evile: *opening can of worms* - YAY!
SkyeDS: HUGS LOL
evile: Oh well. I figured someone needed to bring other options to
the table, and I dont have enough time/$/energy/ego invested in HFS
to be defensive or political about it
SkyeDS: good for you :)
evile: If patrick keeps pissing people off and alienating them, all
the nifty features in the world won't be enough to make anyone bother
with "his" site...
SkyeDS: yep
evile: I imagine there are some pigheaded morons who won't use any
HFS site no matter who runs it or how cool it is...but why are those
people in HFS in the first place? I just want to see something a
littel more majority-ruled.
SkyeDS: the HFS doesn't want to be "Roman" like Amtgard and the SCA
so they behave like all the little warring Celts and Bedouins.
evile: feh.
evile: Even Celts and Bedouins know better than to shit in the
drinking water. I dont' think HFS even has that much sense.
SkyeDS: point
evile: You don't pollute common resources. It may take some head-
butting to decide which part of the river is yours and which is mine,
but we both need it to survive and so we better damn well get it
sorted out.
SkyeDS: you want common sense? wtf is wrong with you? <giggles>
evile: Well, like I said, I don't have much invested in this so I
don't really have much of a stake, but I hate to see people acting
badly.
SkyeDS: I just hate stupid people. Not ignorance which can be
taught, willful and persistent stupidity.
evile: yup.
evile: I don't know anyone wellenough to know what kind of person
they are, but there are a bunch of 'em coming across as major a-holes
in print on the forums. I probably wouldn't trust any of them to tie
their shoes, let alone run a kingdom/event/website.
evile: Seems that being safely behind screen & keyboard brings out th
worst in a lot of people. I have (hopefully) outgrown that stage...
SkyeDS: I don't think you were ever in that stage that I ever saw
anyway
evile: Oh, you missed all the fun I used to have on usenet.
alt.fairs.renaissance got incredibly ugly at times.
evile: Again, it was a group of smart, slightly-geeky people who had
a common interest & a common love for something....but would
sometimes let that slip away from consciousness in favor of verbally
flaying one another. Ugly ugly.
evile: I guess teh difference is that a.f.r. was never owned by
anyone, and nobody ever took all the a.f.r. info and put it onto his
own webpage ...
SkyeDS: I think it's ironically funny that people first said, hooray,
a nonDrandmir CRW
SkyeDS: and then bitch about it ever since
SkyeDS: people did less bitching when they had no say in it at all
SkyeDS: chimps and sheeple just love dictators
evile: That's kind of funny/ironic. But probably quite true.
evile: Have you gotten a lot of response for your first weekend of
May shindig?
SkyeDS: none whatsoever
SkyeDS: would like to do Scarbie over MemDay if we've got the
money/time off
evile: Bummer. There's a lot going on. I'm sure the school kids are
getting crunched here at the end of the school yr.
I'm still pondering what to do that weekend. It's possible I'll be
totally out of $ and energy by the end of May. I've got a *lot* going
on next month.
SkyeDS: pretty day outside
evile: Yup. Hopefully I can get in a walk after work.
SkyeDS: I went out and walked the pasture some this morning
evile: Was it still muggy? It was super-humid this a.m. bleh!
SkyeDS: I broke a sweat, not doing anything but walking around, and
it didn't evaporate at all.
evile: ew. I hate that.
SkyeDS: I keep getting phone calls from people who are just intensely
interested but none of them peter out. I would have had one, but,
they had someone want to move internally from NOLA to Austin, and
they only had the one position open to give her. The very day we
were going to sit down to table to discuss their offer. *sigh*
evile: damn.
SkyeDS: got a call about a $20 hour 15 week contract, that would be
nice, if it pans out.
evile: yeah. *fingers crossed*
Michelle just posted room info for Saturday's court at UT
SkyeDS: cool, is it Union? and what is it?
evile: Union bld rm 3.304 7-10 (will probably not go til 10, but that
is how long the room is reserved)
SkyeDS: we used to have something called Shire of the Ivory Tower
there.
evile: I think that's long defunct. UT-based entities don't seem to
last long.
SkyeDS: I don't know if we were ever registered as a UT group or not,
was back when BD was still Amtgard.
