    SkyeDS: how was your weekend?
evile: quiet. But good. The wedding was beautiful.
    SkyeDS: :)
    evile: how about you?
SkyeDS: I'm going to write an autobiography and call it Comedy of
    Errors :)
SkyeDS: we got there Friday, beautiful day. Boys packed no chairs,
    forgot Arthur's cage.
evile: You would have loved the vows, BTW. They used some quotes from
Mercedes Lackey & from that really nice bible verse about "love is
    kind," etc.
    SkyeDS: from 1 Cor 13.
SkyeDS: the only nice thing Paul ever wrote.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I love those verses btw
SkyeDS: but then some scholars say that everything in the bible
attributed to Paul was not Paul. Taylor Caldwell wrote an excellent
biography of Paul called Lion of God
SkyeDS: got to site, to discover flat tire.
SkyeDS: do we have spare, yes
    SkyeDS: spare is original spare
SkyeDS: so it is ont same size as the new hauling tires.
SkyeDS: so I can't haul on it.
SkyeDS: nor can I haul on old tire with just fix a flat
    evile: yuck!
SkyeDS: I can however, put on spare, send boys to Discount Tire
relatively nearby, leave tire Saturday, pick it up Sunday, no big
    right?
SkyeDS: so Saturday morning I wake up because my face is wet
SkyeDS: this is because it's raining
evile: Yeah, I wondered how y'all were on Saturday--wet and COLD!
SkyeDS: so while it's just barely sprinkling, I send the boys out to
    put the saddles up
evile: Did the event still happen, or did it get cancelled?
SkyeDS: so the tent is not waterproof
SkyeDS: and in nthe meanwhile, we have dozens of pillows
SkyeDS: and for the three ofus, the boys pack three pillows
    evile: all wet! ooh, yucko!
SkyeDS: knowing because of my neck I need two
SkyeDS: and of the three pillows, two of them are my antique
    featherpillows
SkyeDS: this after I told them why we weren'nt taking the feather BED
SkyeDS: Saturday I spent cold, wet and in pain because my neck did
not like the sudden very cold weather on top of all the wet, even
with my collar and my med.
    evile: I bet not :(
SkyeDS: sineater got us stuck, truck and trailer, i nthe mud, twice
SkyeDS: but other than nthat we had a really good time :)
    evile: good.
SkyeDS: and my lesso failed to show up so I rushed home for nothing.
evile: suck! Sunday was beautiful, though, wasn't it?
    SkyeDS: aye it was
evile: Were the SCA folks nice?
SkyeDS: this was in Huntsville at Ravensfort on a private ranch and
they had a miniature scale of stonehenge
    evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: nice in na way hfs can't understand
    evile: heh.
evile: Probably because the majority of HFS are teenagers, and the
    majority of SCA are adults.
SkyeDS: groups of one or two dozen people got together every time
    someone needed pushing
SkyeDS: which was most of us
    evile: nice.
SkyeDS: I told people before they started calling tow trucks
SkyeDS: that the only trucks that could get in and out would be Semi
Flatbeds with 100 foot wenches in back
    SkyeDS: but nobody listened
    evile: Oh well.
SkyeDS: so the first 3 companies came out, got stuck, barely got
    themselves out and left
SkyeDS: sineater and I took a joyride out to the Tor, and when we came
back, lo and behold there was the semi flatbed with the 100 foot
    wench
    evile: there ya go.
SkyeDS: I got an email over the weekend about work at home legal
positions so I took half a day to investigate them
SkyeDS: will work an extra hour rest of week to make up for
SkyeDS: MRI on neck Thursday, :-/
    evile: *fingers crossed*
SkyeDS: my contributions to this weekend's mishaps were that despite
a lifetime of camping I did ont think to pack extra socks
    evile: it happens.
