Quora: Are there any laws against narcissistic behavior?
Narcissistic people want to think they are special and that the rules don’t apply to them. They will overstep boundaries and harm other people to get their way. They often lie and tend to believe their own lies and push other people to accept their warped version of reality.
They often do get away with breaking the law, but having narcissistic personality disorder in itself is not illegal. They surround themselves with enablers who put up with their bad behavior and make excuses for it, up to and including refusing to press charges when the narcissist perpetrates an assault on them, and even posting their bail to get them released from jail.
It’s not illegal to be a selfish jerk and it isn’t illegal to lie about many (most) things, but it is illegal to assault people, to make threats, to steal from them, to hit them, kick them, spit on them, prevent them from leaving a house or other building, etc. If the narcissist can be documented perpetrating verbal or physical abuse, taking things that don’t belong to them and were not given to them freely, or preventing people from leaving a house where the narcissist is yelling at them, hurting or threatening them, then, yes, those behaviors can be prosecuted. Unfortunately the victims usually forgive them, make excuses & rationalizations for the behavior, and drop the charges before anything can happen.
