RIP Mirage
Oct. 22nd, 2021 01:08 pmFound out that my SIL Skye_ds' "heart horse" Mirage died. She was about 30 years old, she was the first horse they bought together after she married my brother Sineater. She was an Arabian of some type, so they do live a long time and there are anecdotes about Arabians remaining sound and still participating in dressage and stuff when they are in their 20-30s.
I remember one day back when I was still on decent terms with them, I went out to go riding with Sineater. He was on his horse Jesse who was some kind of Morgan or Morgan cross--very strong, very smart, very fast. I was on Mirage. It seems like we were finishing up our ride, Jesse took off towards the barn and Mirage decided it was a good idea to run and catch up. I felt myself get off-balance and knew I was going to come off. I wasn't able to right myself or get her to slow or stop. It seemed like forever that I was like that, but it couldn't have been more than two or three strides and I was on the ground, hurt and stunned to the point where I couldn't move for a bit. Mirage stopped short, came back, gave me a sniff to be sure I was still alive and then continued her romp after Jesse. It was almost like I could hear her say "you're fine, dumb pink monkey, rub some dirt on it and walk it off,"
She was a decent and kind horse, patient with the stupid pink monkeys. I'm sad she's gone and I know that my SIL and brother are hurting.
Anyway, a funny memory that sums up her personality pretty well, I think. Jesse is long gone. I hope they are both having a great run wherever good horses go.
