TUESDAY

ENCOUNTER IN THE FOREST
One day while walking in the woods
not far from home ,
I entered a part of the forest
that was usually avoided
by most nature lovers,
mainly because of the dangerous wildlife
reputed to
inhabit there.
Accidentally wandering that far in,
I saw quickly that
there was no danger, no sign of life,
just a magnificent array of
blossoms and trees,
flowering bushes and aromatic plants.

It was intoxicating.

All at once I came upon a startling sight--
a creature, quite hideous
to behold at first,

was lying in a small clearing.

The beast, I say beast, because
although it bore the features of a tortured man,
it was still quite animal-like,
and crying out piteously.

As I approached, its plaintive cries
touched my soul–a cry as chilling
and disheartening as the cry of our Lord
on that fateful Friday so
long ago. His, or its, voice was
as gentle as a woman’s but deep and
gruff as a man’s.

The creature was surrounded by blood,
and as I dared approach a bit closer,
our eyes met. It was then
that I perceived,
desapite its ghastly, twisted,
primitive form, the profound humanness
and sweetness within its horrific body.

"I’m dying,," it whispered
in a croaking voice..

It was as if I were
on the hill of Golgotha itself .
Tenderness and love flowed from me,
and I had to stifle a cry of anguish myself.

"Come no closer,"it muttered.
"Disease."

Naturally I stepped back at once,
but the creature continued to extend
its arms, begging for help.

I stood in utter confusion before it.
My own sense of humanity
forbade me to flee.
I approached despite its warning
and knelt beside it.

"How can I help? What can I do?
You are bleeding profusely. Are you ill?
How did this happen?

"I prayed you would come," it said.

I crouched beside it,
and lifting its head,
I let it to rest upon my knee.

The creature closed its eyes peacefully.

I was overcome with love
for this mangled being and drawn
closer by its gratitude.
I wedged myself beneath its body
to protect it from the damp earth.

"Rest now,," I whispered.

For a few moments there
utter peace of the Universe
fell upon the entire forest.

"Suddenly without no warning,
the creature lowered its head and sank
yelllow rotting fangs deep into my thigh.
As I gasped and writhed in pain,
the thing rose slowly,
majestically,
as if familiar with the ritual,
and limped away,
turning briefly to show its teeth,
and mutter,
"You fucking asshole."

Moral of the story: CHOOSE ONE

1. If you see a stranger in trouble, don't stop to help.
2. If you come upon a wounded animal, call a professional agency.
3. Keep a compassionate heart open, but maintain proper boundaries.
4.Michael Lutin is a major downer/mental case
5. You can't cure everybody.
