Is a narcissist for once not being narcissistic a form of manipulation? My covert narc has acted extremely respectfully towards me after an episode of rage.

You say ‘for once’ in your question and I really keyed in on that. You know the answer to this question, and you know better. But, at the same time, by asking this question, you are showing that your heart has hope for change.

Narcissists do not change. They may try new tactics but ultimately they are the same selfish beings as they always were.

However, hope can be a wonderful thing; it can get us through rough times and protect our hearts from being broken too badly by keeping us focused on a future that contains all our dreams and wishes.

I invite you to let your heart keep hoping. But not for change in behavior from a person who has hurt and manipulated you many times in the past and will continue to do so for as long as you stay with them; instead I invite you to hope for a better future for yourself, with people who love and appreciate you and do not manipulate you or harm you on purpose.

Allow yourself to imagine yourself in that future, and feel what that might be like. I think that hope is a powerful force that will allow you to make the changes in yourself and your life to reach that future.
