Make it hurt when they don’t. Allow them to experience the full consequences for their behavior. Make them afraid. That is the only way they will comply. Every single time they do a single thing, even a very small thing, to violate the orders, document and report it. They don’t know respect, they only know fear. If they know they can get away with abusing you, they will do it. Be consistent. Be firm. Do not be moved by tears, by apologies, by gifts, by messages sent through friends or family members (flying monkeys who eat their poop!) about how they have ‘changed’ and they want to ‘prove’ to you that they are better.
They test boundaries like a child being told to go to bed….they sneak out, they peek out, they want one more story, they want a drink of water, they want the light on, they cry, they’re afraid, they are angry, they want the light on, they want the light off…they just keep pushing and testing to see what they can get away with. Don’t let them get away with a single thing.
Every time they test with something ‘small’ or ‘harmless’ put the fear of god into them by calling down the full force of authority down upon their heads. Every. Single. Time. Without. Fail. Don’t flinch, don’t let them get away with a single thing. Make them pay every time they cross the line. They will go on to easier prey eventually.
