Welcome to the newest edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here's what you do, and try not to be lame and spoil the fun! Just copy this entire questionnaire and paste into a new LJ entry that you can post. Change all the answers so that they apply to you.

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
my middle name is my aunt's first name.

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
heard a song on the radio Tuesday night that made me a little sniffly.

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
I do, but it's pretty much unreadable to anyone but me.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
still no real answer for this. lunchmeat is not my favorite thing to eat.

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
Happily and permanently child-free

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
I'm not sure. I usually tend to befriend people with qualities I admire and would like to have. &/Or people who are having a bad time and seem to need a friend. I'm not sure I myself fall into either of those categories.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?
fraid so.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
yes.

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
No. Unless someone was gonna pay me a lot of money to do it or something.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
granola, but I'm curious about amaranth flakes.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
A lot of my shoes these days don't have laces.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
In some ways, yes. In other ways, no.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
Cherry Garcia (because they still make it, unlike those bitches at Haagen Dazs who stopped making the best ice cream ever made: Mayan Chocolate)

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
eyes or smile

15. RED OR PINK?
Red

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
Too many to even start. Let's say I'm well aware of most, if not all, of my less-than-shiny traits, and when I'm not indulging them shamelessly, I am rebuking myself thoroughly over them. Naturally, since I don't make much progress on correcting my moral or mental failings, I go the default woman-thing and bitch that I'm too fat.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
My brain doesn't work that way. Pretty much out of sight, out of mind. Less pain that way.

18. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO SEND THIS BACK TO YOU?
Only if they're bored or think there's something important that I need to know.

19. WHAT COLOR PANTS AND SHOES ARE YOU WEARING?
Black

20. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE?
cheese

21. WHAT ARE YOU listening to RIGHT NOW?
coworker rustlings

22. IF YOU WHERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE?
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] idiomagic, I know that there is now a color called "Awesome." I'd like to be that color.

23. FAVORITE SMELLS?
Coffee, cinnamon, fall leaves, [livejournal.com profile] thax's soap, fresh heirloom roses, lavender, chinaberry flowers, fresh citrus peel, libraries, leather, lemon pie, creme brulee, cedar, sun-warmed limestone, campfire, the Salt Lick, umm...and that one wine we tasted in Gruene last weekend.

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
I don't remember!

25. DO YOU LIKE THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS TO YOU?
Well, I wasn't *sent* so much as ganked it for my own...but, sure.

26. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
None. I can tolerate basketball or hockey the best because they are fast-paced. But watching sports is kinda boring for me.

27. HAIR COLOR?
dark brown & getting silver

28. EYE COLOR?
light brown.

29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS?
sometimes.

30. FAVORITE FOOD?
So many. I'm on an asian food kick right now, though, I think.

31. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?
either, if they're well-done. I don't like messy gore gross-out horror and I don't like very obviously maudlin attempts to pull heartstrings. I like a good story with good characters and good writing, regardless of the genre.

32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
I don't remember. Part of some Jack Black movie but I didn't like it enough to finish watching.

33. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
purple

34. SUMMER OR WINTER?
summer. Toobin'!

42. FAVORITE SOUND?
music

43. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES?

44. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME?
From here? Italy or the Phillipines, I guess

Maybe.

46. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
OKC

47. WHOSE ANSWERS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK?
I don't care. No pressure.

it's a good book

honestly, I don't find anything about the life he describes to be particularly odd.

possibly because he is self-reporting his internal state, while his external state would be noticably odd or different (the 'autistic' rocking back and forth or whatever, he says his son corrects him when he does it but obviously he does not notice himself doing it)

or possiby just because I grew up surrounded by geek boys and geek men, who were all into cars and computers and machinery and programming and bla bla, and not so in to people, so it seems really normal to me.

I think that until the stigma is removed from many diagnoses &/or a cure is found*, the helpfulness of having an early diagnosis is somewhat limited. It's great to know what's 'wrong' with yourself, or your child, or your best friend, whatever....but that's not going to stop the world from being a crappy place for them, or stop other people from being crappy to them.

*the author is very adamant that Aspergers is NOT a disease and that he would not want to be 'cured' if there was one. The gifts of mental focus & such are more than worth whatever he's 'missing' in people skills.

And then there are folks like me who seem to be missing some rather crucial people skills but don't have anything particularly extraordinary to show for it in exchange...so...

??

anyway, interesting so far. I'm about 1/3 of the way thru.
