EJ 12/23/02
- Dec. 23, 2002I found out yesterday that my 15 year old cousin B spent the
weekend in Juvenile lockup for possession of marijuana. His mother
said it was 'his choice'. No...until he's 18, his choices are the
parents' responsibility. L was mad because originally the plan had
been to pick him up on Friday, but then Melissa said B wanted to
spend Xmas "with her", so that explains perfectly why he was in
Kerrville in a car full of kids, who got pulled over because the
driver was speeding, and the cop decided to search them, and Ben got
locked up for the weekend. Jeez. Anyway...more family drama. The
juvie-lockup gravy on the mashed potatoes that are A's face/E
&A's marriage.
*sigh*
fucking Christmas.
Rio's party was faboo, however. It was Rio, her hubby,
Mike, her son Jaden, Dee and her daughter Josephine,
Dee's cousin Darnell, and Rio's cool coworkers, Burl
and Monica and Monica's son Zachary. The kids played &
enjoyed themselves. The grownups did, too. Burl was
hilarious--Rio has a part Cairn Terrier puppy and he
was doing a little "Scottish voice" for her, making
her beg for Guinness and demand haggis and stuff. His
timing was so good, his voice and her little
doggy-expressions just fit together perfectly. It was
a riot. Rio's puppy is named Jade, and she's a
sweetie. She looks like a Benji-dog. We all had a
really great visit--I haven't laughed so much in ages. Talked about
steel wheel skates & skateboards that would spark when you got going.
No safety for us! Talked about all the horrible candy we had growing
up--lick a sticks and all that. It was just fun. Burl is a stitch!
Darnell told us this horror story about seeing a lady at the grocery
store with armpit hair to her waist! AGH! It was hilarious. Such a
great time.
We went to the trail of lights in Zilker park last
night with X & fam, which was really fun, despite
the fact that it rained on us a bit. So it's not all
bad. Even though M wants us to fill out hsi 'funeral pre planning'
questionnaire for his new job so he can get a $50 bonus for "doing
his presentation" for us. The presentation is 1.5-2 hrs long, so I'm
grateful to just have the quiz.
Oh well. Decemberween is gonna be great, I have the rest of the week
off from work...so life isn't all bad. I need to focus on the good
stuff and forget about the bad stuff that I can't do anything about,
anyway.
- Dec. 23, 2002Joe Strummer from The Clash died last night. :(
And Push Down & Turn is breaking up. :(
http://www.pdtrock.com/
Friends,
It is with mixed emotions that I confirm the recent rumors about my
decision to leave Push Down & Turn. Let me start my saying that this
decision was not made lightly, easily, or with any ill feelings
toward anyone in our organization. Indeed Sam, Matt, Tay, Jason, Rob
and I have remained the closest of friends throughout the band's 10-
year history and I have no reason to suspect that we will not remain
the closest of friends after my departure from the group.
Over the last several years, all of us have experienced increased
demands on our time that have left us very little remaining to
continue our growth together musically as a group. While I still feel
that our shows have been a positive and entertaining experience for
both fans and band members alike, we have been unable to produce new
material and practice together to improve as we did during the band's
earlier years.
In light of my departure and for many of the same reasons that I have
decided to leave, it has been the unanimous decision of the band
members that Push Down & Turn will officially dissolve following our
show January 18th, 2003 at the Patio in Broadripple. Although
definite future plans for all of us are currently undecided, I can
report that Jason, Tay, Matt, and Sam intend to continue to practice
and write together. As for me, I plan to explore new musical avenues
and collaborate with others wherever a mutual creative interest may
exist. All of us will remain in Indianapolis and intend to remain a
part of the music scene as it continues to grow.
Although I am sad to be leaving such a big part of my life to start
new things, I can say that I would never have continued on as long as
I have without the love and support of my band mates and our
wonderful fans. I hope all of you continue to visit our website as it
will become a place to remember our history together as well as a
place to find out about what the members are currently up to. We will
all keep the site updated with any events involving any or all of us
and the bulletin board will continue to entertain us all I'm sure.
I'd like to conclude with a thank you to everyone who has come to see
the band and who has been involved in any way with the group. You've
all contributed to a very cherished time in my life and I'm truly
grateful for all the experiences over the last 10 years. I'm left
with a thousand great memories, life long friendships, and a great
sense of accomplishment and satisfaction with the work that we've
done. God bless you all and I hope that our paths continue to cross
in the future.

Push Down & Turn- Dec. 23, 2002Their 2nd-to-last show is new year's eve in Indianapolis. I found a
round trip ticket for $232, and then the hotel package is $299. That
is too much just for nostalgia value...:(
And they'll be playing their last show while Jess & I are in Vegas.
