evile: I'm back. Stupid computer.
SkyeDS: wb
evile: I really wish I could dl firefox, I use it at home now and
it's much nicer than IE.
SkyeDS: yep
SkyeDS: only thing I use IE for is webmail because that's the only
thing compatible with it
evile: *nod* yahoo games & launchcast don't like firefox, but that's
about all I've found so far.
SkyeDS: I play yahoo out of firefox, weird
evile: could be one of the spiffy anti-whatever programs Greg gave
me, too...I guess?
SkyeDS: settings somewhere maybe
evile: NO telling.
SkyeDS: yahoo games = java
SkyeDS: I think I had to tell firefox to install java, I don't
remember
evile: hm. Next time I'm online at home I'll give it a shot.
evile: I wonder...if HFS lets the res. go, if they'd let someone else
take it over. the "bi pagan poly gamer geek" group has been talking
about having a gathering. I could give Erin the info, and she'd
totally run with it, I'm sure.
SkyeDS: I'd be more than willing to help too
evile: that's probably an LJ community you could join with impunity :)
http://www.livejournal.com/userinfo.bml?user=bipolypagangeek
SkyeDS: I remember when it started :)
SkyeDS: <reads your friends list as well as mine
evile: *nod*
evile: I worry that Jinx won't be agressive enough with the guy and
it'll all just slide.
SkyeDS: that wouldn't surprise me
SkyeDS: but it's a fine line to walk, how to let someone know that
you're upset without it being seen as an attack
SkyeDS: ie, being assertive v being a bully
evile: I wonder if there's a way to get directly with the park and be
on a waiting list or something for if the reservation gets dropped.
That might be easier than changing 'ownership' of the res, if it
turns out that HFS doesn't want it at all.
SkyeDS: if they weren't expecting over 80 people I'd volunteer the
ranch
SkyeDS: but I don't t hink the ranch can hold 100 - 200 p eople
SkyeDS: I don't mind 30 people or fewer in the house using bathrooms
for one day
SkyeDS: but more than 30 for more than one day and they'd better be
renting field showers and porta potties
evile: Niki and I talked about Big Fun, and she says she could pull
off a similar event at Bastrop State Park for a lot less than $30-40
a person.
SkyeDS: if it's more than $15 per everyone will bitch.
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: it was $23 per at QVR in Kerrville and everybody bitched (but
me)
evile: everyone at HFS would. But Gamer/geek/poly/pagan are used to
paying much more than that for their cons/ritual weekends/etc.
SkyeDS: of course we are.
SkyeDS: war was $1000 for three of us and two horses
SkyeDS: would have been $800 if I hadn't gone shopping in the market
SkyeDS: $170 for the three of us at Cbar. (two riders one nonrider)
SkyeDS: ESA, CMA, you name it
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: and QVR was quite lovely
SkyeDS: had I known it was that rocky I would have shod the horses,
but other than that
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: Rita's been trying to help him for the longest, and I've been
helping her (in site location)
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: Lake Braunig in SA would be ideal
evile: it looked cool.
SkyeDS: Lake Somerville WOULD HAVE BEEN but we didn't ask for that
timely enough
SkyeDS: Tanglewood (amtgard) would be good too, except for the whole
primitive thing
evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: dom perignon tastes, schaeffer lite budget
evile: heh.
evile: me too, but I'm realistic about it.
SkyeDS: you accomplish it, about as well as you can
SkyeDS: and you know when you have to pay for Godiva truffles to get
Godiva truffles
SkyeDS: balance thing. I can't cheat here, so where can I cheat to
balance where I can't.
evile: If I've got a buck 38 to spend, I'd rather spend it on a
Godiva than a bag of M&Ms.
evile: but if I want a box of Godiva's, I will just have to wait
until I have $30.
SkyeDS: Kim Bush (the younger from SA) is partly to blame too
SkyeDS: she refuses to accept any site w/o enclosed kitchen/hall
SkyeDS: and then most of feast supposedly is going to be cold
evile: bizarre.
SkyeDS: I liked last year's site, as many people did.
SkyeDS: David doesn't, because lightning hit a tree and it crashed
on his tent (and he was originally autocrat for all of less than two
weeks before getting sent overseas and giving it to ronnie)
SkyeDS: which wasn't at all like Elf getting halfway through before
giving it to Mike and Rita (who had been helping for mo nths already
and had a clue)
SkyeDS: not to mention Rita gives some of the best parties in HFS,
long long experience
SkyeDS: the Kitchen is sucky but that's it, so what, you deal
evile: yeah.
evile: Terri H did a great job as kitchen witch for poly big fun, she
did the majority of prep before the event, and as a result she didn't
have to do a whole lot at the event itself, other than some stir fry,
warm up type stuff.
evile: As a result she got to sit around in the kitchen and visit
with people, which led to a couple of people thinking she'd just sat
on her ass the whole time. Sorry to say, when you do something REALLY
REALLY well, you make it look easy and some people get resentful.
evile: I've been on the receiving end of that so much, it was pretty
amazing to see it from the other side...and I can't say I care for it
much, either way.
evile: Those who can, DO, those who can't ought to shut their fuckin'
holes and be appreciative of those who DO.
