I took Weez to Citywide garage sale. She finds this framed 'campaign
poster' for Teddy Roosevelt and goes apeshit because her husband Dan
is totally into TR and collects TR memorabilia. It's marked $50 but
the glass in the frame is broken. So she 'talks the guy down' to $35.
She is all excited and wondering if it's real (Sweetie looks at it as
he's loading it into my car and sees it's been printed on a dot
matrix printer, but I shush him)
She calls her husband and is all like 'Baby, guess what I found for
you!' and asks if they had the capability of printing in black AND
brown at the same time back then. She's all jazzed because Dan
says 'yes'.
So, we take it out of the frame, find that it's really seriously
glued to the matte on all 4 corners (a bad no no, from what I
understand), wrap it in saran wrap and take it to the PO. The PO lady
says they don't have anything the right size. So we take it to this
mailing place to get mailed. She uses my return address as
the 'sender' address and gets charged almost $30 to send it priority.
So, here's the punch line: the postman delivered it back to my house
today & gave it to tom. Insufficient postage. fuck!
If she hadn't already told Baby Dan about it, I might just stick it
in the closet....but they're expecting it, so I can't. I'll have to
shlep it over to the PO and re-mail it. Probably for $50+.
This is like some classic, elaborate sort of sitcom thing: country
bumpkin cousin gets shafted into paying $35 for a poster worth $2.
Pays another $30 to ship it extra-careful, and then sophisticated
city cousin gets hers for laughing behind bumpkin's back, because she
gets to pay $50 in return postage fees. haha. Joke's on City Cousin.
That's what you get for laughing at your Bumpkin Cousin, you meany!
I am pretty sure I saw this on the sitcom with Balki and Cousin Larry
Appleton...whatever that was called.

Of course, in "Perfect Strangers", Cousin Larry would
stash it in the closet & refuse to spend the $ to resend
it, and it would turn out to have termite eggs in it,
and then they'd hatch & eat Larry's apartment, and
THEN he'd pay $500 for the exterminator PLUS the
postage, finally. ha ha. Big City cousin gets screwed
for being a tightwad. hee. fuckin'. hee.
