SkyeDS: back
SkyeDS: I don't think it even took 10 min to get to the capital
coming straight down 13th
SkyeDS: took longer coming back because I took 15th
evile: awesome ;)
SkyeDS: saw your building
SkyeDS: mountain laurels seem to be quite fragrant as well
evile: the fortress of oppression? isn't it nice.
evile: Did you see the white mountain laurel blossoms on the west
side of the capitol?
SkyeDS: is that what those were
evile: I don't think they are as fragrant as the purple, but they're
gorgeous.
evile: I haven't seen them anywhere but on the Capitol grounds, I bet
they are ungodly $$$ pricey
evile: I just ordered Jen's b-day prezzies from amazon.com. I hope
they arrive in time. Should have gotten round to it sooner. :(
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: morning glories and sweetpeas are pretty
evile: sweetpeas smell good. morning glories are just pretty. They
usually do very well for me
SkyeDS: I got email from my webpage
SkyeDS: from someone in Iceland who wants to know how to go about
training their Icelandic horses (gaited)
evile: I love the way they look. Dying of curiosity re: Tolt
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: this is weird
SkyeDS: this one place sells mountain laurel cheaper the more feet
you get of it
evile: One of the trips in my horse vacation catalog is going to
Iceland & riding the ponies. It's a 'working vacation' though, you
actually herd them from their summer to the winter grazing lands.
SkyeDS:

urel
SkyeDS: that would be a blast
SkyeDS: although not in the same way that chenonceau would be
SkyeDS: but I would enjoy a working vacation
evile: the leaves aren't the same as ours. Different variety
SkyeDS: or those cooking vacations in Italy
evile: http://aggie-
horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/newsletters/hortupdate/apr02/art3apr.h
tml
evile: you want Sophora secundiflora not Kalmia latifolia
evile: I get irritated with a lot of gardening catalogs, they either
leave out the scientific name OR they leave out the plants habits, or
both. yes, it's pretty, but what IS it and where does it grow?
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: oh, *texas* mountain laurel
evile: yup.
evile: brb, potty break
evile: back
evile: I have to remember to get raisins for the Capitol squirrels
SkyeDS: no wonder I have a hard time telling the difference
SkyeDS: this one site compares tx m.l. to wisteria all over the place
SkyeDS: only difference being that one is a vine and one is a tree
evile: yeah, the flowers are very similar. leaves & stems are
different.
SkyeDS: wish the Baby's mother weren't so hostile
SkyeDS: she's a landscaper and I would like to know where the
cheapest nurseries are
SkyeDS: as my list of "I want a" continues to grow
evile: me too. I am not so into 'stuff' as I used to be, but I still
like plants. And I want to travel. Jut found a $133 RT airfare to
Vegas. So tempting...
SkyeDS: hmmm wonder how lilac and lavender do here
evile: lavender is probably a better bet. Lilac needs more water &
humidity than we have.
evile: It's a 'deep south' kind of plant.
SkyeDS: ah
SkyeDS: I like lavender
evile: Houston is probably as close as it could get
evile: There's another house & garden show this weekend. I might go
on Sunday.
SkyeDS: I've heard
SkyeDS: TML seeds are poisonous
evile: If I go, I'll pick you up a copy of that City planting guide.
Or I could give you the one I've got & get another one later :)
SkyeDS: have to find a way to keep them away from the horses
evile: Yeah. That is always a consideration.
SkyeDS: so can't use them as border shrubs
SkyeDS: don't know I could afford that many anyway since I want to
buy saplings
evile: yeah.
evile: I've bought plants off ebay before, but didn't have much luck.
I wonder what kind of moron buys mountain laurel seeds.
SkyeDS: city planting guide lists nurseries?
SkyeDS: just for Austin or surrounding areas?
evile: I can't remember.
evile: I'll bring it for you tomorrow :)
SkyeDS: tante grazie!
SkyeDS: too bad I don't have a Tax ID for either of my businesses
SkyeDS: bet bus to bus is cheaper way to buy
evile: no sales tax, anyway.
SkyeDS: some point I need to think about making my DBAs official and
doing the EIN anyway
SkyeDS: I named my contracting services Amicus Fidelis (faithful
friend) ;)
evile: When I did it, it cost $11 and took about 20 minutes
evile: And the courthouse is right up the street from your office,
almost.
SkyeDS: /me nods
evile: It was a hassle in that they only took cash, but other that,
easy peasy.
SkyeDS: do you do different taxes or does magpies go on your 1040 SE?
evile: It's a schedule C
evile: a little 1/2 sheet that goes with my 1040. My accountant does
it.
evile: of course my business is 'stuff' and I carry inventory &
materials, and yours is 'service' so you won't be carrying inventory
& raw materials. So your forms may be different.
