If you run a family business with a narcissist as his spouse, will the narcissism reduce for the sake of his business interest?

No. Having a narcissist in the family business will mean that other family members will work hard and do as good a job as they can, taking up the slack for the narc's lazy useless ass. Meanwhile the narcissist will be busy bragging about their "self-made" successful business on social media, or delivering a tedious monologue to the customers about how hard the narc works, and how the company would go under without their expertise.

The narc will tell everyone that s/he is the brains and the money and the talent and the experience behind all the company’s success, and that the other family members are incompetent fools who would run it into the ground if King/Queen/President/CEO/CFO Narcy wasn’t there to do everything and fix everything and tell everyone else how to do their jobs. They actually believe that load of horses*it, too.

They will tell the customers and their social media followers that they are the best, smartest, most experienced, hardworking, & talented person in the world and put on a good show of it, but the reality is that they are lazy, useless leeches. And to top it all off, they’re probably dipping into the petty cash and business accounts and spending it on themselves & their bad habits, too.

Do NOT go into business with a narcissist family member. Be very careful, in general, doing anything that mixes money and family.

You don’t know anything real about anyone you only know through social media, so you are right to take everything you read online with a grain of salt.

If you have dealt with a narcissist in real life, you may develop a sort of ‘spidey sense’ that tells you when a person’s online persona seems “off” or ‘fake’ —some signs may include having thousands of friends in social media ('friend-farming'), posting tons of selfies, posting memes about being a 'crazy bitch' or  'wine mommy,' lots of spiritual/feel good/quotes from famous people as opposed to actual stuff about their real life, cognitive distortions such as ‘all or nothing’ type thinking, never admitting to flaws or mistakes, never apologizing for being in the wrong or hurting someone else’s feelings, seeing themselves as a victim and others as the perpetrator in every misfortune, etc.

Trust your instincts and do not engage with people who set off your spidey sense. If you read something online that seems helpful or resonates with you, feel free to integrate that advice or knowledge and use it as you see fit, but don’t give your time, attention, or especially money , to people who seem untrustworthy. If something seems fake, false, or untrustworthy, then trust your instincts and move along away from that person.
