A few days ago, I started hearing from a lot of friends that a large employer in our area was laying people off. My brother works there, so I started wondering/hoping out loud about the possibility of his layoff and whether he would get free if he was no longer bringing home a paycheck, therefore no longer of use to Termite Queen.
My mom emailed me yesterday to say that indeed my brother was one of the laid off, that he would be cashing in his retirement and using his severance to keep them afloat.
I shouldn't hope. I am sure it doesn't occur to him that it would be a good time to get gone...in times past, he's been laid off and at one point when he was going to leave her, he told me he couldn't afford to leave, or get a place of his own, or chip in on anything if he came to stay with me because he "owes her so much"....I don't really get how he works, gives her his paycheck, then spends a few months unemployed and ends up agreeing to "Owe" her money for the few months he wasn't supporting her fat ass? I mean, if anything, she should owe HIM, because she has only worked very sporadically during their marriage, and he works like a dog for her, both around the house and in support of her (non profitable, of course) "business" when he's not at his paid job.
I know he's cashed out his retirement before. I know they have awful debts. I know she has taken money from her parents. I don't know if they were considered gifts or loans....but if her parents supported them while he was out of work, wouldn't he owe THEM money, and not her??
