Had a long phone conversation w/J-Law last night. It was great! She
told me all about the previous weekend:

J-Law and [J-Law's beau] had planned a wine tasting trip to Napa
this past weekend, were staying at a B&B, etc. Their
first stop was the Nickel & Nickel (their favorite
winery) tasting room, which was remarkably empty. [he'd reserved the
    place for them in advance!]

The lady who runs the place poured them each a glass of
Dolce, they visited a bit, and then she went off. So,
there's J-Law and [J-Law's beau], all alone in this big beautiful
winery, and [J-Law's beau] tells her how lucky he feels to have
met her, how beautiful she is, how much he loves her,
and that in addition to all of that, she's his best
friend, too. And then he pulled out the ring and
    popped The Question.

J-Law had expected that she'd just jump up and shout
"YES!" when it actually happened, but in reality she
just kind of squeaked out a little "yes"

They spent the day tasting at various wineries, and
then they went back to the B&B, which sounded
lovely--big jacuzzi tub, fireplace, the works. Each
room in the B&B has a guest book, and she read that a
previous guest had gotten engaged in that room. so
    sweet!!!

So there's no official date yet, they're talking late
summer/early fall 2006, and I'm the Maid of Honor!

    whee!

    Ask for what you want
    Believe in me
Call me just to say 'hi'
Defend me when someone says something nasty behind my back
    Encourage me
Feed me things that are good for me
    Give me presents, just cuz
    Hug me
    Initiate contact
    Just spend time with me
Know my weaknesses, and like me anyway
    LISTEN!!!!!
    Make time for me
    Need my help, sometimes.
    Open your heart to me
    Put up with my family
Quirks (have your own, like mine)
Remind me I can do better when I behave badly
    Share my happiness
    Trust me
Unconditional love is what you get from Dogs and God, sorry. (I'll
    try my best!)
    Vacation with me
Weep openly when you need to
    X
Yell at me when I need yelling at
    Z

