2149Monday

    Apr. 26, 2004

I totally screwed up my sleep schedule this weekend by
going to the movies so late Saturday and then sleeping
half of Sunday. I couldn't fall asleep at my regular
time last night so I'm just DRAGGING today.

Oh well. It's Monday, nobody expects too much from me.

Sweetie is giving notice to his new Wayport job today in
order to take yet another new job at AMD starting May
    10. It's a bit more $ than the Wayport gig, it's more
what he likes to do, AND they have a $7000/year
tuition reimbursement plan, so he's thinking of going
back to school to get a degree.

Having everyone around me doing new things and
expanding themselves is making me realize how terribly
dull and small my life is :(

Oh well. I'm still fixing mistakes from my past. Once
those get fixed, maybe I can move forward again.

EJ IM with Skye 4/26/04

2150 ICQ w/A

    Apr. 26, 2004

evile: How was your weekend? Eeyore's got postponed until the 1st
    SkyeDS: figures, rai
SkyeDS: we didn't make much $ because of the rain, but it did stop
raining so we gave rides half the day
    SkyeDS: and had a blast
SkyeDS: the SCA does marvelous things for children
evile: yup. I was sleepy & mostly useless all weekend. I'm glad you
    had a good time :)
    SkyeDS: the HFS does nothing.
evile: HFS doesn't do anything for anybody, far as I can see...except
    maybe the knights/popular kids.
SkyeDS: the SCA does everything for its kids, fighting, arts/sciences
    ad service
    SkyeDS: any kid, any age
    evile: that's cool.
SkyeDS: nothing more fun than playing with kids all day long, and
going home to my childless home, while they go home with their
    parents :)
    evile: heh. I hear that!
SkyeDS: I didn't miss eeyore's not one damn bit
SkyeDS: there were NO parentless out of control unsupervised children
evile: That's good. You could still go, since it's been postpned.
SkyeDS: NO bird dogs on leashes held by drunk people trying to eat
    Arthur.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: going to Huntsville for an event next weekend
    evile: oh wow.
SkyeDS: although I am going to look into attending Eeyore's as a
    vendor next year
    SkyeDS: separate from HFS
    evile: That might be cool.
SkyeDS: and only if it isn't the same weeked as our youth academy
    again
    evile: right.
SkyeDS: I met one of Sharjinka's ex boyfriends this weekend. Who made
the commetn that she isn't as smart as she thinks she is.
SkyeDS: we just had a somewhat lengthy debate about the alleged
virtues of keeping horses stallbound <sigh>
SkyeDS: I finally offered to agree to disagree, to which she agreed,
and kept right on goingn <shrug>
evile: Gee, wonder why she isn't with HIM anymore. He sounds like
    such a prince.
evile: You and Sharjinka or you and her ex?
SkyeDS: lol she doesn't even remember him
    SkyeDS: me and Chelle
    evile: oh.
SkyeDS: she can keep hers stallbound all she wants, while my
pocketbook is much healthier, because I"m not paying for all the vet
care necessary to take care of all the problems stalls cause.
evile: I don't know enough about it to even have an educated opinion.
SkyeDS: and I'm sorry, but no, I"m not going to help her train out
the problems keeping retired racing TBs stall bound causes either.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I have decided, if I'm going to train, the thinng about the
horse bidness I hate the most, I'm going to be picky.
    evile: Makes sense
SkyeDS: I had been pondering that for some time, and then I got my
first magazines from one of my long time idols (John Lyons), and it
said, don't even take on a training horse unless you and the owner
come to an agreement and the owner participates.
SkyeDS: which is about the conclusion I came to on my own the hard
    way
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: ack. what's last thinng you said?
    evile: "yup."
    SkyeDS: LOL
evile: You had just mentioned a magazine article that backs up your
own experience re: training with owner involvement.
SkyeDS: just wish I had read that before I figured it out the hard
    way.
evile: Yeah...learning from other peoples experiences/mistakes is
    easier :P
SkyeDS: apparently Sharjinka's trip to Dallas this weekend was at least
partially successful, and she had a good time at Scarbie.
    evile: I'm glad.
    SkyeDS: nndos
    SkyeDS: err nods
evile: I want to go to Scarborough Faire...*whine*
SkyeDS: no season pass this year? cuz of vehicle?
evile: I bought a season pass, but then realized I wasn't going to
use it, so I gave it to a faire friend. I don't trust any of Sweetie's
    cars to get me there.
