Standby Red 5 has a Smashing Pumpkins/Sonic Youth sort of sound. They didn't sing at all. I was thinking they needed an etherial girl lead singer.
Red Team Go was a little rough, but very energetic. They mostly had a Ramones/Green day sound, with one song that was pure Nirvana-derivation. They seemed to have a pretty enthusiastic following and I suspect they may go places.
Undersoul, of course, ROCKED. They were tight and it was obvious they'd worked and practiced a lot. Thax still has a tiny bit of memorizing to do on lyrics, though! :P
The sound guy at the Red Eyed Fly did a *great* job, everyone sounded really good. Great show. Glad I took the day off work today so I could stay up late and enjoy.
RTG did remind me of Greenday! I would not go as far as calling them a "Ramones derivative" but I can definitely see they had the right attitude. Still neo-punk. Overall their sound is modern but I agree they can go far in their scene.
I am disappointed I did not get to see SBR5. A Pumpkins/Youth melange? Sorry I missed it.
As for Undersoul, I was HIGHLY impressed! I had no idea what they played up until last night. RAWKZ! Yes, the sound was tight and the engineering was superb. No feedback and no other bad stuff. Loved it! Are most songs original? I'm not familiar with any lyrics at this point, but I'm sure someone will accomodate me with some samples.
All the songs that Undersoul performs are original, most lyrics written by Thax and then the band works together to come up with the music. I think either the band's MySpace page or Thax's has lyrics posted.
Apparently we've adopted SBR5. They're invited to crash at my house next time they pass thru town. So hopefully you'll get a chance to hear them then :)

The guys did a GREAT job last night; it was obvious they've been working their butts off, practicing a LOT, and they sounded GREAT.
