evile: Hey, how was your weekend? Did you get rained on?
SkyeDS: not until we were on our way home in the wee hours of Sunday
morning
evile: oh, that's not too bad
SkyeDS: a good time was had by all. [sineater's mom] was a little nutty but
that's snafu
SkyeDS: last time we were there for thanksgiving, I had asked sineater to
make sure it was ok to have the girls *in the trailer* overnight in
front of grammy's house or did we need a motel room (my choice
actually, I like my privacy)
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: so his mother told him it was fine, and so he told me
SkyeDS: so we get there and it isn't fine and the whole family is mad
at me for being hard to deal with
evile: dang.
SkyeDS: so after that, I assume it still isn't fine. and she wanted
us to spend the night Sat night
SkyeDS: and I'm like, um no, the horses can't be out front not even
in the trailer, remember?
evile: wierd
SkyeDS: she btw left me hanging out to dry on Thanksgiving, rather
then pointing out that I had asked permission and was under the
illusion that I had it.
evile: suck.
SkyeDS: so that was the nuttiness, but other than that.
SkyeDS: the movie is for the most part a regurgitation of gladiator
evile: Oh, oh well. good eye candy?
SkyeDS: very pleasing to the eye.
SkyeDS: and gladiator was good, so if you liked gladiator you'll like
this.
evile: I was indifferent to gladiator. it wasn't awful. And I can't
really stand russel crow, so put orlando in his role and I'd be all
good.
SkyeDS: I would call it stock Ridley Scott mythos (in the same way
that all cultures regurgitate some myths - Egyptian, Greek, Roman,
Celtic, Sumerian, Jewish, etc etc etc)
SkyeDS: except, in both instances all of the characters were
historical figures except the Hero.
evile: *nod* I guess that could be annoying or cool, depending on
what kind of history freak you are.
SkyeDS: Ridley gets his big facts straight but doesn't seem to pay
attention to all the small details, depending on how much that bugs
you
SkyeDS: just because I notice something enough to mention it doesn't
necessarily mean it bugs me, just that I noticed.
SkyeDS: for example, the stirrups on the chariot horse in Gladiator
SkyeDS: those could have been cgi'd or whatever else out, I would
think, but weren't.
SkyeDS: and that the chariot horse all the sudden has ten foot riding
reins rather than 20 - 50 foot driving reins
SkyeDS: and in KOH, the arabians are wearing proper headdress and
breast collars, but not blankets
SkyeDS: the important thing being, Arabian blankets were originally
the kind of silk that would shed arrows (important in a war horse)
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: I notice these things, but they aren't deal breakers or
anything
evile: yeah, just funny little things that catch your eye.
SkyeDS: Saladin was great, Liam Neeson was great, and so was Jeremy
Irons, and whomever played Baldwin the Leper
SkyeDS: whomever played the sister could have been a carbon copy of
whomever played the sister in gladiator, right down to eyes and mouth
SkyeDS: no doubt the movie is a political statement about the state
of Xianity v Islam today
evile: I'm sure.
SkyeDS: and Saladin was quite accurately portrayed as the honorable
warrior he was
SkyeDS: and the Xians were portrayed as being honorable (some of them
were) and dishonorable (some of them were), and what they got they
deserved
SkyeDS: I think it's a little misleading though, because in my mind
you cannot begin to compare Saladin to OBL in terms of honor
evile: *nod*
SkyeDS: what OBL did, Saladin would *never* have done, because he was
honorable.
SkyeDS: OBL = more like the idiot Xian half of the movie.
evile: well, at least it wasn't a black and white morality play; that
would be boring.
SkyeDS: I'm sure that black and white mentalities will take it as
such, but you can't control other people and their misguided
perceptions *shrug*
SkyeDS: it is a good reminder that while in the modern situation, the
Muslim radicals were not honorable, there have been points in time
where the Christian radicals weren't honorable either, and it goes
back a LONG way.
evile: exactly.
evile: I finally got to see The Princess Bride from beginning to end,
in a real theatre. That was fun.
SkyeDS: good movie
SkyeDS: I never saw it on the big screen, first time I saw it was in
the basement of Jester on a movie night
evile: bet that was fun :)
evile: OH! I got to meet Captain Jack in mundane wear on Saturday
night :) That was fun.
SkyeDS: I now have Billy Joel's Captain Jack and Johnny D's Captain
Jack inextricably linked together in my head now.
evile: *lol*
SkyeDS: aw, Prince went to someone else. oh well. I hope he's happy
wherever he goes.
evile: that's the horse?
SkyeDS: nodnod
evile: I'm glad he found a home.
evile: Today is just crawling by...I don't know how I can stick it
out for the rest of the week. agh.
SkyeDS: Monday, Monday
evile: Oh well...tonight's girls night, tomorrow's skating, Thursday
is polydinner (assuming Jason posts the info and it's someplace
decent)...so it's not like I am not going to have fun between now and
Scarby.
SkyeDS: yep
evile: the better my RL is, the more tedious work seems....that kinda
sucks.
SkyeDS: work - just time between Important Stuff, necessary to pay
for Important Stuff
evile: yeah...just wish it didn't take up so much of my time :P
SkyeDS: amen
evile: I could use a nap, too...I should find a place to nap during
the work day :P
SkyeDS: <catching up on all the online stuffs that I don't read on
the weekend
evile: *nod* I had to do a bit of that; I've been at lynn & bob's
most of the weekend.
evile: Everyone on LJ is annoying me today. I think it must be me.
SkyeDS: could be. I get distracted taking quizzes, it takes me all
day to read LJ
evile: hehe.
evile: Rengeek said he and Loa were thinking of going to New Orleans
the first week of June, so they might not be at Otter Chaos June 4 :(
SkyeDS: oh well, we'll make it some first saturday eventually
evile: There was one SCAdian in the bunch on Saturday, and he was a
complete ASS, btw.
SkyeDS: nods. I got to deal with acouple of those Saturday.
SkyeDS: unfortunately they were in positions of power.
evile: yuck. that sucks.
SkyeDS: there will probably be fall out too, but I'll burn that
bridge when/if I come to it
evile: *nod* That's all you can do...
SkyeDS: som epeople seem to choose to be upset when there are other
much more viable practical and pleasurable options, and I seem to be
a magnet for finding them
evile: that sucks.
SkyeDS: maybe because I am their polar opposite
SkyeDS: if you don't tell me not to do something, I will default to
doing it
SkyeDS: so I am a magnet for those who default to not doing anything
they don't have explicit permission to do
evile: I would say for me that sort of thing is situational.
SkyeDS: I'm flexible, situational is good for me
SkyeDS: but I tend to call attention to myself from people who are
not flexible in any way fashion or form
SkyeDS: anyway, whatever happens with fallout happens, I can live
with or without these people, I'm going to do what I do and be happy,
and they can join me, or they can go fuck themselves, I really don't
care which :)
evile: *nod*
evile: well, time for me to get gone (finally!!!) I'll talk at ya
tomorrow. have a good evening!
SkyeDS:wind to your wings :)