    SkyeDS: :(
    evile: enh. it's OK.
SkyeDS: we might be travelling to Dallas Mem Day weekend
    evile: I think you should.
SkyeDS: not for Scarbie but for a major event
    evile: SCA, right?
SkyeDS: wouldn't be any trouble to take you to Waxahachie, but you
would need some place to stay andn such
    SkyeDS: nods
evile: Thanks for the offer. I don't think I'll make it, though.
evile: I am probably going to spend all my disposable May income on
MT trip, so won't have any left over for faire.
SkyeDS: surely some of your rennie friends could be prevailed upon to
include you one weekend in a three month time?
evile: I have no friends :P
SkyeDS: lol if you say so
evile: And by end of May I will have no $, which is always a nice
    substitute friend.
SkyeDS: Gabriella from Silver Spire has finally decided to talk to me
about my offer to let HFS hold a Faire at my place. We'll see what
    transpires.
    evile: That would be interesting.
SkyeDS: what I've told them so far is, you rent the porta potties,
    you can use my kitchen.
SkyeDS: as long as I don't have people in my house, all is good.
    evile: good plan.
SkyeDS: if people trash my place, Sineater will kill them.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I hadn't thought about electricity and water, hm.
    evile: Yup...
evile: Some people would be OK with primitive camping, but you'd
    probably have whiners.
SkyeDS: the whiners will probably stay at home and whine
    evile: One would hope.
evile: The cool camping vanagon is making an icky noise whenever Sweetie
    changes gears.
evile: So we are now down to 1 car I can drive, in town at least,
    without fear.
    SkyeDS: nods
SkyeDS: we will have to give serious consideration to carpooling
plans when Sineater starts working again for the same reason
evile: He is starting a NEW new job on May 10. And planning on going
back to school, so he won't have any more free time to dick around
with cars for the next forseeable while.
evile: How is Sineater's job hunt going? It does seem like the market is
    getting better.
SkyeDS: he has had one interview in three months
SkyeDS: and doesn't sound enthused about the prospect of going back
    to Dell.
evile: I can't blame him there.
evile: Work is work, seems that it's easier to find something once
    you've got something.
    SkyeDS: yep
evile: And having something you don't really like is (theoretically)
    motivation to keep looking.
    SkyeDS: yep
SkyeDS: is this a tactful way to phrase this?
evile: Hasn't worked for me, personally, but ...what?
SkyeDS: "Regardign cost, there are costs that would need to be
covered because I can't cover them all by myself, or I would, gladly."
    evile: sure.
SkyeDS: "At the moment, all I can think of are porta potties,
    electricity and water.
SkyeDS: Field showers if there is demand.
    evile: BYOS.
SkyeDS: I would be happy to share bathrooms as well as kitchen except
I'm on a septic tank and not a sewer.
SkyeDS: I'm happy to share electricity and water as lonng as I get
    help paying the bills :)"
    evile: Seems reasonable to me.
SkyeDS: they would be essentially have the site for free
    evile: yup
SkyeDS: I just want to make clear that I'm NOT paying for porta
potties, and that I am not providing electricity and water on my
    quarters.
evile: I don't know her, but by reputation, if anybody's going to do
a good job of organizng something like that & making sure the costs
are covered, it would be Gabriella
SkyeDS: I know. I hide and watch.
SkyeDS: I told her so too.
evile: You might end up doing some groundwork for her, finding
services in your area to deliver & pick up the porta potties...but
that would probably be the extent of it.
SkyeDS: I don't care about the labor
SkyeDS: I care about how the bills get paid
    evile: yup.
evile: Sweetie & I went to a backyard cookout at some of his VW friends'
and he said something about how that would be a 'nice birthday
party'....but hasn't been interested at all when I've mentioned doing
something like that at our house ...boy makes me crazy.
evile: So looks like yet another birthday where I've got to make my
own fun and/or drag him kicking and screaming and pouting into
    whatever I decide to do.
SkyeDS: birthday weekend is third weekend in may yes?
evile: I'll be in MT that weekend. Was looking at the 22nd (4th
    weekend)
SkyeDS: that's the one I meant.
    SkyeDS: looked at calendar wrong
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: how bout you could borrow Sineater and he could do whatever you
    wanted Sweetie to do.
evile: I'm not romantically involved with Sineater...and it's not Sineater's