    evile: TGIF!! :)
SkyeDS: I just had a perfectly nice conversation with bridget of all
    people
    SkyeDS: cool
    evile: good. I'm glad.
SkyeDS: so I'm on my new machine now
SkyeDS: took me an hour and a half to get it completely up and
running (took me two days with Hugh's)
evile: got it all connected and up and running :) Good .
SkyeDS: I didn't have as much software to move over though, nor the
entire library of client files etc
SkyeDS: nor the printer to install
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: plus I had a better idea of what I was doing
SkyeDS: I came in yesterday morning and he's trying to install the
printer, which I assume he can do, because he's done it before, and
    he's installed it in German
evile: yeah, 2 days down to 1.5 hr sounds like a good learning
    curve :)
SkyeDS: I had to un-and re-install the printer half a dozen times
yesterday because it wouldn't print envelopes
    evile: how annoying
SkyeDS: then it didn't like my 98 machine networked to the new xp
    machine
SkyeDS: so then I had to research the problem and execute a
completely obscure maneuver (xp didn't want me to do it so it hid it)
to put the 98 drivers in
SkyeDS: so now that the new machine is on, I had to undo that and
completely redo it this morning because the entire network is xp now
SkyeDS: Hugh hates XP. He isn't used to it yet (neither am I for
that matter, Sineater operates the XP boxes at home, and my box is still
    98)
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I learned early on that there's what I can do and what I
can't do, and precious little I can't do, when I want to badly
enough, but lots that I can do, that I don't like doing (like the
entire office puter network from the ground up)
    evile: yup
evile: This morning I got to shove a little BreederBingo back in
    someone's face, felt really nice.
evile: Particularly at work, but also in other places, I get people
telling me that since I have no children, I have no right to comment
on how theirs are behaving. Or since I have no children, I have no
right to comment on the frequency of their lateness/absence/general
uselessness at work. et fucking cetera
evile: So my boss got on me about my lack of production yesterday,
and I said "Oh, you have KIDS, so you don't really understand--my
nerves were completely frazzled by hearing that screaming baby in
here for almost an hour yesterday!"
SkyeDS: you said that to your boss?
    evile: yes, I did.
SkyeDS: you are much braver than me
evile: Just tired of the BS.
SkyeDS: of course Hugh and I say shit to each other all the time, but
    we're playing.
SkyeDS: I bet her expression/reaction was priceless
    evile: enh, not really.
SkyeDS: (this box is SO fast)
    evile: cool :)
SkyeDS: I brought Arthur to work exactly once. There were tornados
around the ranch, and literally no one else was here but me and mine,
everyone else was gone for holiday
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I really, really get aggravated when the rules aren't the
    same for everybody
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: I have respect for the rules, but not when they're
compromised because of who you are
SkyeDS: like, the screaming baby v the good kid quietly doing homework
    evile: *nod* exactly
SkyeDS: I think I may be overdeveloped in my sense of FAIR
evile: well, bottom line, the world is not fair.
evile: its like meritocracy and unicorns.
    SkyeDS: zactly
evile: do not exist, never existed, but some people really still
believe in them. Oh, add paper money to the list of mythical beasts,
    while you're at it.
    SkyeDS: lol
SkyeDS: the event site is on the road home, right in the middle,
literally half an hour from the office and then half an hour to the
    ranch
evile: are you going straight there from work?
SkyeDS: guess I could stop by and help some (although I'm wearing
sandals, so I'd have to stay away from the horses, particularly the
    big Hanoverians)
    SkyeDS: I'll stop and visit
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: but I'm not loading the horses & co up until tomorrow
morning, Linda & Laura aren't going to be there till tomorrow
    evile: oh, cool.
SkyeDS: [aunt L]&[Uncle B] is easier to say fast than Laura&Linda (or
    Linda&Laura)
    evile: heehee, true.
SkyeDS: is it just Sineater that pronounces [aunt L]&[Uncle B] as one word, or is
    that a family thing ;)
evile: I think that's everyone. As a matter of fact, [Uncle B]'s cousin
Bill has 4 little boys and they all approach either [aunt L] or [Uncle B] and
say "[aunt L]&[Uncle B], can I have another soda?" (or whatever).
    SkyeDS: LOL
    evile: It *is* pretty cute.
SkyeDS: what was that goddess site you found yesterday?
    evile: um...hang on a sec....
    evile: http://www.thegoddessgarden.net
    SkyeDS: grazie
evile: you're welcome. I really want to try and make some hair falls.
    SkyeDS: way cool
evile: *puts it on the list of things to get 'round to*
    SkyeDS: bedouin braid accents *sigh*
evile: I sort of like all the crazy hair colors, myownself :P
evile: I already know I want at least 2 sets--one to match my
silver/black/turquoise look and one to go with my red/orange/brown
    garb & jewelry
evile: I was hoping that April (ample on LJ) knew how to make them,
    but she buys hers
SkyeDS: was just comparing the belt I bought, I probably paid too
much but I figured that might be the case
SkyeDS: not for the kuchi belt but for the tassel belt (but it's also
reversible and I don't feel bad, so there)
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: our client today was supposed to be here between 7 and 7:30
am, and they still aren't back from hearing yet
    evile: oh, yuck!!
evile: Hey, did y'all decide to do the poppy parade and the SCA event
or just the SCA thing this weekend?
SkyeDS: I think just the SCA event
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: as much as I love parades in general and GT in particular, I
want to spend time w L&L
    evile: yeah.
    SkyeDS: upi
SkyeDS: you're more than welcome to come out and watch, I don't know
what the gate fee will be (more for non members of course)
evile: I wish I could, but we've got a busy weekend planned
SkyeDS: there's always bryn gwlad baronial, that's close too
    SkyeDS: in the fall
    evile: *nod*
evile: Meg is a member of bryn gwlad, but I think she tries to keep
her SCA life and her 'normal' life very separate...
SkyeDS: Meg = maggiemaepisces or naughtyzoot
    evile: maggiemaepisces.
