Mom sent me a letter that Kathi V sent her. Mostly chatty, fun
stuff. She's gotten married again, planning a trip to France with a
girlfriend, and then some sad family stuff, Mike V not returning
calls or letters, David V never returning calls or letters, but at
least being occasionally available when she calls him to talk.

Then a whole big paragraph about X. I don't know why Mom sent it
to me. It just upsets me and not a f'in thing I can do about it.

"After we went down to Austin to help X with her court dates
and her expenses she moved a couple of times and has not written or
called since. It is a saga of her near jail time, and her lack of
interest in making her life better iwll always probably keep her
barely getting by. She chooses to hang out with men who will take
advantage of her, and takes and takes and then gets afraid that
someone will ask her to be responsible, then runs and hides from the
people who love her and want to help. Of course there is only so much
help for people who don't want to change a bad lifestyle. Her kids
may turn out OK in spite of all odds. At least J will. [ex goddaughter]
is bright, but the men X hangs out with may take advantage of
[ex goddaughter] sometime, I worry about that. [youngest] will probably live
with mom most of his life unless she teaches him to stand on his own
two feet, something she can't model for him. I love her dearly, but
she is lost and can't seem to accept real help to change."