SkyeDS: nor did I think to pack longjohns (May ya know)
SkyeDS: nor did I check the weather forecast
SkyeDS: although that wouldn't have changed our plans
SkyeDS: I would have thought to reserve a motel room i advance
    evile: hee. I hear ya.
SkyeDS: the rain wouldn'nt have been so bad by itself
SkyeDS: but it was a deluge and it was COLD
evile: yeah. the cold was very shocking.
SkyeDS: so where are erinlefey and tangentsferret now in terms of their sundry
    legal/work battles?
    evile: They're on their honeymoon.
evile: They have a marriage license in the state of CA. I think that
    is where it's still at.
SkyeDS: I have no clue about the validity of that in TX at all <shrug>
evile: Hetero marriages don't seem to have a problem crossing state
    lines.
SkyeDS: that's because Federal and TX Doma do'nt interfere with Full
    Faith and Credit Clause
evile: I think they decided to have their ceremony, enjoy their party
& have a nice honeymoon before they get back to the fussin' and
    feudin'.
SkyeDS: fed & state DOMA are unconstitutional pieces of BS, but they
stand until a federal court knocks them down.
SkyeDS: don't blame them, I suspect they will have lots of fussin and
    feudin, it isn't going anywhere.
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: besides, there are lots of ways to get around the marriage
    issue
    evile: sure.
SkyeDS: could form a business partnership, which legally is exactly
    like a marriage
SkyeDS: or a corporation, or an LLC
evile: I think the point they want to make is that they shouldn't
HAVE to do any of that shit, any more than 2 married hets have to do
    it.
    SkyeDS: of course not
SkyeDS: the gov should recognize domestic contracts, not marriages,
period. but it isn't happening. yet.
evile: Personally, I think the government needs to fully QUIT
sanctioning lifestyle choices by offering financial incentives for
    one choice over another.
SkyeDS: I refer to that as social engineering ad I completely agree
evile: Married? fine, pay your taxes. Kids, fine, pay your taxes.
SkyeDS: but I don't think it should stop there
evile: Married to 3 other people? Fine, each of you pay your taxes.
SkyeDS: public school = social engineering
    SkyeDS: taxpayerfunded public school anyway
SkyeDS: vice law = social engineering
SkyeDS: you want to do drugs in your livign room, I think you're
    stupid but I don't give a dam
SkyeDS: you do somethign outside of your house to hurt me
    SkyeDS: that's ALREADY illegal anyway
evile: and public school is falling down thesame slippery slope as
SSI. SSI was for retirees. Period. Then they started making it pay
disabled folk and this and that, and now it's going to be bankrupt by
    the time I'm 63
SkyeDS: long time before that, I suspect
    SkyeDS: it's a Ponzi scheme
SkyeDS: Ponzi was jailed for it
evile: Public schools used to be to teach the three r's, now its got
to teach children basic social niceties, AND feed them, and take care
of their health, and whatever else ..

the gov already pays private corporationsn to do its work for it
    SkyeDS: like the IRS
    SkyeDS: like most of Defense
SkyeDS: so why not privatize public schools
    SkyeDS: outsource if you will
evile: On the theory that it's cheaper/more cost effective to
privatize, which ha not proved to be the case.
evile: Every politician has his/her favorite pork project & they make
sure tons of our money is wasted on it.
SkyeDS: there are shipping/mail delivery companies that are private
that are much cheaper/better at what they do tha the post office
evile: sure, but there are, what, 3 Fed Ex offices and 2 UPS offices
in town, vs. how many post offices? With most gov't things youv'e got
the whole quantity vs quality thing going on.
evile: My agency may not be the most effective, BUT it's the only one
that has the infrastructure/reach to do what we do, even as halfass
    as we do it.
SkyeDS: I don't hear people complaining about Tex WF Com as much as
    about public school failings
evile: That's because only 1/6 of TX population goes through TWC
fuckwittage, whereas theoretically 100% of TX population goes thru
    public school at some point.
evile: Also, your background & experiences have made you more
sensitive to school issues. Whereas mine make me more aware of TWC
problems & our program as it stacks up to other states'.
