evile: TGIF! :)
    SkyeDS: amen :)
evile: Looks like it's going to be messy and rainy all weekend,
    though :(
    SkyeDS: yep
evile: Oh well, if I decide to work some more OT tomorrow, it won't
    be such a major bummer.
SkyeDS: going to put in some time w/ Hugh Sunday because I didn't
    last night
evile: sounds good. Downtown parking on weekends is not bad at all.
    evile: (daytime, that is)
SkyeDS: he's on Nueces just S of 15th and has a parking lot, which is
    cool
evile: very cool. We've had people quit TWC because the parking
    situation is so bad. Wusses.
evile: Good news: Brother A's new job at the Budweiser warehouse starts
Monday, and Sweetie's phone interview this a.m. went well enough that
they want him to come in for a 2nd in-person interview :)
    SkyeDS: wtg :)
    SkyeDS: who's Sweetie iv'ing w/?
evile: Not sure, actually. ... all those companies have
    interchangable names. Net-web-vision-ware-co
SkyeDS: ERic worked for place called webvision for a while
SkyeDS: they keep reorging and changing their name
evile: I really don't remember the name at all. They all change names
frequently. When Sweetie was at jump.net they changed names 3 or 4 times.
evile: As long as there's a paycheck, I guess it doesn't matter what
    they call themselves.
SkyeDS: long as it don't bounce, amen
evile: *nods* Sweetie's only had trouble like that once, when he first
got here and was working for a small co. owned/run by a cokehead
    freak.
    SkyeDS: woohoo
SkyeDS: meetings for the next two hours
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: wish I'd gotten something to eat beforehand but too late now
SkyeDS: I'll eat when Sharon eats.
    evile: bummer.
evile: Meetings are a giant waste of time, unless the bigwigs are in
there and leave you outside to work in peace :)
SkyeDS: my fault, chose to do something else, thinking i'd be done in
time to grab something, but it didn't work out that way
    evile: s--t happens :(
SkyeDS: will probably be back before you leave, two hours of meeting
and then travel back to our building, BRB
    evile: have fun!

She was on a laptop & it crapped out, basically.

We talked about the GWNN party, her porn collection & why women wont'
kiss men after they go down on 'em & vice versa. bleh!

SkyeDS: back just in time to say good bye
evile: aww. Oh well. stupid battery!
SkyeDS: you have Monday off doncha
    evile: I sure do.
evile: Are you planning on doing anything in town Sunday besides
    working?
SkyeDS: not until somewhere between 3 and 5 pm
SkyeDS: somewhere in there I have to take the Baby home (Cedar
    Park/Leander)
evile: aha. Were you going to try and hit Drandmir or anything? It
might not be raining. But it will still be muddy, of course.
SkyeDS: I'm still pondering how I could do Drandmir on Sundays given
my other Sunday commitment, ie taking the Baby home.
SkyeDS: also, spend the night with Kaleon on Sun nite so that just one
day a week I don't have so far to drive to work.
evile: That makes Mondays more tolerable, I imagine.
SkyeDS: I could spend more nights there and save driving. But I
don't like being away from the rest of my family for that long at a
    time.
    evile: yup.
    SkyeDS: I need a secretary, I swear.
evile: or at least a really good calendar program/PDA

