SkyeDS: hola
evile: Howdy! Today's been interesting--in the 'chinese curse' sense
of "interesting". Disgusting coworker TMI, restrooms on our floor out
of order, Fire drill at lunchtime...great fun.
SkyeDS: I just got to work half an hour ago, stayed home trying to
get rid of a monstrous sinus headache
SkyeDS: pretty day out
evile: I had one of those this a.m. too. I was snoring so bad Sweetie
went & slept on the couch. I never snore unless I'm VERY tired or
having sucky allergies.
SkyeDS: I had to take two dayquil tablets, two excedrin, and pepto
SkyeDS: stomach still not happy even so
evile: wow...that's a lot of medicine!
evile: I like the Alka Seltzer 'cold' tabs, they do it all.
SkyeDS: usually either dayquil/excedrin or sudafed/excedrin combo
does very well on sinus headache
SkyeDS: just tears tummy up, no matter what I do
evile: yup.
evile: We saw Kill Bill V2 last night at the Alamo Drafthouse. Dollar
night ain't all its cracked up to be, but it was worth it. I like
drinking beer & watching movies on a big screen. AND no sproggies!
SkyeDS: didn't know Alamo did dollar night
evile: Admission is the same, but it's $1 sodas & popcorn. If you
stick to soda & popcorn it can be a cheap date.
SkyeDS: I like the $5 matinees or is it $10 that includes pizza and
drink
evile: ? I don't know. It sounds like a good deal, though.
evile: They had a preview/ad for a thing that looked pretty cool, a 2
hour train ride to a 'secret location' where there would be some
hokey old movie. Buster keaton, I think. But I can't find info on
their web page. That might have been a good bday prezzie for Sweetie.
SkyeDS: maybe. if he would appreciate it.
SkyeDS: hill country flyer?
SkyeDS: and it might be on their website
evile: He likes trains. & he made enthusiastic sounds when the
preview/ad was on.
SkyeDS: then hit the alamo site and see if it's there
evile: I can't find shit. I guess it's not meant to be.
SkyeDS: could call them and ask...
evile: I can't use the phone during the day at work. *shrug*
evile: Aha! Just found it. Alamo's website is one of the user-
unfriendliest things I've ever seen.
SkyeDS: tell me bout it (staring at it now)
evile: It's just incredibly BUSY.
evile: The train ride is $45 per person. food and drink are included.
I should probably make sure Sweetie has no other plans before I fork over.
SkyeDS: nods
evile: I'll check with him after work & order them tonight if
possible.
evile: Did I tell you my Enell bra almost killed me? I am returning
them.
SkyeDS: too big too little too what?
evile: crushed my ribs, did NOT allow me to draw a full breath,
HOWEVER allowed my tits to jounce all over the place. Very
unsatisfying experience
SkyeDS: yuck.
evile: What is annoying is that I am NOT a wierd size, or even a
particularly BIG size, so WhyTF can't I find a damn workout bra!??
SkyeDS: I have no clue
SkyeDS: I am not a bra expert by any stretch of imagination
SkyeDS: I suppose having them custommade is always a last resort
evile: Ugh.
evile: I followed their sizing directions, so I don't know what the
deal is. I hope they actually refund my $ when I return the bras...
SkyeDS: me too. sorry it didn't work out, I love mine :-/
evile: Yeah, well. Everybody's diffrerent. J-Law swears by Victorias
Secret, none of their stuff fits me for shit.
SkyeDS: I could only dream of Vicky's or Freddy's.
SkyeDS: I hit 36DD at age 12, when I was still perfect weight, and
Vicky's/Freddy's idea of large is size 14.
evile: Frederick's usually does OK for me.
evile: I don't think Frederick's makes anything "utilitarian",
however. Just slutwear. Which has its place, but perhaps not on the
tennis court or horseback...
SkyeDS: horseback is considered a level 4 activity
SkyeDS: I don't know about tennis
evile: I love my black corset, though. And it's pretty damn
supportive. I would hate to get it all sweaty and nasty though.
SkyeDS: if all else fails buy another corset to use as sport bra.
evile: *shrug* I just dont' want to hang to my knees at age 40
because I've gone and bounced all the collagen out of my boobs
SkyeDS: certainly cheaper than having one made, and better than
settling for less.
evile: this is true.
SkyeDS: I'm going to invest shortly in one like yours with straps.
evile: I like mine a lot.
SkyeDS: then you should invest in more. wise investment.
evile: yup.
evile: It's not perfect, but it's likely as good as I'm going to
get 'off the rack' and not custom.