SkyeDS: do you know, if I were Italian citizen, I could come over
here, work on a visa for say five years, file for some sort of
entitlement like disability or social security adn go home to Italy
and collect taxpayer funded checks the rest of my life?
    evile: interesting.
SkyeDS: and this is common knowledge in most foreign countries.
    evile: hm.
SkyeDS: particularly as you know, Mexican illegals.
evile: I don't think any country has things 100% right as far as
balancing their workers, social programs, etc.
SkyeDS: who have always had full access to taxpayer funded services
in California, and just recently in Texas.
evile: CA is usually a leader when it comes to trends, both political
    & social.
SkyeDS: considering the wacked out shape of their laws, that's not
    good.
    evile: nope.
evile: I say tighten the borders 'til they squeak OR get all the
illegals to become citizens & start paying taxes like everyone else.
But there is too much for the rich assholes to gain by keeping things
    just as they are.
SkyeDS: some say we should put the military on the 6000 miles of
unprotected border (both Mex & Can)
    evile: sure.
SkyeDS: problem is, military AREN"T trained to border patrol during
    peace time
SkyeDS: they're trained to break things and kill peoiple
evile: and why can't they BE trained?
SkyeDS: so unless we're ready to start shootig them for swimmig nthe
    river.
SkyeDS: which personally wouldn't bother me.
evile: because theres more $$ and political points for someone to
leave things just as they are.
SkyeDS: they do jobs we won't do
SkyeDS: no matter how much we complain about unemployment
    evile: exactly.
evile: Looks/sounds like we missed a good Voyagers Party :(
    SkyeDS: what happened?
evile: Nobody's giving any details, just saying how much fun they
    had.
    SkyeDS: oh well.
SkyeDS: the site this weekend was completely primative
SkyeDS: no running water, it was all in barrels
    SkyeDS: no showers
    SkyeDS: no enclosed feast hall
    evile: fun.
    SkyeDS: everythig was brought in
SkyeDS: $5, for gate and feast
SkyeDS: and more people there than at CRW
SkyeDS: (and it wasn't even a CRW type event)
evile: wow...that's a lot of work for somebody(s)
    SkyeDS: err $15 I meant
SkyeDS: so why, if that works for a large group like the SCA, I'm
wonderinng, should I bust my ass for the HFS to use my place
SkyeDS: I'll get the porta potties
SkyeDS: they can use my electricity ad water
SkyeDS: but they can bring their own damn portable showers
    evile: seems reasonable to me.
SkyeDS: and if they do'tn like that, go back to a SP
SkyeDS: or do what I intend to do as a busienss expense anyway, which
is ivnest in a solar kit that icludes a tent stall for $25
SkyeDS: (which is quite adequate for 3 people)
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: and vendors come to SCA events
    SkyeDS: many of them
    SkyeDS: with great stuff
    evile: awesome.
SkyeDS: now I'm even more inclined to thikn the HFS should just get
    over its bad self
    evile: yup
evile: I can see the attraction for HFS to HS age people, but I don't
see why the old timers stay, rather than 'graduate' to SCA.
SkyeDS: only reason I stay is because I have friends there, that may
    be it
SkyeDS: and I'm not making any great effort to see those friends now,
except when I'm not doing somethign else more important
    evile: exactly
SkyeDS: tell you something else about the showers
SkyeDS: I didn't notice any SCA knights taking showers after combat
SkyeDS: adn they were all in full armor
SkyeDS: beating on each other harder, with more harmful weapons, than
    HFS fighters
SkyeDS: so why does the HFS get so bunged up about showers.
    evile: ew, stink!
evile: I don't mind fresh sweat, but if one of those knights wanted
to dine or bed down with me he better fuckin' bathe...