evile: If it woudln't bother her for me to be there, I'd be open to
    going to a BG event.
SkyeDS: being the little follower I am, at work I follow whatever
    seems to be teh convention
SkyeDS: Hugh doesn't make any great effort to keep home life out of
the office, so I see no need to either
    evile: *nod*
evile: I really woudln't want to embarass meg by being the badly
dressed gauche thing hanging on her skirts.
SkyeDS: I have never seen you go anywhere badly dressed or gauche
evile: OTOh, I don't give enough of a shit abou tthe SCA to try to
    assemble a period/authentic garb,persona, accent, etc.
evile: but I wouldnt' embarass meg in front of her SCA friends with
    my lack of costume/interest/whatever.
SkyeDS: Sharjinka wore HFS garb last year
evile: and apparently she noticed that some people said snide things
    to/about her.
    SkyeDS: I didn't know that :(
SkyeDS: nobody says squat to the eqs, even if we're just wearing
    tabards over riding patns
evile: because safety needs to override 'period' in order to do what
    y'all do, I would imagine.
SkyeDS: of course we tend to be red headed bastard stepchildren,
unless the royal/peer in charge happens to be one of us
evile: Hard to say what the reality of Sharjinka's visit to the SCA
was/is, she tends to be more sensitive than I would be. I really
couldn't give a shit what people think of me, but if it made Meg
uncomfortable or put her in a position where she had to choose one
friend over another, or seem to...I would feel bad.
evile: I know you don't give a shit and wouldn't care if I came out
and after I left someone came up and said "who ws that FREAK?"...but
I know Meg is more sensitive, and a lot more invested in her kingdom
than you seem to be. I know y'all are mostly in it for the horses.
SkyeDS: enough of BG are anal snoots that they leave a bad taste in
    outsiders mouths in general
SkyeDS: Karen is like that in our Shire and her sycophants of course
    follow her in that
SkyeDS: and you're right, I don't give a damn, adn go out of my way
    to avoid it/them
evile: Well, those are Meg's friends, and I respect her apparent
desire to keep her SCA friends and her 'RL' friends at a remove.
SkyeDS: early on we tried to be more invested in the Shire, but
that's hard to do when we're quarantined at events the way we are
SkyeDS: and Karen doesn't make it any easier
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: and we arenot going to do what the others do, which is to go
off and leave the horses completely unsupervised or foist their
    supervision off on someone else
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and the Eqs are much more friendly than the Shire, and always
make room for us at the table, and everywhere else, where the rest of
    the Shire doesn't, so...
evile: *nod* I guess I see it more as an incompatibility of
interest/level of interest. Like taking a gothy HFS kids who likes
wearing collars to a GWNN party. The levels of protocol/interest are
not nearly the same, would be uncomfortable for everyone.
SkyeDS: at BG you're probably right on
SkyeDS: the rest of us aren't like that, or most of us aren't.
evile: *shrug* I really don't like doing much of anything but
dressing up and drinking and feasting, so I dont' want to really do
any of the work that would make me more involved with HFS or SCA.
SkyeDS: I think we all pursue what it pleases us to pursue, some of
us do it a little more...tolerantly...than others.
    evile: *nod*
evile: I would not mind coming out to watch Sineater do his thing on
Jessie, or whatever, but I dont' want to work, and I don't want SCA
people dissing me or dissing you for hanging with me, either one.
SkyeDS: you're always welcome to come and hang with Sineater, nobody has
to even know you and Meg are "related"
SkyeDS: I only suggest BG for a couple of reasons, one is proximity
and the other is, you really have to appreciate their resources
evile: I imagine it would be considered rude of me if I saw Meg and
didn't acknowledge her...unless I'd chatted with her before hand to
find out HONESTLY whether or not she was comfortable with scruffy non
period generic wench saying 'hi' to her while she was In Persona
SkyeDS: that's what I would do in said situation, ask first.
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: I do my best to avoid those altogether, but that's me
evile: scruffy non period generic wenches? good idea.
    SkyeDS: no
    SkyeDS: interpersonal political BS
evile: It's not really BS, it's just a matter of being sensitive to
    nuances of time/place.
SkyeDS: some people are overly sensitive to it, like Karen, and I
don't like it, so I avoid.
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: "some dukes are better than others"
    SkyeDS: whatever.
SkyeDS: I wonder if she knows her best buddy bridget got us kicked
out of one of our better sites for skinnydipping
SkyeDS: ms I can't stand ME garb because it shows too much flesh
    evile: bridget skinnydipped?
    evile: ick
SkyeDS: I agree women larger than me shouldn't be exposing nipples
    and flesh rolls
SkyeDS: but not all ME garb on all women does.
    evile: nope.
evile: shimmyshimmy has a really nice new coverup/pants/scarf
    ensemble that's just gorgeous.
SkyeDS: also like doi yas mazikaa
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: this weekend is going to be vastly amusing
SkyeDS: karen hates horses and this is the first nothing but horses
    event
    evile: should be interesting, indeed.
SkyeDS: TM is just going to take care of nonhorse stuff, like gate,
    etc, so <shrug>
    evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: great. another every 5 min client.
    evile: yucko.
SkyeDS: look. Hugh knows what you want, ok, I told him. Calling
every 5 isn't going to get it any faster, mmk?
    SkyeDS: "but it's an emergency"
    SkyeDS: no.
SkyeDS: in law, an emergency is, you killed somebody, three people
saw you do it, there's dna evidence and they're not giving you bail.
    evile: eeps!
SkyeDS: there are no emergencies in what we do. sorry.
    evile: there ya go.
SkyeDS: letters to insurance cos are not emergencies
SkyeDS: try getting hit by a mack truck to help your perspective
    evile: I wouldn't think so...
evile: Oh, too cute! [J-Law's beau] and J-Law posted in their wine-tasting blog
    about their weekend:
    http://sjwa.blogspot.com
    SkyeDS: :D
evile: oops, time for me to boogie. Have a great time with the SCA
    folk!
evile: Tell Sineater to kick butt and take names :)
