What just happened? My narc sister held my face up by my chin, looked into my eyes and said, “use people! Everyone you meet is trying to use you so, use them first”, while I was crying over something hurtful she had said. Then she hugged me.

Every once in a while the narc lets down their mask and lets you see who they really are; either because they trust you, or you are in a powerless (contemptible) position where you aren’t viewed as a threat. Seeing you wounded from something she did to you probably made her feel very powerful so she could show you a truth about herself without feeling vulnerable.

This person has showed you one of the core tenets of their existence. She has revealed the narcissistic mindset that everyone she meets is a tool or a threat. Now that you know this is how she views all relationships and all people, you can behave accordingly, whether that means going no-contact, keeping her at arms length, strengthening your boundaries so that she can’t take from you more than you are willing to give, or to enter into a purely transactional relationship with her.