SkyeDS: Sharon loves her pda (it's a blackberry)
evile: I was going to suggest lunch or dinner on Sunday, but I don't
want to overrun you if you're already doing too much that day.
SkyeDS: lunch is probably doable, if it's a later lunch.
SkyeDS: I haven't finalized Sunday w/ Hugh yet
SkyeDS: I know he likes to get in and get out early when he pulls
    Sundays
    evile: I dont' blame him.
SkyeDS: but then I don't really want to meet him in the office @
    7:30 am either.
    evile: yucko. No s*it.
SkyeDS: but I only intended to commit to two hours anyway.
SkyeDS: so if he's going to be there at say 10, then I could leave at
    12?
evile: sure, unless you get in the middle of something and can't get
to a good stopping point. It happens.
evile: Do you want to pick a time & place now, or play it by ear on
    Sun?
SkyeDS: either way, makes no nevermind to me
evile: I haven't been to Chez Zee in ages. Want to go there?
SkyeDS: to be on the safe side you would probably rather I call you
as I'm on my way out the door/
SkyeDS: as far as picking a time.
SkyeDS: never been to Chez Zee so that will be an experience :)
    where is it? Arboretum no?
evile: That might be better :)
evile: Chez Zee is near where Mopac & 2222 meet, slightly North of
    there, Ithink.
SkyeDS: that works, matter of fact, it's halfway between Hugh's ofc
    and IBM lol
    evile:
    http://www.chez-zee.com/db.php3?id=83
SkyeDS: given that i have to take the Baby home I will probably have
    him with me tho :-0
    SkyeDS: :-/
evile: Does he have table manners? Or is there possibly a bookstore
or comic book place nearby you could leave him for an hour?
SkyeDS: Half Price Books yep yep
    SkyeDS: he has table manners
SkyeDS: not according to my Gramma of course
SkyeDS: I need to get a key from Kaleon so I can start ditching the
Baby there when I work on Sundays.
evile: Your call. He is not a bad kid & I have no objection to his
company, but if you'd rather just do 'girls brunch' that is fine with
    me, too.
evile: or else sonar0m needs to develop his network of friends in
Austin so that he can make his own fun and not depend on you so much.
SkyeDS: doesn't help that they've all moved or are moving
evile: eh, that's what college kids do.
SkyeDS: Robbie, Aeris, Travis, Bob & Phyl
SkyeDS: didn't used to be this complicated
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: used to be this armed neutrality where I met his parents half
way both on pickups and drop offs
SkyeDS: but that's a long story and it's time for you to skedaddle
evile: Well, maybe they'll work back up to that.
SkyeDS: from what they'vfe told the therapist I doubt it
    evile: suck.
SkyeDS: but there's change in the wind, and i"m going to win the war
with his parents, they just aren't smart enough to get it yet
SkyeDS: I have lost many battles, but I don't lose wars.
evile: The important thing is for sonar0m to find some peace, not for
anybody to 'win' or 'lose'. His parents need to respect his adulthood
and learn to let him go
SkyeDS: the therapist is a good one
SkyeDS: but they aren't listening to him
SkyeDS: they actively argue with him
evile: I am glad it's a good therapist. It takes time to change a
    lifetime of bad patterns.
SkyeDS: I don't understand why you would pay any professional to
advise you and then argue (doctor, lawyer whatever) but anyway
    evile: it's their money.
evile: And they really do think they are doing the best job they can
    at raising their kid.
SkyeDS: did I mention who opposing counsel is on this SCO lawsuit?
Davd Boies (Gore's FL lawyer - the one who went before the FL
Supremes in his Nikes, with his shirt and tie half undone)
    evile: cool, I guess.
    SkyeDS: kind of laughable
SkyeDS: I could have given better advice in FL and I'm just a lowly
    paralegal
evile: I know Gore was a big force in getting simpler language in
legal briefs & such. but I still think there's a level of decorum
when appearing as a professional in public that should be met.
SkyeDS: and Boies' team has made mistakes I wouldn't have made when I
was 19 in what they've filed with the court. Had I submitted such
things or suggested Tom did, I wouldn't still be in the paralegal or
secretary business, no one would hire me.
evile: I guess when you get famous you can afford to get sloppy.
evile: Oh well, I'm outta here soon. Holler at me Sunday re: time to
    meet you at Chez Z.
    SkyeDS: at home yes?
evile: I should be home, but you have both my home & cell #'s, right?
I think I gave them to sonar0m for his cell.
    SkyeDS: nodnod, got in email
SkyeDS: see yas Sunday :) travel safely
evile: cool. I will probably be sleeping in and having a mellow day
at home. See ya Sunday :) *hugs*
    SkyeDS: hugs

    me to J:

I am going to be here for soooo many more hours, I
don't even want to count them.

I did some math today and figured out that somehow
my take-home from OT ends up being less per hour than
my take-home from regular hours. I wonder how that
works, exactly? Math Is Hard. It almost seems like if I got
a raise on paper, I'd end up taking less of it home in
    the long run. :(

I hate being middle class and childless--I support EVERYONE.

    --- J-Law wrote:
Yeah, I was just thinking about that "we support
everyone" business. I think we should get giant tax
credits for not having kids - after all, we aren't
    sapping educational, medical, etc. resources.

Finally got done with the stupid calendar. Took me
nearly three hours of otherwise billable time.

Katie and I are on for Boulevard on Feb. 4. Very
    much looking forward to it.

Math is very hard. I try not to do it. When I do
have to do it and accuracy matters, I make a little
    Excel spreadsheet. :)

There's a new Dem. candidate--Clark, Craig? some name
like that. His platform is basically "if you spawned,
you don't pay"...I would rather vote for Shrub again.
Seriously. WTF?!? There really _ought_ to be
incentives for people who work and pay their fair
share of taxes and don't add any drains to the system.
But that'll never happen in this 'for da chuylllldrun'
please-the-breeders day & age. Feh.

UB and I are doing brunch at Chez Zee Sunday. She
may or may not bring 'the Baby' (what she calls
sonar0m, isn't that cute/sick?)... I told her it was
totally her call, that I didn't mind him, but that if
she wanted to drop him at a bookstore for an hour
while we eat & visit, that would be fine with me, too.

Why I do these things to myself, I'll never know...

She *did* say the first unselfish thing I've ever
heard her say via ICQ yesterday: she wants to buy the
land next door in order to build another house so that

her mom, dad & sineater's mom have someplace to come &
live when they're old and need to be taken care of. I
thought that was very altruistic and nice. But I'm
sure there's some dark side to it, like she wants them
to sign over their retirement/SSI/Disability checks to
her or something in exchange for her care. That's
just me being nasty, though. Maybe she really *is*
trying hard to turn over a new leaf & be a decent
person. I'd really like to think that.

Oh well. 1 hour and 2 minutes until I am outta here.
Haven't committed 100% to working OT tomorrow. I
really HATED the first/last/only saturday OT I did
when the security guy harassed me up one side and down
the other. asshole.
