My father died this morning. I dreamed about him last night. I said ' when you die, a part of me will die with you. But part of you will live with me and you'll get to do the things that you wanted to do '

He got a 3-6 month prognosis at the end of 2010, and he beat that by a mile. I'm sad that he fought so hard and hurt so much but that is what he wanted to do. He isn't hurting anymore

If you talking about "arrangements" I have no idea. If he has a lawyer talk to him about Last Will and Testament. There will be probate and "Next of Kin" stuff so you might need your own lawyer.

I'm pretty sure that his sister, my aunt C. probably pinned him down on all of that. He wanted so much to live and beat this thing, but I hope she convinced him that getting things in order was not necessarily so much admitting defeat but accepting that it will happen, someday, to all of us, and hopefully not any time soon...

Being a veteran, a lot of the funeral arrangement stuff is pretty easy; just call the VA and they know who to call and what to do. He will be buried in his uniform and sent off with full military honors.

I need to give a call to the texas prepaid legal folks and see about getting my stuff in order, come to think of it. Hell, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow. There aren't any guarantees in life...

As far as "stuff" goes, he gave me a couple of things that he really wanted me to have, and I'm glad to have them, but I don't really want or need anything else and I don't plan on being ugly or nasty or greedy or grabby like so many people seem to do when someone passes. It's a lesson learned rather late in life for me, but I really don't care for 'stuff' so much as doing things and going places and creating shared memories with people I care about.

"Stuff" also refers to his bank accounts, life insurance, properties, vehicles, firearms, stocks/bonds, etc.

yeah...I don't care about any of that stuff. he has a surviving sister, brother in law, neice, nephew, and niece's 3 kids to distribute all that amongst. I will be glad to assist when it's time to declutter and excavate the house from my grandmother's years of hoarding, but I don't want any of that stuff.
