evile: There you are :) How was your weekend?
    SkyeDS: nice day Saturday
SkyeDS: Sunday I worked four hours and then we sought out the few
places we can take Arthur in the rain
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I suppose we should have just gone to Central Market, but we
headed up to PFChangs where I know they have a covered patio and it's
easier to stay on my diet
SkyeDS: and we've eaten at PFChang's with Arthur in Dallas so we
    didn't think anything about it
SkyeDS: we are the only people on the porch and it's raining
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: everyone was lovely except for the asshat -excuse me,
assistant manager-who insisted that we leave because of the health
    code
SkyeDS: so we left, and sineater took the cell phone
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: called and said, we left because you asked, but we just want
you to know, we both know the health code because we've been in the
business a long time (him - catering, me law)
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: and that's bullshit and we'll bring the code to you and show
    you it's bullshit
SkyeDS: so just so that you understand, we're respecting your private
property rights, and calling you on your bullshit at the same time
SkyeDS: because we are not the great illiterate unwashed masses and
you can't just throw your mistaken understanding of law around at us
    evile: there ya go.
SkyeDS: so then he says "company policy"
SkyeDS: and sineater goes off again
SkyeDS: I didn't bother to stop him
SkyeDS: it can't be company policy if other locations don't have the
    same policy
SkyeDS: "and which stores would those be"
SkyeDS: like we're telling you so you can stir shit? we think not.
SkyeDS: so anyway, sineater told him we would be discussing this with
    corporate ourselves
SkyeDS: in the meanwhile we go to Tino's, which is owned by the owner
of Zorba's, which I love dearly
SkyeDS: Tino's is on 183/Anderson Mill and also has a covered patio,
and also allows me to stay on diet (better than Chinese even actually)
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: the owner himself brings his family out to visit with us
after respectfully waiting until our plates are clean and letting us
    eat
SkyeDS: and mentions that he's seen us at Zorba's before - good memory
SkyeDS: particularly since at Zorba's I'm in business clothes and
Sunday I'm in shorts and a tshirt
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: Hobby Lobby not being open on Sundays we went to a hancock
fabrics where I bought $50 worth of fabric on impulse we didn't need
evile: oh well, I'm sure you'll find something to do with it.
SkyeDS: and then we went to the Half Price up there, where sineater
bought $70+ worth of stuff and me $60
    evile: cool :)
    SkyeDS: how was yours?
evile: Pretty good. I made gumbo, hurricanes, CDM coffee & beignets
and watched movies set in NOLA Friday night, Sweetie & I went to San
Antonio SAturday and hung out with Rio, D, and Rio's husband, and
then Sunday we slept in and did nothing.
    SkyeDS: how was SA?
evile: Nice. We went to the McNay, then to Denny's for old times
sake, and swam in the pool at Mike & Rio's new apts.
SkyeDS: Salado is a lovely little town
    evile: It really is
SkyeDS: wouldn't be any further away from work for sineater than it is
now, and only further away for me because I have shortcuts where we
are now that don't involve the interstate
SkyeDS: this weekend is going to be a blast
SkyeDS: little to no ballet, all joust and pony rides
SkyeDS: and the faire people are way cool
evile: cool. I'm bringing [cousin B] to faire on Saturday.
SkyeDS: you probably don't have any more faire stuff you want to get
rid of -- but on the offchance that you do, bring it and put it in
    our booth?
evile: Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass :)
evile: We are probably going to yoga first, and then maybe brunch,
before we head to Salado. I don't really wanna do any actual *work*.
I just wanna visit with folks & wander.
    SkyeDS: the site is beautiful
evile: I've only been once. It was hot & dusty when I went, but still
    had a lot of potential.
SkyeDS: Stephanie is bending over backwards to give us everything we
    could possibly want.
SkyeDS: and I get new ideas faster than I can write them all down
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: we're going to set up the entire game course and let the
boys "compete" against each other as the white and black knights
SkyeDS: and as I was trying to figure out who should win, should they
take turns, should the audience choose, how to work it
    SkyeDS: it occurs to me
SkyeDS: pick a little girl from the audience, put the wings, the
crown on her and give her the wand
SkyeDS: make her the "fairy princess" and let her choose the winner
evile: getting the audience involved is always a good idea; kids are
    pretty natural for that :)
SkyeDS: they're doing Hamlet, so the stage already has thrones on it
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I want to get a 24" by 36" piece of cardboard so sineater can
    make a dragon target
    evile: that's a cool idea :)
SkyeDS: can use it for javelin and for archery
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: we'll be performing right in front of where the SCA is doing
    their demos
SkyeDS: so unless she takes herself elsewhere Karen can just sit and
watch us do what we do best and not a thing she can do or say about it
SkyeDS: ::childish:: so t here nyah :P~~~
    evile: hee. yup.
evile: I need to figure out what [cousin B] is going to do for garb. I was
going to make a pair of wrap pants & I had ordered a shirt from
greycat designs, but they haven't shipped it yet. She was very nice
and very sorry, but that doesn't fix the problem...