SkyeDS: nods
evile: Maybe I could find a plain one & sew in some lining of some
kind. Wonder if they sell 'coolmax' by the yard?
SkyeDS: what is coolmax?
evile: It's some new 'proprietary' material that is being used in
sports clothing.
evile: The theory is it keeps you drier than regular fabrics by
wicking the moisture off your skin.
SkyeDS: I wonder if it's the same as microfiber
evile: No idea.
SkyeDS: which is renamed polyester
evile: Probably just a different brand name for the same ol' thing.
SkyeDS: I bet it is
SkyeDS: I think it's funny that people are paying so much for
polyester
SkyeDS: I bet they wouldn't if they knew that it was polyester
SkyeDS: on top of that
SkyeDS: polyester is cheaper for the manufacturers to use than cotton
SkyeDS: and because they give it fancy names
SkyeDS: they charge MORE for the product than for cotton
evile: there may be cotton weaves that are cooler and keep your
clothes from sticking to you, for all I know.
SkyeDS: don't know about that
SkyeDS: but I bet if consumers knew that polyester was cheaper than
cotton
SkyeDS: they wouldn't be paying MORE for polyester products than
cotton products
SkyeDS: thereby forcing the prices down where they should be
evile: It's no biggie for tennis, I come straight home & take a
shower. But out riding I'd like to be un-sticky
SkyeDS: I had a similar revelation concerning fly spray
SkyeDS: I looked at a bottle of "horse spray"
SkyeDS: 5% pymethrin, one gallon, huge ass bottle, $18.
SkyeDS: then I looked at a bottle of cattle concentrate
SkyeDS: 10% pymethrin
SkyeDS: itty bitty bottle
SkyeDS: makes 18 gallons
SkyeDS: same price
evile: wow. It's all packaging...
SkyeDS: I'm like, ok, so I have to mix and measure this myself, so
fucking what
SkyeDS: and I get twice the coverage
SkyeDS: whereas horse spray lasts maybe a week if it doesn't rain
SkyeDS: cowspray goes 28 days if it doesn't rain
evile: wow.
SkyeDS: one of those duh moments
SkyeDS: where I figured out something no doubt the manufacturers
didn't want me to kow
SkyeDS: like when I bought Arthur's traveling cage, the foldable one
SkyeDS: that's a german shepherd dog cage
SkyeDS: $100
SkyeDS: a "bird" cage, same size $300 and up
evile: that is crazy.
SkyeDS: only difference, direction of bars
SkyeDS: (and lack of perches)
evile: which you can install yourself for far less than the $200
price diff!!!
SkyeDS: you know I went round w/ Joanie about Mane & Tail shampoo
right?
evile: Yeah, I remember that.
SkyeDS: first off, I am friendly with the owners of a few of the
world's top Arabians right now
SkyeDS: none of them use Mane & Tail
SkyeDS: they use stuff they got at the dollar store
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: "it makes my hair grow faster"
SkyeDS: no, darlin, it coats your hair, makes it heavier.
SkyeDS: almost all horse products are people products - in packages 3
times the size, but that *cost* 9 times as much
evile: I've learned not to bother correcting people unless they're
doing someting actively dangerous to themselves. No harm in letting
people believe X product works or whatever.
evile: If you think you've got a lucky shirt, OK, that's your
business. If you think __ product makes you
faster/smarter/stronger/prettier..well, maybe if you think it, it
will. Doesn't hurt me to have people thinking silly things.
SkyeDS: I know. was pointless. and she got very mad at me.
SkyeDS: I pick my battles more carefully now.
SkyeDS: I caught myself doing it yesterday w/ Jinx.
SkyeDS: over horses and stalls.
evile: She is apt to get mad quite easily. I try not to say mor
ethan 'hi' and 'bye' whenever I see her.
evile: (your MIL, not Sharjinka)
SkyeDS: so I said, I'll agree to disagree with her, she said ok, ad
kept right on going <sigh> so I logged off temporarily
evile: You have to get better about reinforcing your boundaries, dear.
SkyeDS: logging off > boundary
evile: Nope. You could have logged off for any number of reasons.
Sharjinka probably didn't realize she was 'continuing' the argument
and will continue the behavior.
SkyeDS: Jinx revealed her ignorance of the subject matter the
minute she said the "professional barns" she's worked at keep
registered racing TBs in barbwire
evile: Next time you talk to her, she may even be more aggressive
about it.