birthday, too. Thanks for the offer, though.
SkyeDS: well, if you figure that we would want to be there, if we
were invited of course, why shouldn't we help?
    evile: *shrugs* No point.
    SkyeDS: :(
evile: I should just get used to being bored and sad and alone unless
I am willing to fork over the dosh and do all the work in any given
    people- situation.
SkyeDS: the three of us couldn't manage a backyard cookout?
SkyeDS: at your place or wherever?
    evile: The house isn't presentable.
evile: there is no guarantee of being able to get a table at a public
park like Bull Creek unless you went out at the crack.
SkyeDS: well, if you change yoru mind, Sineater and I can either help
with house under your expert direction
SkyeDS: we both do very well when someone else is bossing us around
evile: I wouldn't do that to anyone I liked :P
SkyeDS: or we can go out at the crack of dawn, which we are
accustomed to doing just about every weekend now anyway
evile: And ti's not so much the manual labor aspect of cleaning, but
the fact that it's Sweetie's Stuff scattered hither & yon and I odn't
know where it lives to put it away
SkyeDS: but you don't want much for your birthday, so I don't see why
Sineater and I couldn't give that much to you.
evile: nah. I know you have other things going on, no point in
    wasting a weekend.
SkyeDS: we don't have anything that weekend.
SkyeDS: adn your birthday is not a waste.
evile: Thanks for the offer. :) I don't think I'll do anything, just
    the same.
SkyeDS: kay. lemmee know if you change your mind between now and
    then :)
evile: If I make my own plans and have my own fun without Sweetie, he'll
be all pissy. If I drag him kicking and screaming, he'll be pissy at
first and then have fun after he gets over his pissyness. Either way,
it just isn't worth it to me to have him acting pissy.
evile: It's his birthday too. So I really can't do something that
would exclude him, even if all he wanted to do was sit around in his
underwear and surf the net all day.
SkyeDS: point. I didn'nt think about that.
    SkyeDS: pissy man no fun
SkyeDS: when one of mine is pissy, I tell them, look, you don't seem
to feel well, so I'll just go do by myself, it's cool
SkyeDS: and they are usually obliging enough to change attitudes.
    SkyeDS: or try anyway.
evile: Bad enough that I'm going to Vegas for Xmas. I keep reminding
him of my dates & hotel res. and he keeps acting like it's a huge
    (bad) surprise.
SkyeDS: Sineater doesn't usually know when he's giving off vibes.
evile: Not surprising. Sineater can be pretty dark, even when he's not
    trying.
SkyeDS: plus he gives off vibes early in the morning anyway
SkyeDS: so before I react, I always ask him what his inner vibes are.
    evile: good plan
SkyeDS: and then let him off the hook so I don't drag him if he's
    physically not well.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: well I can see tethering yourself since you share a birthday.
SkyeDS: but if he doesn't want to do Vegas for Xmas, why should you
    tether yourself there.
evile: Yup. Exactly. He has my info if he chooses to remember it, he
can make his own plans and join us, or he can do whatever.
evile: He's talking about FL to visit his relatives at XMas.
SkyeDS: when I quit subjecting myself to Sineater's circle at the time
and started going out by myself to cultivate my own circle
SkyeDS: upon tardily realizing that I am a big girl adn not
    surgically joined at the hip
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: eventually he came around to wanting to include himself - no
    more dragging.
evile: Sweetie could happily sit around in his underwear surfing the net
    from now till doomsday.
evile: While I shrivel away with boredom...
SkyeDS: damn webmail keeps losing my carefully crafted responses
    <kicks it>
evile: We still in Mercury retrograde? :P
    SkyeDS: probably :P
    evile: There ya go.
SkyeDS: Gabriel is one of the biggest whiners about enclosed feast
    halls and showers
SkyeDS: and if the fearsome four (Gabe, PtA adn their women) don't
    show up
    evile: Gabriel? Whiner? stop!! :P
SkyeDS: I can't say as it would be a big loss?
    evile: True enough.
SkyeDS: I told Gabriella, look. I'm not a monarch, I've never
cratted. I'm not real long in the experience area here, but I am
pretty good at reasoning things out, I'm pretty resourceful, and I
    take orders really well :)
evile: Well, you gotta start somewhere. That's how you learn...
SkyeDS: I am happiest when I have someone else telling me what to do.
evile: heh. At least you know that, I guess.
