Also, I was told what was expected, but then someone changed the expectations/rules without telling me. And then decided to yell at me about it when I did things the old way instead of the new way... I love that one.
It depends on the situation. It's entirely possible I was lazy, and blew off an assignment. Or maybe I didn't ask for help when I knew I was in over my head, which is stupid. Or maybe I've been browbeaten enough that I know better than to ask for help, and am hung out to dry; that's someone else being evil. But most likely I am human, and mistakes happen. No one is 100% all the time.
I think usually we make mistakes because we've not been given correct directions or that the expectations have changed and we;ve not been updated until past the point where we've not met with the new expectations.
Most people do something wrong because they think it is right. They don't think they are hurting others or feel justified in hurting others; they may believe this is "the way things are done." We believe in our own rightness so much that we justify hurting others for their wrongness. We are "they" and they are "we."
