Quora: Will a narcissist eventually get annoyed when they can’t get a new supply as pretty as you?

Will a narcissist eventually get annoyed when they can’t get a new supply as pretty as you? Or do they just start looking for money and status?


When you’ve been devalued, the narc no longer sees you as being attractive or desirable. No matter what piece of shiny trash they pick up next, they will be parading that all over social media and wherever else as “look how much more wonderful my new shiny is than my dirty old ex,”

One narc I know has a definite physical ‘type’ they prefer. As time has gone on, each new person, while adhering to the ‘type’ is not as attractive as the previous one. Like a blurry copy of a blurry copy of the original. They can’t get high quality, super attractive ones, but there are enough similarities in appearances that you can see the type.

In my observation, narcissists are more about quantity than quality--be it lovers, food, drugs, pets, material possessions, whatever.  So having 3 really unattractive boyfriends or girlfriends who are picking the corn out of their poop and calling it ‘gold’ is better to the narc than 1 really hot one who isn’t so into them. Plus, once they’ve trashed you, they no longer see you as pretty.

They evaluate each new contact for potential benefits, be that ‘new sex’ or ‘new follower/flying monkey’ or ‘this person has money’ or ‘this person has toys I want.’ They are always in it for whatever they can get. If their new person isn’t as objectively attractive, that’s maybe not as important as the thrill of having a new toy and more supply.