SkyeDS: even with the horse bidness, where I am ostensibly "boss" I
do what I see my mentors do
    evile: yeah.
    evile: brb -potty break.
    evile: back.
    SkyeDS: wb
evile: I still don't know whether or not I'll bother with CRW. A good
excuse to go to the salt lick, I guess.
    SkyeDS: mmm salt lick
SkyeDS: I had lots of pros and cons to consider re Crw v family
    reunion
SkyeDS: and the deciding factors were: gas, and business opportunity
SkyeDS: yes i have to pay entrance for crw, but gas to txka would
    still cost more, I suspect
SkyeDS: and even if I take a loss it's still a business trip
    evile: true.
SkyeDS: but if crw wanted to be serious about its vendors
SkyeDS: as I suspect malikai and myself if no one else would like to
    see
SkyeDS: they ought to consider reducing entrance fees for vendors
evile: Nobody wants to take on the responsiblity of organizing
    vendors.
SkyeDS: if they're going to take a percentage of profits
    SkyeDS: Mimi wants to
SkyeDS: and I don't mind telling you that worries me
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: Mimi I know will find all sorts of reasons I can't sell rides
evile: I'd be sure and have that 100% clear before making the trip
    out to the event...
SkyeDS: I'm cleared for this year already
SkyeDS: I was looking forward to future crws
    SkyeDS: borrowing trouble
SkyeDS: all sorts of things couldhappen. it could be on a different
date than other stuff. it could happen where the horses aren't
allowed, very possibly. Mimi could throw a wrench in it as vendor
    crat. shrug.
    evile: true.
evile: take each year as it comes, I guess.
SkyeDS: at this point I don't even like planning more than two weeks
    in advance for anything
    evile: heh. Yeah.
SkyeDS: everything that requries advance planning also requires $ -
    sigh
SkyeDS: I may have a wedding in roudn rock soon
    SkyeDS: that would be cool
    evile: That would be awesome.
    SkyeDS: period wedding
    evile: very cool!
SkyeDS: carriage company wanted $385 because it was in round rock
SkyeDS: $80 per hour in Austin
    evile: wow!
SkyeDS: so I looked at the neighborhood in question and said tell ya
    what.
SkyeDS: I'll do an hour, two horses, $60
    evile: wow.
SkyeDS: we'll take them from church to somewhere near corner of Egger
    & 79
SkyeDS: bride wants to ride in hoopskirt & Elizabethan
SkyeDS: I said, if it can be done, we'll do it. If we can't, it
    can't be done.
SkyeDS: she wants to ride astride in full panniers, because she saw
    that Elizabeth did it.
    evile: wow...
SkyeDS: no traveling charge because I'll just go to the park and ride
    afterwards.
evile: That's nice of you. Hope it works out :)
SkyeDS: besides, if I can give out cards and flyers, I might get
    lessons out of it.
    evile: true.
SkyeDS: events are possibly the easiest and most lucrative thing I
    could do
    evile: yeah. sounds like.
SkyeDS: both horses are in service at the same time, hence twice the
    fees of lessons or training
SkyeDS: people want to enjoy riding, and not be taught, therefore, no
effort goes into teaching, I just have to lead.
SkyeDS: twice the money half the effort, is good by me.
    SkyeDS: speaking of which, what's up with [brother A] & {Rubber Pig}?
    evile: Haven't heard anything.
SkyeDS: we went to Houston for an event weekend before this last, and
I asked Sineater if he wanted to see his mom while we were close by, but
    he said no.
    evile: I can respect that.
SkyeDS: what's so fuckin funny is, she thinks the reason hedoesn't
    ever visit her is me
SkyeDS: and I'm always the one who says, would you like to go see
    your mother.
evile: And not her own ...abrasiveness...re: his life, religion, etc.
SkyeDS: I used to think that he deliberately let me be portrayed as
the bad guy to make himself look better
SkyeDS: because truthfully I have seen him do that with other people
    in the past
SkyeDS: but where she is concerned, for the present, I think she just
sees what she wants to see anyway
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: the King & Queen of Tx/Ok were at the Stargate Baronial
SkyeDS: and their Herald decided to have a one upmanship contest with
    Arthur
    SkyeDS: adn lost
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: so at this past event, people who weren't there were talking
about what they'd heard, and one of ours pointed at Arthur
SkyeDS: I thought they were pointing at me
SkyeDS: I immediately wondered what the hell I've done now - as usual
    evile: heh!
SkyeDS: I look around thinking, dammit, Mirage has tried to take down