SkyeDS: Michelle registered an honorary shire with her coworkers so
that we could use UT facilities recently
evile: I though UT was pretty anal about only 'registered' groups
using the rooms in the union.
SkyeDS: all we would have needed was for one student to register
evile: I was a little...curious...about Michelle's registration of a
group. I was just waiting for Barad Duin to get in a huff because
technically they are the austin hfs group, not drandmir, and
therefore a morelogical choice for UT kids to join...
SkyeDS: nobody's going to join her shire, it's not a real shire.
evile: Yeah...but if she is recruiting UT kids to join HFS, wouldn't
it be logical that they'd join BD? (all purely curiousity on my part,
could give a rat's ass...)
SkyeDS: she isn't recruiting, there isn't anything to recruit to
SkyeDS: by that I mean, if she were recruiting she would recruit for
Drandmir anyway.
evile: So what would be the purpose of all her hard work and
logistical nightmare-ing of doing stuff on/near UT? Just to give
people information?
SkyeDS: and we don't much care, I don't think.
SkyeDS: to be able to use the Union
evile: Were I a UT kid, it would make no sense to me at all to drive
to Georgetown when the same thing is available for me to do in
Austin, just on a different day. *shaking head* crazy.
SkyeDS: politics and who you prefer to hang with. Michelle drives
from Slaughter lane to Georgetown
evile: But she isn't a typical UT student, I don't think.
SkyeDS: no, she works at UT
SkyeDS: well...she is still a grad student I think, I don't know how
that progresses.
evile: I would think that as a working adult, she would have more
free time & $ to devote to driving to G'town, or wherever. UT kids ,
undergrad, etc. probably don't have that
SkyeDS: nope. and newbies don't have any reason to prefer DRandmir
to BD
evile: Oh well. I hope it generates new membership, for whoever.
evile: All of Michelle's plans appear very clusterfucky from my AR POV
SkyeDS: to hear her tell, all she wanted was to be able to use UT for
events <shrug>
evile: but then she is having a booth daytime sat (recruitment?) and
court sat nite (recruitment or just a way for all current HFS'ers to
wind down from Eeyores?)
SkyeDS: Drandmir I guess is willing to drive to UT to do their
events, they're doing demo and court there and such. They did
Dragon's Lair's birthday. But, they don't do Eeyore's.
SkyeDS: if Drandmir were all that worried about recuirting they'd
have the official position of Hospitaller (which Katie would be
perfect for, or yourself)
evile: Their loss, I guess. I hate trying to park near UT. Makes me
feel barfy just thinking about it.
SkyeDS: I don't know if I'm driving from Eeyore's to campus or not.
I guess I probably will. But I know a few things about nooks and
crannies on campus that some don't.
SkyeDS: I miss yoga, but I can't make it now that admin parking goes
till 5:45 and not 4:30
evile: parking near Pease park will be icky, too, but that's event
related, not stupid students walking in the middle of the street and
other stuipd students in cars stopping for no reason & such.
SkyeDS: I'm going to Pease Park at 8 am as part of an official work
crew, no parking problem this year
evile: I don't think we have a plan yet. Every freaque I know is
going--polys,pagans, childfree, rennie, etc etc. It's gonna be WIERD.
SkyeDS: would be happy to take you with, but it's an ungodly hour,
but you are always more than welcome to tag along with me wherever I
go, you know.
evile: I am probably going to try and get a coherent plan together
w/Tom, Max, Big James, and that crowd. I will keep you posted if I
end up needing a ride anywheres (maybe UT in the evening?) :)
SkyeDS: surely :)))
SkyeDS: I miss Tom and Max's company. I've only met James once I
think.
evile: Was idly thinking of trying to finish up my purple
satin 'court dress' but haven't gotten off my butt to get a big ol'
hoop skirt for it.
SkyeDS: I need honest to god court clothes when I can afford to
make/get some made.
SkyeDS: and I need to make a trip to augustmax or somewhere becaus I
am sadly in need of new work suits
evile: My skills are still barely passable, but I figure if I stick
enough trim on it, my court dress will be fine :)
evile: I hate shopping for work clothes. But sometimes it must be
done..no fun, though.
