What in the world would someone consciously choose to be a narcissist for? Well maybe I can answer my own question. They either needed more discipline as children or they really are mental cases.
No one chooses to have a personality disorder, any more than a fetus ‘chooses’ to be born without legs or born blind. Narcissism is either a genetic deformity or damage brought about by childhood trauma.
People can, and do, however, choose to be ignorant, bigoted, selfish, and cruel.
People without training and education often choose to label other people behaving badly as ‘narcissists’ when the fact of the matter is that 1) the person being labeled is NOT a narcissist, and 2) the person doing the labeling has no training, experience or expertise in the field of psychology or mental health.
Sad.