SkyeDS: if borrowing from Sweetie was an option you'd have already
considered that - how bout borrowing from sonar0m or sineater?
SkyeDS: another option - find out who has the newbie loaner garb for
Drandmir and borrow from t hat?
SkyeDS: see what Thax may have made up?
    evile: maybe. Good ideas.
evile: I'd been meaning to get [cousin B] out to Drandmir one of these
Sundays, have him make some friends his own age.
SkyeDS: imho, last resort would be a trip to party pig
SkyeDS: I know places already have their halloween stuff out
    SkyeDS: http://www.saras.com/
SkyeDS: this is where Hugh stays when in Houston. I want to try it
    out sometime. Non sequitur, sorry.
evile: I noticed that this weekend, lots of places with Halloween
stuff out. Hobby Lobby was already putting out xmas shit...this was
in August when my mom was visiting!
SkyeDS: the hancocks we went into yesterday on 183/AM had out a very
    nice period dress
evile: There's a lot of cool patterns out now.
SkyeDS: bought some purple silky type fabric with silver moons and
stars and such all over it
SkyeDS: and some red panne and some Arthur blue panne
    evile: cool.
SkyeDS: I find that a decent sized square of panne with a neck slit,
if it's big enough to wear belted, doesn't even have to have the
sides stitched to make a decent tabard.
    SkyeDS: or tunic.
evile: it's going to be 95 and humid this weekend, I'm going to see
what I can come up with in cotton
SkyeDS: nods. I have no doubt that with very little time you'll come
    up with a kickass t-tunic/tabard :)
    evile: eh, we'll see.
evile: hopefully some of the summer fabrics are on sale now.
evile: Maybe I'll teach [cousin B] how to sew...might curb some of those
brat tendencies if he's more self-sufficient.
    SkyeDS: maybe so
evile: He's basically a good person, but [aunt L] & [uncle B] do so much for
him, and it's easy to get spoiled.
    SkyeDS: nods.
evile: He & I had a talk about that this past weekend. I think it
    hurt his feelings....I felt bad.
    SkyeDS: "|
    SkyeDS: err, :|
evile: I'm sure that it's an offshoot of my own issues...but
reeallly....these parents/parent substitutes do not do their boy-
children & future mates of said boy-children ANY favors by teaching
them that someone else is going to cook & clean for them so they
    shoudn't bother with it.
    SkyeDS: nope
SkyeDS: when I was in school I didn't see any point in taking home ec
SkyeDS: my mom and gramma took care of that as long as I could
    remember
SkyeDS: ie teaching me that stuff I mean
SkyeDS: I would have taken shop if I had had the time
SkyeDS: and vice versa, shop is something most boys get from their
    dads at home
SkyeDS: they should take home ec
evile: I think it's a good idea for everyone to get out of HS knowing
how to cook a few basic dishes, WASH a few basic dishes, do laundry,
keep a clean house, do some basic carpentry, electric, and car
maintenance. Also, balance checkbooks & read bank statements &
    paychecks.
    SkyeDS: nods.
SkyeDS: my first husband didn't know how to make a bed. I kid you
    not.
    evile: sad.
SkyeDS: he tried to cook by himself one night when I wasn't home.
    SkyeDS: he burned *water*
SkyeDS: in one of my antique pans.
    evile: thats' just awful.
SkyeDS: he wants a beautiful trophy wife who's also brilliant and
also will be holly homemaker and cater to his royal majesty's every
    whim
    SkyeDS: good fuckin luck
    evile: that's too sad.
evile: [cousin B] is a sweet kid, and he's not ungrateful or a jerk or
anything, but when people are just doing for you, it's easy to get
into the habit of being passive and not doing for yourself or
    pitching in to help them.
    SkyeDS: nods.
evile: When I stayed w/L&B in the summers, I'd practically have to
hide my laundry to keep [aunt L] from doing it.
evile: And [aunt L] doesn't let anyone else cook in her house. But he
could pitch in with dishes afterwards.
SkyeDS: that's the rule in my house, whomever cooks does not do
    dishes.
evile: *nod* That's the way it was when we lived in the Big House,
    too.
evile: well, I got here a little early today, so I'm going to take
    off :)
SkyeDS: wind to your wings :D
evile: have a good evening ;)