SkyeDS: lol and he could have bathed, if he'd drawn a bucket of water
    from the water barrels
SkyeDS: it wouldn't have been a "nice hot shower"
SkyeDS: but he would be clean
evile: I prefer not to do the primitive camping thing. If I was
interested enough in the event/friends to see there, I would deal and
    not whine.
evile: We camp at TRF every year with no showers (unless Rengeek sets
    his up)
evile: But I don't like to go into faire on Sunday, I prefer to drive
home an d take a nice hot shower.
SkyeDS: my guess is, if you were going to go to an event
SkyeDS: and it was all that important to you to havea hot shower
SkyeDS: instead of a lukewarm or whatever bath
SkyeDS: that you would get a hotel room
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: or ivnest in a field shower
SkyeDS: the solar powered ones are quite inexpensive
evile: well, some people would rather just whine I guess.
evile: I say let 'em, but no reason to hang out listening to it.
evile: (why I quit all pagan associations)
SkyeDS: nnext time I talk to Gabriella, I'll just tell her, look, let
    people invnest in field showers
SkyeDS: but I"m not going to
SkyeDS: I don'tn want to make a profit
SkyeDS: I don't want to go innto the event business
SkyeDS: if ya'll want to use my place such as it is, fine
SkyeDS: but I'm not in the event business, and the site is semi
    primitive.
evile: Yup. Let her know what you've got and when it's available, and
if she wants to take you up on it, great, if not, great.
evile: The UT informal class schedule came out Friday. There's about
a half dozen things I wanna take.I can maybe afford 2.
evile: One of the classes was Party Planning 101, I thought of you.
SkyeDS: that's usually how that goes, no?
SkyeDS: I saw that, thank you :)
evile: It might even be something I could benefit from, it would be
nice to figure out how to throw a party without tossing down a grand
    or more every time...
evile: Not that I begrudge the cost, I love to feed & entertain my
freinds & loved ones, but when 1 party costs that much, I can't
afford to do them as often as I would like.
    SkyeDS: <jaw on floor>
evile: I save the receipts, I'm not kidding.
SkyeDS: I didn't think you were.
evile: Back in my Bookstop days, I threw some good parties and they
were not nearly that expensive. But they were alot smaller, and there
was basically food and drink, nothing in the way of decor. So...yeah,
    it can be done.
evile: X was always pestering "Oh, we should have a party EVERY
month!" (We meaning ME.) heh. What a nut.
SkyeDS: "what's this we shit paleface?" ~ Tonto
    evile: heh. yup.
SkyeDS: one night I was loadingn up to go to the park, and the park
    ended up coming to me
SkyeDS: that was kind of cool
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: I think I could enjoy having parties on occasion
    evile: absolutely.
SkyeDS: think what I'll do for my birthday is post to various places
saying hey, I'm going to have my birthday at lake somerville
SkyeDS: I'm going to take my garb, and cook
SkyeDS: ya'll hang out, or not
    evile: sounds good.
SkyeDS: I will enjoy somerville with or without company I think
evile: The key being that you're doing something you think is fun,
anyway, with or without the company. heh. exactly.
evile: If I was suddenly independently wealthy, this would be my
life: traveling and throwing parties with themes & decor from the
    places I'd just visited
evile: If I knew the right rich people (and could stand to be around
them) I could probably parlay my enjoyment of travel & partying into
a job...but that's not gonna happen. "do what you love and the money
will follow" does not apply to travel & parties.
SkyeDS: unless you were going to freelance write
    SkyeDS: for travel pubs
SkyeDS: and I do'nt know if that would pay bills or not
    evile: exactly.
SkyeDS: saw lots of openings for various freelance writers today
evile: I don't think I could be comfortable doing that as my 'main'
vocation. Maybe a part time sideline kind of thing.
evile: I'm much too security minded...maybe once I get my finances a
little better, have my store of 'fuck you money' squirreled away, I
will be more inclined to take chances.
