I got 'the smackdown' from Kat in austin poly yahoo group when
Rebecca posted a news item that the largely-GOP state legislature is
going to put a 2 year spending freeze on the state budget, in
addition to some other concerns in the same editorial article.

Some asshole named Steve said something fairly rude to rebecca,
basically' this has nothing to do with me or with poly, so fuck
off'. So, trying to be humorous-yet-serious, I said 'well, sureit
has to do with poly, becuase if I make the same $ every year for the
next 2 yrs, I won't be able to afford to goto poly dinner anymore'
and then Kat got all serious & laid the smackdown. :(

I bitched because that means I will be making the same shitty salary
for the next 2 years, while the leg. continues to waste taxpayer
money on vacations and luncheons (that's "junkets" and "party
    fundraisers" to you & me).

Kat arrogantly informed me that there's no reason I have to stay at
the job. Which, technically, is true. But...there are _no_ jobs right
    now. I know. I look.

I am just so thrilled about the possibility of having to work this
job plus 1 or 2 retail type lowbrow gigs to pay my bills at some
point in the future. I have several coworkers who are already at that
point. Their work is more clerical in nature, so they're not making
as much as me here...but I'll be there soon if costs of living
    increase and my pay doesn't.

Shame on me for giving a shit about what the state government does.
    I'm such a liberal rat-bag for thinking I deserve a fucking raise.

And then Steve went off and assumed that I'm all liberal and pagan
and anti christian because of my post, which pisses me off but I'm
not going to take anything further afield by posting in the group to
    that topic anymore.

I guess I'm having more than one issue:

    1) Rebecca doesn't make a habit of posting off topic rabid liberal
crap to the poly yahoo group, so she did not deserve the 'tone' of
    Steve's response

    2) We live in the real world, regardless of personal preferences &
lifestyle practices. The real world has impact on our personal lives.
From the more frivolous example of 'spending cuts mean no raise for
me' to the more serious sodomy law problems going thru our courts
right now, that could have big impact on the poly community. So,
imho, there is nothing wrong with giving folks a heads-up about
something current-event/government-related even if it isn't strictly
    on topic.

    3) I really am pissed that I won't be getting another raise for 2
years if i stay here & can't find anything better elsewhere.

and 4) I dont' care for Steve's assumptions about me, or his
assumptions about what I think of him.

    -------------------------------------------------
What I love best is that the governmental bigwigs are blaming the
budget shortfall on the fact that we in TX just started paying
teachers a living wage and (I think?) giving them healthcare benefits.

Pull the other one, you Armani-suit ostritch-boots wearing scumbag
    thieves.

    A funny Xmas song:

    http://www.mudcat.org/kids/@displaysong.cfm?SongID=654

    The Bitter Withy
    BITTER WITHY

As it fell out on a high holiday
Small rain from the sky did fall
Sweet Jesus asked of his own mother dear
Whether he might play at ball

To play, to play, dear child she did say
It's time that you have been gone
And don't let me hear complaints about you
At night when you do come home

Now our Savior walked down into yonder town
As far as the holy, holy well
And there he met three of the finest children
That ever any tongue could tell

Good morn, good morn, good morn, said they
Good morning, then said he, said he
Now which of you three fine children
Will play at ball with me

Oh we are lords and ladies sons
    Born in a bowery hall
And you are but a maiden's child
    Born in an oxen stall

Now our savior built a bridge with the beams of the sun
and over the water ran he, ran he
And the three jolly children followed after him
And drowned they were all three

The upward ball and the downward ball
Their mothers they did wail and squall
Saying, Mary mild, fetch home your child
    For ours are drownded all

Then Mary mild picked a handful of withies
And laid our dear savior across her knee
And with that handful of withy twigs
    She gave him slashes three

Oh cursed be to the bitter withy
That has caused me to smart, to smart
And that shall be the very first tree
That shall perish right at the heart

P.S. - next time you're at Sephora, take a whiff of
Hanae Mori. I got a sample a while back and finally
got around to trying it today. It is lovely. Maybe
a bit sweeter than what you usually like, but it has
      an intensity, too.

I was thinking of buying it - but, my bottle of
Michael (almost full!) fell off my vanity and won't
spray anymore, and I am trying to decide whether to
      buy a new one.

Who makes Hanae Mori? Is it one of the ones Sephora
carries exclusively? I will definitely give it a try.

SIL wants to go to Sephora & get her makeup done so she
can 'learn how to do it' herself. I sincerely doubt
she will learn anything, but I told her we could go.
She is really into her 'helpless' gig. She doesn't
know how to put on makeup, she doesn't know how to
choose wine, she doesn't know how to pick out
flattering clothing, she doesn't know about 'grownup'
food, manners, etc. wah wah wah. Poor SIL, needs help &
      rescue. So sad.

I mention your name alot when I'm hanging out with
      her. I don't know why. I guess it's like waving a
cross at a vampire: mention the name of a real friend
in the presence of a pathetic leech in hopes of
warding her off. I guess I also need to constantly
remind myself that "needy person" is not the same as
"person I need" in my life... :)

      {big hugs! missin' you!!!!}

      JEN:

Hanae Mori is the maker/designer. As far as I know, it doesn't have
any other name. I think it is a Sephora exclusive.

SIL is pathetic. I wonder if the Sephora people will be at all
condescending/snarky/scornful to her. That would be horrible customer
service, of course, but probably hard to resist. Maybe they will be
really obsequious and then make fun of her after she leaves.

That's funny about dropping my name. If she is scared of me, that
probably makes it all the funnier and more effective in the vampire
      sense.
      I miss you, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1032 I forgot to write about this:

I got a set of Reidel tasting glasses from my stepdad via amazon.com
yesterday. I peeked at the packing list, and then of course I had to
look at them....I feel a little bit guilty, but they are SO
GORGEOUS!!! I can't wait to have a tasting with them!!

Tom got a picture of me hugging the box. It is cute :) I'll send it
to my stepdad. WHEE! That is just so damn cool!