SkyeDS: I told her, ok, well, if you're goinng to adopt an LSER
horse, do'nt tell them about your barbwire plans
SkyeDS: because they won't let you have their horses if you tell them
that
SkyeDS: I know what I know and no point in arguing with her over it
evile: It's best when reinforcing a boundary to actually, verbally do
so. Even if all you do is repeat "I am agreeing to disagree" every
time the subject comes up.
SkyeDS: she's already proved that horses are a pipe dream for her.
evile: Because silence can be interpreted any number of ways,
including "I won!"
SkyeDS: that's true.
evile: Either "I'm agreeing to disagree" or "I don't want to talk
about this anymore".
SkyeDS: hard not to say "whatever." (inflammatory)
evile: I know.
evile: BRB - potty break. Gotta go to another floor--the ones on our
floor are out of service.
SkyeDS: yuck!
evile: It's probably some kind of violation to have us working here
without a functional toilet on our floor.
SkyeDS: no doubt
SkyeDS: I hated how far away the bathroom was at IBM
evile: More Mercury Retrograde fun, I guess
SkyeDS: Merc Ret shouldn't last more than 3 weeks, I *think*
evile: Last day is 4/30, I think.
SkyeDS: hope so for sake of event this weekend
SkyeDS: don't need people taking me wrong all weekend long
evile: heh. I hear ya.
2157Re: icq w/A
Apr. 27, 2004
evile: Jinx issues? comptuter problems? neither?
evile: see, now I am wondering if *I'm* the one pissing you off :P
SkyeDS: lol
SkyeDS: boss
SkyeDS: boss's puter likes to reboot itself
SkyeDS: on its own volition
evile: nice.
SkyeDS: eventually will talk him into nice new cheap dell
evile: they get cheaper all the time.
SkyeDS: there's already one system that's as cheap as the no name
system he bought his daughter
evile: Max works at Dell, gets an empoyee discount, etc. and STILL
waited a long time before he finally got what he wanted in his price
range. Some people ar picky.
SkyeDS: in this case, not picky, stingy
evile: that too, I guess.
SkyeDS: his puter will have to completely crap out before he buys a
new one
SkyeDS: which means he will lose data if he's not careful
SkyeDS: like...all of it.
evile: We know people who do hard disk recovery. or whatever its
called.
SkyeDS: yes
SkyeDS: and it costs. lots.
SkyeDS: much cheaper to buy new system & make complete backups
regularly
evile: True.
SkyeDS: reverse those lol
evile: yup :)
evile: Sweetie's making a new box to house 'Jesus'. he shorted it or
grounded it or something last night. VERY po-ed Sweetie
evile: night before last. not last night.
SkyeDS: nods
evile: Now the dead computer parts & pieces & carcass will lie around
in the livig room until he gets new boards/whatever. argh.
SkyeDS: M got boxes to do something E couldn't, po-d sweetie.
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: puters are like men (to quote Acadiana) "difficult and exotic
creatures"
evile: i guess the only thing better than live-in tech support, is 2
live in tech supports. :P
SkyeDS: M does'nt know squat about hardware.
evile: neither do i.
SkyeDS: from my pov, I didn't care how things came to be working, I
just wanted them to work.
evile: heh. exactly.
evile: Sineater tends to do the 'make a watch when you ask what time it
is' thing...
SkyeDS: and watch doesn't always tell correct time either.
SkyeDS: but in general, he and sonar0m work better together than
either alone
evile: "BUT IT WORKS! " Sineater will argue back :P
SkyeDS: it doesn't always work, lol
evile: It' sgood that you have sweeties who get along. Terri from
poly group wants more of a situation like that, but right now she's
got 1 sweetie who doesn't want anything to do with any of the others.
SkyeDS: Kaleon was like that.
SkyeDS: those usually end up being past tense
SkyeDS: (I have had two uncooperatives become past tense for exactly
that reason)
evile: yeah. I can see making special time to spend 1-on-1, but there
just aren't enough hours in a day to do that all the time.
SkyeDS: nope
SkyeDS: and no inclination to make the effort to find the time,
because uncooperativeness is unpleasant and annoying
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: the squeaky wheel does not get grease from me
SkyeDS: it gets replaced.
evile: heh.
SkyeDS: it would be nice if things were as easy as Stranger in a
Strange Land, but I have yet to see anyone that fortunate
evile: That's why it's FICTION, darling.
SkyeDS: besides STDs making that impossible practically
SkyeDS: a lot of subcultures base themselves almost entirely on
fiction
SkyeDS: like Norman's Gor (shudder)
SkyeDS: Mists of Avalon/21 lessons of Merlyn, etc
evile: And they are short lived little subcultures for all that. :)
SkyeDS: lot of Wicca is based on Heinlein
SkyeDS: "They're more guidelines than rules, ya see" ~ Geoffrey Rush
as Captain Barbossa
evile: Wicca? really? That's a new one on me.