    a pavilion again
SkyeDS: and then thought, um no, there are no pavilions here.
    evile: hee.
SkyeDS: but typically, whenever I hear my name or come under
scrutiny, that is my innate response. What have I/we done now.
    evile: yeah...
SkyeDS: it's very weird to be the subject of conversation *without*
    having done something wrong.
SkyeDS: I will have to get over my desire to crawl under the table
and hide when people are looking at/talking about me/us.
    evile: hee!
    evile: I guess so!
SkyeDS: I think the bards & laurels are disappointed that I have no
    ambition
SkyeDS: Loraine is pleased that Sineater has some ambition, and doesn't
seem to mind that I don't.
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: I already toldh er, I want to learn to do this, it looks like
    fun
SkyeDS: and Sineater, and Randy, and Megan, all want to do it, seriously
SkyeDS: so can I just learn it well enough to teach them, but not
    compete myself?
evile: yeah. I 'm with you. fun for fun.
SkyeDS: we could just like, practice on the list field while nobody
    else is looking
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: although we don't mind being laughed at we're used to it
evile: heh. I hate being laughed at.
SkyeDS: most of the time I do too
SkyeDS: but Mirage and I get ourselves into lots of situations where
we really do deserve to be laughed at
SkyeDS: and it's usually laughingwith, because by that time we're
    laughing at ourselves
    SkyeDS: or afterwards anyway
SkyeDS: people on the rides laugh when I bury my face in mane and
turn the driving over to Mirage
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: which fine with us, she just adopts a longsuffering are we
there yet look and keeps on going until we are there, wherever there
    is
evile: Leave the footwork to the one with the feet on the
    ground...makes sense to me.
SkyeDS: she doesn't need me to be scared, because that scares her.
SkyeDS: so to not be scared, I need to not be lookin.
    evile: exactly.
SkyeDS: I don't need to see that the mexican quarterhorse aptly named
Mountain Goat is having trouble. I just don't.
    evile: nope.
evile: I am going to be sure to ask for 'tourist' trails when I go to
    MT :P
SkyeDS: part of the problem is, what someone else defines as baby
    trails
    evile: right.
SkyeDS: is not the same as what the babiesthemselves consider to be
    baby trails, lol
    evile: heh.
SkyeDS: my resolve is, yes, I admit I am a chicken baby
SkyeDS: but I will not be a whiny baby
SkyeDS: so I will keep my chicken babyness to myself quietly
evile: That's why I'm going to ask for 'tourist' and not 'baby'...I
figure they'll KNOW I am asking for very very easy trails that way.
evile: Some of [sister H]'s clients go for 'horse therapy' of some kind.
SkyeDS: mt will be a gorgeous place to go riding. am envious
    evile: Hopefully.
SkyeDS: they have been using horses for all sorts of physical and
behavioral therapy for a longn time
    SkyeDS: including MS
evile: since they're now part of her work, I wonder if she'll be
interested in riding at all...I guess we'll see.
evile: Most things I do/did for work are no longer much fun for me.
SkyeDS: nods. I didn't touch a piano for years, after playing all
day every day with no time off for three months.
    evile: exactly.
SkyeDS: hopefully she'll want to go with and it will be fun. if not,
hopefully you will have fun anyway
    evile: yup.
evile: I bought a guidebook yesterday, just to have some ideas.
SkyeDS: so many places so little time
SkyeDS: I have a scary thought for you. Mike or X as a doctor.
evile: Yeah, and MT is a big state!
evile: What made you think of that?
SkyeDS: something I'm working on requires me to read through all of
the actions against all the doctors being punished right now
SkyeDS: and some of them are for behavior as bad or worse :(
evile: Doctors and nurses often become addicted to the stuff they
    prescribe/dispense.
SkyeDS: and commit hideous criminal acts.
SkyeDS: including pedophilia, sexual assault, etc.
    evile: Yup.
SkyeDS: operating on the wrong part of the body, irreparably
SkyeDS: oops, I just fused the wrong part of your spine together,
nothing to be done about it now, so sorry
evile: I think drugs are bad. period, end of story. It's not
    rational, but there it is.
SkyeDS: lol well as long as you aren't trying to fight off strep
throat by hugging crystals and trees rather than taking antibiotic.
    evile: heh. point.
SkyeDS: I think people do a lot of damage to liver & kidneys popping
otc nsaids and other stuff like candy, though.
    evile: yup.