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: has always been an SE before, or I thought
SkyeDS: I use TaxCut
SkyeDS: bout 3 oclock I have to switch puters
evile: aha, cool.
SkyeDS: oooh, nevermind
SkyeDS: I don't switch puters because I'm going to meet with a client
SkyeDS: /me looks at myself and wishes I had a suit up here
evile: you work in a pretty casual place, though. At least from your
boss' sartorial style.
SkyeDS: yeah b ut he's dressed nice today
SkyeDS: and I'm not
evile: if he's not worried about it, you shouldn't be either, I guess.
SkyeDS: all the same I'm going to bring a suit up here
SkyeDS: although I think with pants, not a skirt, so I don't have to
have hose
SkyeDS: and no heels, sorry
evile: yup
SkyeDS: seems like sonar0m's mom does lots of business with red barn.
evile: They carry a lot of native/xeriscape plants.
SkyeDS: I just want to get a good deal on what I spend my hardearned
money on, and not get taken because I don't know anything about what
I'm doing
evile: exactly
SkyeDS: I wonder if I can't ever be happy
SkyeDS: I walk out, see my beautiful white flower trees
SkyeDS: adn think how beautiful they are
SkyeDS: and then about how I want a whole bunch more flowering stuff
evile: *shrug* I know the feeling.
SkyeDS: and I will have to give thought as to where to plant stuff
SkyeDS: because while the wisteria can go on the porches and all over
the house
SkyeDS: redbuds and mountain laurels are like trees
SkyeDS: although they call ML a shrub
SkyeDS: so where to put the redbuds
SkyeDS: and how many redbuds and MLs can I afford
evile: The nice thing about owning property is that you don't have to
do everything now
evile: even though you want to :)
SkyeDS: :P~~~
evile: I'd start with all the mountain laurels you can afford, since
they are the slowest-growing.
evile: Then next year, or next paycheck, or whenever, add redbuds
since they are the next slowest growing. Then wisteria
SkyeDS: I bet wisteria is cheap
SkyeDS: because so many people around the park in rockdale have it
evile: I got a very good sized plant in Fredericksburg for $12
evile: But I kept it in the pot and it died
SkyeDS: I want to let it grow wild around both my porches and the
walls of the house
evile: Another idea would be to buy 1 expensive thing and 1 cheap
thing each time you've got the $ for it.
SkyeDS: I don't care if I don't ever see the walls ever again, I'll
just keep it cut away from windows and doors
SkyeDS: (I don't like my yellow house, I would rather it have been
gray)
evile: wisteria is good because it twines around stuff but it doesn't
send out little rootlets that destroy paint & masonry
SkyeDS: so it won't be a problem to let it grow all over the house :)
evile: it is heavy, so it can pull down a trellis with its weight,
but it is not deliberately destructive
evile: a lot of the english ivy type stuff has those little hairy
roots that will tear stuff up.
SkyeDS: people keep using the word invasive like it's a bad thing
SkyeDS: /me sees nothing bad about stuff that grows profusely without
me messing with it
SkyeDS: the backside of Karen's house is entirely covered in ivy
evile: depending on what/where you plant, though, the invasive stuff
will kill other stuff in its way.
evile: mint will kill other herbs its planted near, stuff like that.
evile: otoh, we had an entire bed of mint & it grew to cover a bit of
the lawn, and mowing was very fragrant & pleasant.
evile: I am not a fan of st augustine or any other grass--grass is
boring and it doesn't smell like anything.I'd rather have a mint or
chamomile or thyme lawn.
SkyeDS: I have coastal bermuda. It's good for the horses.
SkyeDS: I guess I could look into what it would take to have alfafa
too
SkyeDS: and I need to invest in winter rye or some other winter grass
eventually
evile: yup
SkyeDS: woo
evile: time to change machines?
SkyeDS: Two cultivars include: 'Black Dragon,' which has double dark
purple flowers (wisteria)
evile: pretty
evile: My attempt at black & white veggies last year didn't yield
anything. It was disappointing.
SkyeDS: I dont' think I want a vegetable garden
SkyeDS: I don't really want an herb garden but if I don't eventually
get one they may revoke my witch card
evile: heh
evile: there's a Yahoo group that I like reading, Gothic Gardeners.
Lots of good ideas for purple & black & dramatic plants.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GothicGardeners/
SkyeDS: lol I'll have to check that out
SkyeDS: I d on't know about black but I like purple, red and white
evile: me too
SkyeDS: seems to me that a great many of our clients don't seem to be
on time
SkyeDS: but that may be the out of town ones more often than not
evile: that may be acceptable, but in town clients should know how
traffic here works
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: a doctor here in town asked if she could bring her kids with
her tomorrow since she will just be here a few minutes to sign papers
and drop a check
SkyeDS: I told her I would be happy to entertain them
evile: brave woman.
