Do narcissists ever regret losing someone, or do they perceive that all people are simply interchangeable?

Narcs regret losing people the same way you might regret losing a childhood toy that ended up becoming a valuable collector’s item. The thought and emotional process is about the same. They play with you and throw you away and then if you go on to gain value (complete a degree, get a well-paying or prestigious job, join a gym and get into great shape, etc.) they may think “oh, I should have hung on to that, now they are worth more and I could have gotten more out of them”

But they won’t regret their abusive behavior towards the discarded one, they won’t take responsibility for their actions and what they did wrong to drive a person away, and they won’t ever become a better person in response to the fact that they threw a human being away and now see that the person had some additional value they could have possibly exploited further.