SkyeDS: I knew a senior partner of one firm who had five identical
suits, several shirts, several ties, and five identical pair of shoes.
SkyeDS: he only looked different from day to day because of ties.
SkyeDS: he treated it like a work uniform, and I like that idea.
evile: that's what I do for work, basically. thank goodness it's
business casual so I don't have to have dresses & such.
SkyeDS: at this particular firm, the old biddy hens wouldn't have let
a woman get away with such dress. but they didn't say a word because
he was a man and the senior partner.
evile: me at work: 4 pr khakis, 1 pr nice jeans, 5 'polo style'
shirts. Some sweaters and long sleeves for cold weather.
SkyeDS: as it is, if I am going to make the good money I can make in
a law firm and nowhere else, then I am NOT going to let the old biddy
hens involve me in their treacherous world, period.
SkyeDS: I am going to be friendly, I am not going to have friends.
evile: workplace politics suck.
SkyeDS: I'm going to defer graciously and politely to everyone, from
the janitor on up, do my job, and go the fuck home.
evile: good luck with that :)
SkyeDS: I learned a LOT from Tom and I'm grateful for that.
SkyeDS: I should call him or write him and tell him so, see how he's
doing.
evile: Yeah. J-Law goes to lunch with her mentor from BB&M from time to
time. He really helped her save her sanity at that place.
SkyeDS: someone wants to start something with me, I will keep my
mouth shut, put it in a memo and tell my attorney, who has power
where I don't.
evile: yup
SkyeDS: I am going to act like I don't even know there are politics
there. Flat out ignore them.
evile: That can be helpful. People are so perverse...
evile: My life at work has gotten considerably more pleasant ever
since the boss quit giving out production reports that had everyone's
numbers on it. Now people dont' know how bad I'm making them look, so
they leave me alone.
SkyeDS: that sucks doesn't it? you keep your mouth shut, you do
nothing but your job right, and the better you do it the madder they
get.
evile: Yup. Very tarbaby--no way to ever defend yourself from envy.
SkyeDS: that was a big part of the problem at DK/SF.
SkyeDS: they didn't like Nikki, so obviously she was having an affair
with Don (who was old enough to be her father)
SkyeDS: Nikki and I would have gotten along fine, but Joe, the
paralegal who knew he was going to be replaced by me, got her so
aggravated there wasn't a damn thing I could do to defuse the
situation.
evile: My favorite was when all these total lies were thrown at me, I
got MAD and then was told I had a problem managing my anger. WTF?
Call me a liar, tell me false things I'm accused of doing, and I'm
not supposed to fricken get mad?
SkyeDS: the better I did my job the more upset she was with me. She
thought I wanted her job.
evile: people are so perverse.
SkyeDS: exactly.
evile: it sucks but sometimes the only defense is silence. Let them
think all the lies are true. Hopefully you and your boss who is in
charge of raises/promotions know they're lies.
SkyeDS: no point in getting mad, I learned the hard way, unless you
are an executive, an attorney or a supervisor. Those are the only
people with power. So you go to someone with power and let them
fight the battle for you.
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: if it's your executive, attorney or supervisor who's the
problem, that's a whole nother can of worms altogether.
evile: Yeah. J-Law is getting into it with one of the partners at her
new firm. Not good.
SkyeDS: oh no :(
evile: yeah. not one of the 'big' ones, but definitely not a cool
situation.
SkyeDS: <cringes> ouch
evile: Yeah, well. J-Law's gonna have to learn some lessons in life.
She's still pretty young (28)...it's gonna hurt a few times and then
she'll quit banging her head against that one.
SkyeDS: wonder what her mentor's been telling her....
evile: Probably the same things I have :P
SkyeDS: sounds like she's still in the "wood and water" phase
SkyeDS: just can't piss off the people with the whips when you're
wood and water
evile: Yeah. But she's getting there.
evile: Well, it's time to run away from this terrible place & go have
a nice evening :)
SkyeDS: people think attorneys have it made but young attorneys that
are low on teh totem pole get treated like shit, and the bigger the
firm the shittier' they're treated.
SkyeDS: <hugs> ciao bella, travel safely
evile: *hugs* see ya tomorrow :)
