Rules: Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes.
1) The Velveteen Rabbit - my mom read this to me all the time when I was little
2) The Witches of Eastwick - I read this once a year, for some reason.
3) Still Life With Woodpecker - the first Tom Robbins book I ever read
4) The Oracle Glass - The first Judith Merkle Riley book I ever read, loaned to me by a coworker I liked, who got promoted, went crazy, and ended up firing me just before the holidays, when I was due to meet my (now EX)Sweetie's family for the first time. I certainly enjoyed pretending I was still gainfully employed and not just some gold digging leech the whole visit. Loaning me that book was about the only nice thing I can remember that horrendous wench doing for me... ANYWAY, I've since gone on to find more of JMR's books and they're all really fun reads--sort of historical romances with a twist of occult/magic. Pretty well-researched and quick fun reads.
5) The Dragonriders of Pern trilogy - read all of these as a kid, still occasionally journey back to Pern, despite its myriad sexist, classist, heteronormative flaws.
6) Cunninghams Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs - a reference book I use a lot.
7) Delta of Venus - the first Anais Nin book I ever read, first sneaking looks at an illustrated copy my mom & stepdad had, then bought my own when I got my own apartment and worked at Bookstop.
8) Interview With The Vampire - first read during Hurricane Gilbert, when I was at Tulane. I was reading it in my room when we lost power. Scary!
9) Stop Walking on Eggshells - A really excellent book on dealing with mentally ill, abusive folks.
10) To be an anchor in the storm - a really excellent book on how to deal when someone you love is living with an abusive significant other.
11) Pippi Longstocking - another childhood fave.
12) The Nancy Drew Mystery books - read these in the summertimes when I'd go to visit my family in OK. My cousin Weez had (I think) all of them.
13) 1984 - had to read it for English class in high school, have read it a few times since. One of my first hints about the power of media & the short attention span of the American public.
14) Brave New World - another I had to read for school that I have since gone on to appreciate on its own merits.
15) Have Space Suit, Will Travel - the first science fiction book I ever read, one of the first/only things I remember my father giving to me. I have since come to view Heinlen as fundamentally sexist, facist, and in many other ways quite flawed BUT I still enjoy the more "high adventure" themed novels, even if I'm turned off by most of the philosophy.

1. Your ex is on the side of the road on fire. What do you do?
Honestly? Probably panic and/or throw up. I would not be any help at all, and afterwards I'd feel horrible and guilty. (My ex, OTOH, always carried a fire extinguisher in his car...mostly because he drove POS's that were likely to combust, but he was kind of a boy scout like that. One thing I'll say for him--he was good with safety measures and good in emergencies. Me, not so much.)
2. Your best friend tells you she is pregnant. What is your reaction?
"Dude, I thought your guy had a vasectomy. What are you NOT telling me??!?"
3. When is the last time you wanted to punch someone in their face?
Really, it's been a while. That's a nice feeling!
4. Congratulations! You just had a son. What's his name?
Wow, who's the mom? I'd name a boy 5.
5. Congratulations! You just had a daughter. What's her name?
Who on earth have I been impregnating? cuz I know it can't have come out of me!?
She'd be named Mistayke. Misty for short.
6. What are you craving right now?
Some lovey snuggly time with my guy.
7. What was the last thing you cried about?
Probably my brother's sentence.
8. When you buy something and your change is a penny. Do you keep it or tell them to keep the change?
I'd probably just automatically take it and throw it in my purse, unless they pointed out their penny jar or whatever.
9. What color is your tissue box?
blue with stars and moons
10. Do you have a ceiling fan in your room, and if so, is there dust on that fan?
yes, I do. Yes, there is. But I do dust it with the vacuum cleaner periodically.
11. What is the last voicemail you received about?
I don't know. I haven't checked it!
12. Scariest thing you've experienced in the last year?
health problems in May-June.
13. What do you order when you go to Taco Bell?
Um...I don't. I think the last time I went there, I was getting a kiddie meal so my Aunt could have the toy.
14. Have you ever had a garage sale?
no. but I'm gonna!
15. What was the last alcoholic beverage you had?
I had a beer a couple weeks ago.
16.Are you happy right now?
yes :)
17. Who came over last?
Either Dani the house elf's cutie guy or some of
fractalla's friends.
18. Do you miss anybody right now?
Yes.
19. Dark or light jeans?
dark
20. What was the last movie you watched at home?
Last night I watched an anime with Thax. I don't know what it was called.
21. What is in your pocket?
I gots no pockets today.
22. Who introduced you to your significant other?
I am not sure. I met him out at the HFS park at the same time I met a bunch of other people.
sharjinka or
hojo_loves_you, I guess.
23. Where do you hurt?
Nowhere, really.
24. What is your favorite aisle at Wal-Mart?
Don't have one.
25. When is your birthday?
5/20
26. What are you going to do after this?
get back to work!
27. What is your favorite dessert?
anything chocolate
28. Do you have the same name as one of your relatives?
same middle name as my Aunt.
29. Is someone plotting your demise?
It's possible, perhaps even likely, but I honestly hope not. Life is already too short, for me and for my detractors. Anyone actively plotting against me and wishing me ill is wasting their time and energy on something that makes them miserable (me). The thing I try to keep remembering (and often fail to) is to wish my 'enemies' the best--if they are happy and at peace, enjoying their lives & accomplishments, hopefully they won't have the time, energy, or desire to hurt people anymore. Or, as my friend
kulilinei once said so famously: "Namaste, fuckers!"
30. Has anyone ever mistaken you for a family member?
I don't think so, unless friends' kids sleepily calling me 'mommy' counts.
31. Does someone like you right now?
Gosh, I hope so!
32. Do you know anyone in jail/prison?
yes. :( [see #7]
33. Do you like the color green?
sure.
34. Do you think someone is thinking about you right now?
Yes. :)