SkyeDS: signing paper and dropping check shouldn't take that long
evile: the fact that she asked rather than assumed it would be OK
probably puts her on the 'parent' level, rather than 'breeder', which
means her kids will know how to behave.
SkyeDS: hope so
evile: me too.
evile: You know, if it's going to be a rainy nasty weekend, I think
I'd rather be in my house where I have many things that need doing,
rather than driving through 'texas stupid juice', slogging thru the
mud, and sitting around in the hall at McKinney park. but maybe
that's just me.
evile: and *no way* I'm going to Excalibur in the rain. That place is
a mud pit when it's been raining.
SkyeDS: /me nods
SkyeDS: I know it might rain friday
SkyeDS: I hadn't checked for weekend y et
SkyeDS: I don't want to go to McK anyway, not even if I could afford
it
SkyeDS: if it's nice I'd rather be riding
SkyeDS: if it isn't nice I'd rather be inside
evile: me too.
SkyeDS: ya know, even if I came in from out of town whatever way, I'd
call before I came in half an hour late
evile: wow.
evile: Sometimes you just don't know how long it's gonna take to get
somewehre, though.
SkyeDS: but what keeps him from calling?
evile: It took me a solid hour to get to the Voyager party on
Saturday. Even though I've driven to that area before and it took 20
minutes.
evile: Maybe he doesn't have a cell & he's on the road?
SkyeDS: Hugh bills at $195 an hour, his time is valuable
SkyeDS: at any rate, if I were on the road without a cell, I would
have called from a payphone by now if necessary
evile: You have lots more common sense than most people, though.
SkyeDS: ROFL how much would it cost me to have you tell my mother
that (or any other family member)?
evile: I probably don't want to meet your mom.
SkyeDS: she's different now. She's an old person trying to get into
Heaven.
evile: heh
evile: yahoo weather has changed Saturday to 'cloudy'. no rain. but
downgraded tomorrow from 'scattered rain' to 'rain'. I guess we'll
play it by ear.
SkyeDS: I prefer it to rain during the week and be nice on the weekend
SkyeDS: but I will take whatever rain I can get
evile: me too
evile: Looks like they're changing the PNO location to Ruta Maya
evile: talking about drumming and dancing outside. Guess I'll take a
miss on that this month.
evile: On the plus side, bad weather knocks about half of Saturday's
events off the board, so I can make a better choice among the
remaining choices.
Mar. 11, 2004
SkyeDS: guess they won't be doing anything outside unless weather
permits
SkyeDS: and why did they change from OD's I wonder
evile: mobility issues. I know Terri & Meg couldn't get up the stairs
SkyeDS: took them long enough to figure that one out (duh)
evile: Plus I think the Opals' staff was starting to get attitude
with the pagan crowd
SkyeDS: I ate there o nce, food was good
SkyeDS: but we were downstairs and outside
evile: yup
SkyeDS: for the usual reason
evile: waitstaff tends to be less attentive to people who take up
space & don't order or order 1 thing and then take up space for many
hours.
evile: And a lot of pagans don't seem to be socially graceful enough
to realize when they're inconveniencing someone or making them lose
money.
evile: Back in The Good Ol Days, we'd go to Dennys or Jims and sit
and drink coffee for 3 hours. But...I'd tip accordingly. Not
according to the price of the coffee, but for keeping that booth
occupied for such a long time.
SkyeDS: sineater took more pictures of my white flower trees :)
evile: nice :)
SkyeDS: hope it won't be hard to get them on the webpage
SkyeDS: he's pretty damn good with a camera
evile: the artist's eye
SkyeDS: I will see if I can forward these with the attachments to you
real quick
evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: actually I don't know if I can do that through the webmail
thing
SkyeDS: without saving the pics and then reattaching them
SkyeDS: so it would probably be faster to do it from home
SkyeDS: if would be ok not to do it right now this minute?
evile: No worries. I can wait :)
SkyeDS: hope you can come visit before it gets ungodly hot but I
still think you need a social secretary :P
evile: I have a hard time making up my mind what to do sometimes. Too
many choices.
SkyeDS: I never did have a housewarming party, and I could have a
birthday party, but then again I'd rather go to Lake Somerville for
my birthday
SkyeDS: client finally arrived, HUGS, travel safely home, see you
tomorrow at lunch :)
evile: yup, that would be very nice.
evile: OK! :)