SkyeDS: yes.
SkyeDS: Church of All Worlds adn others.
evile: CAW isn't what I'd call 'wicca' really....
SkyeDS: it incorporates them
evile: Ok.
SkyeDS: and lots of little individual Wiccans who don't claim
Gardnerian or Alexandrian descent see Heinlein as anthem.
evile: sad.
SkyeDS: I used to get into it frequently with a friend of mine who is
an Alexandrian HP
SkyeDS: he kept saying that my path is left handed
SkyeDS: I finally said, look, I'm tired of going around about this.
Wtf do you get that anyway
evile: Heinlen's other writings are quite Republican in tone. Like
Far Right republican. Not in terms of religion, but socially.
SkyeDS: "it's in our Book of Shadows"
evile: I like believing whatever books tell me. It's easier than
thinking. :P
SkyeDS: Heinlein never lived what he wrote, nor espoused it
(particularly SIASL)
SkyeDS: I said look
evile: SIASL?
SkyeDS: Stranger in a Strange Land
evile: oh right. nevermind. sorry.
evile: Heinlen believed in stuff like compulsory military service for
all people wishing to have voting rights.
SkyeDS: first of all, I get tired of answering the same question over
ad over againn, especially when it's just couched in different words
SkyeDS: and secondly, what are you implying
SkyeDS: that you did'nt believe me the first half a dozen times I
answered you?
SkyeDS: that I'm either lying or stupid?
evile: I'd like to see all the newage longhaired fat-asses take THAT
part of Heinlen to heart & march their little facist butts off to war.
SkyeDS: perhaps you would like to backtrack and explain what you
really meant to imply, because I"m sure you didn'nt mean to imply
either one of those things, because then we would be fighting :)
SkyeDS: that was in Starship Troopers, and they retained it in nthe
movie
evile: Facist. That was the word I was looking for. Heinlen was quite
the facist.
SkyeDS: so it isn't obscure anymore or shouldn't be
evile: That idea was in more than 1 of his books, actually.
SkyeDS: yes
SkyeDS: but it was on the big screen mainstream in ST.
evile: Yup. I was glad to see it. Even though it does rather scarily
reflect real world ideals at the mo'.
SkyeDS: I do have a heinleinn quote I like
SkyeDS: I don'nt remember whether it was ST or one of his other bug
books
SkyeDS: but the character Felix says something to the effect of, I
expect to die. One day one bug is going to kill me. But it isn't
going to be the motherfucker I just shot.
evile: Heh.
SkyeDS: it keeps me from feeling overwhelmed, specially latetly.
evile: I rather dig _the notebooks of lazarus long_ for nice little
epigrams.
evile: "All's fair in love and war--what a contemptible lie"
evile: "Everything in excess--moderation is for monks"
SkyeDS: Hugh has the second one on his puter
evile: figures :)
evile: The great thing about being a fiction writer is that you can
have characters which do more fun stuff & get away with more than you
ever could...I imagine if Heinlen had lived in a different era, he
might have done more living along his philosophical principles.
evile: But in RL you have to take care of obligations, pay the bills,
live in a house, etc. Which my hero AC didn't really understand, so
he lived exactly according to his fictional ideals, and caught icky
diseases & died broke and sick.
SkyeDS: AC got taken for a ride inn Italy I'm afraid
evile: I can appreciate ideals like free love and tribe and
whatnot...but I gotta work and pay bills before I can go larking off
into la la land.
evile: So...for me 'excess in moderation' works better. :P
SkyeDS: some things are better in excess and some in moderation, imo
evile: I just have to remember that everything has a price, and more
and more things will leave me hurting hte next day...gotta respect
the limits RL imposes. Gravity works.
evile: And the older I get the longer it takes me to recover from
excesses of any kind, good or bad...so I have to take that into
consideration. Is the price worth the cost? I'll still eat a pound of
Godiva at a sitting, but a pound of Hershey's isn't worth it
anymore ;)
SkyeDS: agreed
evile: And I am constantly learning & re-learning that things that
are good for me need not be unpleasurable.
SkyeDS: generally speaking most things are more bearable at least
with company
evile: heh.
evile: wow...I need to get going soon!
evile: Today was pretty screwed up but at least it passed quickly.
SkyeDS: yep
SkyeDS: wind to your wings, bella
evile: The fire drill that ate half my lunch hour notwithstanding!
evile: *hugs* Take care of you!
SkyeDS: ditto :)
