the first Mercury retrograde of 2011 happens in Aries
First Mercury Retrograde of 2011
On March 30th, Mercury begins its first retrograde motion of 2011. The apparent backwards movement will last until April 23rd.
As with any Mercury retrograde period, misunderstandings, miscommunication and delays (especially with travel) will be common during our day-to-day activities.
Therefore, double-check everything, twice.
Each of the 3 or 4 annual Mercury retrograde occurs in a different sign, bringing, along with its usual manifestations, a new perspective, or a lesson that mirrors closely the energy of the sign where the retrograde motion happens.
This time, the retrograde motion is in the first sign of the zodiac: Aries.
The comingled energies of Mercury and Aries during this period portends a time where speaking one’s truth will take center stage and correctness might be dammed. In the other hand, it might signify an opportunity to learn how to be honest and be diplomatic at the same time.

On the downside, Mercury in Aries also has a reputation for being selfish, arrogant, quick-tempered, territorial, aggressive, brash, rash, impatient, and super argumentative. In other words, in that sign, Mercury can be a BIG Mouth. Mostly because Mercury in Aries does not want to take the time to mull things over or think about details (they are overrated, in Mercury’s opinion).

I always picture Mercury in Aries as the proverbial elephant in the china store. For as hard as it tries, a moment comes when the elephant will knock something down. Same thing happens with Mercury in Aries. He is bound to put his mouth in his foot. Not out of malice, or to hurt someone, but out of sheer unbridled enthusiasm for its own ideas and the irrepressible need to spread them far and away.
In fearless, outspoken Aries, Mercury is the personification of the advocate. For a cause, for those without a voice, for yourself.
It wants nothing more than help you share your voice, your ideas, champion your cause.

However, Mercury in Aries directness and honesty causes him untold number of problems since he is not one to consider how his words are going to be received. So, he ruffles a lot of feathers. And, creates knee-jerk reactions and hot arguments.
In other words, he, generally, does not have a conversation strategy. One that sets him out to talk to the people that could propagate his ideas, advances his cause, or converts his ideas into reality.
The upcoming retrograde period could help Mercury change this situation.
Mercury Retrograde in Aries Sky: The Big Picture
This retrograde period, Mercury will have the support of several other planets, part of the April cluster of planets in Aries – Jupiter, Uranus, Mars, Moon, and Venus.
Mercury is presented with the perfect opportunity to combine the energy of each one of these planets to spearhead, initiate, conceptualize new and exciting projects that will help him spread his ideas and become his very best advocate.
In summary, with Mercury’s thought process, Jupiter’s faith, Uranus brilliance, Mars decisiveness, and Venus charm, we can make our best ideas stick, survive, and thrive against Aries hotheadedness.