SkyeDS: nodnodnodnods
SkyeDS: stay out of my way while I'm busy doing what you said I can't
do, would you please mmkay? thanks :)
evile: yup.
SkyeDS: one element of a superlative performance IS that it look
effortless
SkyeDS: assuming it IS effortless is...well...
SkyeDS: like Bridget's Ballet du Cheval, which took honorable mention
in an A&S competition, because the judges thought it was too easy
SkyeDS: never having been on a horse they didn't know any better
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: they wanted advanced, level 4 FEI/Olympic Grand Prix shit,
like flying lead changes in 1 and 2 (the skipping effect)
SkyeDS: Bridget is only like level 2 fer chrissakes
SkyeDS: it's easy for me because Mirage seems to have talent for it,
and I have musical and dance background
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: but it's like, play a 3 part bach sinfonia and everybody's
all, that's nice
SkyeDS: play "lean on me" from t he radio and everybody's blown away
(four chords)
evile: yup. same here--make cheesecake from scratch and coworkers are
all 'yawn', make shit from a box and they're all "wow!! yay! Sugar!"
SkyeDS: makes you want to bang your head on the wall so you'll feel
better, don't it?
SkyeDS: any cheesecake your office bovines don't want you can always
send in this direction :)
evile: eh, I pretty much cater to my 'audience' these days, don't
make the effort for the people who aren't capable of appreciating it.
SkyeDS: I had dark chocolate brownie cheesecake on M's birthday that
was orgasmic.
evile: sounds good.
evile: my fave is still the caramel turtle fudge cheesecake that
Lamar Sawyer gets for his parties.
SkyeDS: this impromptu party thing is not that hard, I just don't get
it. I threw an impromptu party for M and Keject and everybody had a
good time.
SkyeDS: is that different from the Turtles Cheesecake at Sam's?
SkyeDS: there's some place, Texas French Breads, I think, that flies
in 59 varieties of cheesecake everyday from Rodeo Drive
evile: good lord.
evile: I don't shop at sams, so I have no idea what theirs is like.
Lamar's been getting his from the same place, long before I think
Sam's was a thing, so ....? probably similar, but not the same.
evile: I've never been in TX french bread; I don't need the
temptation.
SkyeDS: amen
evile: Maybe I'll get something there for my bday...still haven't
decided what we're doing....
evile: That and May 1, I'm ordering 35 year old vintage port from K&L
SkyeDS: haven't done Scarby or SchlitterB for birthday in a while,
haven't been to Somerville yet (tried last year, ended up in ER)
SkyeDS: and having a party at Duke's was good too
evile: *nod* sounds like.
SkyeDS: when I was growing up, birthday was always one week long and
involved camping swimming and skiing
SkyeDS: with one best friend
SkyeDS: no presents, no parties
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I had a regular party once, it was VERY disappointing
evile: It *is* disappointing to have a lame party. But it happens.
SkyeDS: would wager it hasn't happened to you in rememorable history
SkyeDS: :P
evile: the last couple of parties I've had were duds.
SkyeDS: define dud. does it depend on what the meaning of the
word "is" is?
evile: the last D'ween party was pretty lame, broke up early, etc.
the picnic at teh park was not very well attended and half the people
there complained about the weather and other such things, nobody
drank the sangria but me, I don't think anyone had fun.
evile: my definition of dud is when I don't have fun and/or feel that
anyone else had fun either.
SkyeDS: nods, fair nuff
SkyeDS: why would anyone rather get unemployment than another job,
when unemp pays 60% of historic wages?
evile: *shrug* NO clue.
SkyeDS: that is so victim / grasshopper mentality.
SkyeDS: (said mentalities offend me as a survivor / ant)
evile: I guess some people would rather get 60% of what they got paid
to work, and stay home with kids/family, do whatever they want
instead of working...if I could survive on a 60% pay cut and do what
I want instead of working, it might be tempting. But I like to pay
bills and eat and silly stuff like that.
SkyeDS: it doesn't last forever.
evile: nope. and not working really does mess with your self esteem.
SkyeDS: and there are many home businesses for work at home moms
(even a website called wahm)
evile: *nod* I don't think it's good or right, but in this society,
we ARE our jobs. So being out of work makes us feel like we are bad
people. On some level. you can't help it, that's our societal
training at work.
SkyeDS: out of work is one thing. staying out of work on purpose to
get unemployment or other welfare is just wrong.
SkyeDS: Sineater and I both as indies spend time out of work but we bust
our butts to make sure that period of time is as short as possible.
evile: nope. And, really, I would rather pay more for goods and
services in order for workers to have a living wage, than pay
unemployment/welfare.
evile: I'd be more sympathetic to a person saying "I only make __ an
hour at my job and I need __ more to pay bills" than someone
saying "I don't work at all, I need money"
SkyeDS: the whole cheat the system thing just aggravates me
evile: Yup. And on that note, time for this little ant to fly on
outta here.
SkyeDS: so tis. wind to your wings :)
evile: have a good evening!
evile: (I'm sure I'll have an entertaining Poly dinner story for you
tomorrow :P)
SkyeDS: :D
