I got the UT Informal classes schedule in the mail. They already have
someone doing a wine tasting tour of Texas....I'm going to sign up
for it and see how the tour leader does things. I was going thru my
tax stuff for my appointment with my accountant, and it looks like I
can write off classes :) So that's a cool thing. I am also going to
go ahead and spend the $200 to take part 1 of the 6-part paralegal
certification. If I hate it, it's only $200. If I like it, It'll only
be $1000 more to get the whole series & get certified. There are
other paralegal certifications that are comparable or cheaper, but
you have to sign up for the whole shmear at the same time. This makes
it easier, more affordable, and not such a big investment if it turns
out to be something I don't want to do. I'll also take "Accounting
for Non-Accountants" which I've been meaning to do for a long time
now.

My mindset on the paralegal thing is something like this: if I have
to do some crappy job I hate just for the money for the
next foreseeable future, why shouldn't I get a crappy job that pays
MORE money than the current crappy job? Plus if BPSIL can get a
job doing it, anybody can. Austin employers must be desperate to
fill paralegal positions if they'll take someone with her spotty-ass
work history...not to mention her actual spotty ass :P

So: Wine tour class; see how it's done, see if Magpies wants to do
it. I'd rather start an all-Texas-wine shop (locate it near the
Capital! TEXAS TOURIST HEAVEN!), but that would be a serious
investment and I apparently don't have much business sense. Ideas are
fine, but they are a small percentage of what it takes to make a
business work. 10% inspiration and 90% perspiration is a little more
like it. ...only it's more like 10% good idea, 40% hard work, and 50%
MARKETING. So that's another thing to work on in future.

Accounting for Non-Accountants: hopefully keep my finances more under
control & help Joe B. out with my end of year statements
(btw, going thru my records last nite I realized that it doesn't look
like X ever paid me for the Girl Scout soap class. Fuck!)

and Paralegal 1, which is an online class that uses the same set of
books for all 6 sections. So if it turns out that I don't totally
hate it, I can take all 6 with reasonable costs, etc. It would be
wierd to send drafts off to BPSIL's attorney's office and have to deal
with her on a professional level...but that might be fun, too.
Slamming her ass in court. hee.