evile: Maybe I could do a b-day 'happy hour' on Friday 21st. .. that
might be kind of a win-win. Unless I went and nobody showed up and I
sat around looking and feeling like an idiot.
    SkyeDS: I could make that
SkyeDS: if I brought Sineater in to town withme he could too
evile: I may do that, then.
SkyeDS: he and/or the baby could do whatever they wanted to while I
    was at work
SkyeDS: sorry if I'm slow, I'm not at my desk all the time
evile: no problem. I know you're at work.
    SkyeDS: got a fax.
    evile: yay?
SkyeDS: lol it was a solicitation
    evile: oh, boring.
SkyeDS: I have to have a MRI on my neck
SkyeDS: doctor says if it only hurts when I work then I shouldn't
work. I told him, um, not an option.
    evile: yucko.
evile: Uncle Bob used to work for Social Security PT, he says
physical disability is a lot easier to get than mental...but it's
still a time consuming process, and not anything you would really
want to do unless you really really couldn't make it any other way.
    SkyeDS: I don't know if I'd qualify
    SkyeDS: being self employed
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: and everyone I know has had to sue to get their disability
    (gramma, Bob, probably Daddy soon)
    evile: that sucks!
SkyeDS: I don't know any other thing to do
SkyeDS: all I've ever done is office work my entire life
evile: Hopefully your horse stuff will take off so that you won't
have to do much, if any, office work. Perhaps fewer hours would help
    your neck...
    SkyeDS: what I"m hoping
SkyeDS: this summer should be good for lessons
    evile: yup.
SkyeDS: and maybe two or three months of time away from an office at
    least part time will help
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: it isn't all physical either
SkyeDS: I'm sure some of it is my soaking up stress when Boss is
    stressed
SkyeDS: and I do'nt know how to not do that
    evile: sure.
evile: It's hard not to let the environment get to you. I don't know
    how to do it either.
SkyeDS: I could I suppose try to get a teaching job
SkyeDS: now that that new measure has passed, because I have a
degree, I've already taken and aced the ExCet.
evile: I've thought about it...but dealing with kids 9 months of the
year to have 3 months of vacation...for shitty pay. um...not quite
    worth it.
SkyeDS: they're going to have to do something about the whole teacher
    situation
SkyeDS: they don'[t have enough as it is
SkyeDS: ad a whole bunch are coming up for retirement
evile: It might be worth it to you, since you seem to get along with
    kids better than I do.
evile: the $ is probably no worse than what I get here.
SkyeDS: I am giving it consideration
SkyeDS: I might send out letters to places I'm willing to drive ad
ask them if they are in need of English teachers soon
    SkyeDS: or music teachers.
SkyeDS: I could probably teach spanish or french too
    SkyeDS: have the hours anyway
evile: Yeah, it would be cool to teach what you actually enjoy. That
might be the thing that tipped the scales.
SkyeDS: these small town schools don't seem to have the nonsense that
    AISD does either.
SkyeDS: I mean, all I'm lacking is student teaching
SkyeDS: andn I substitute taught for a year and a half that should be
    worth something
evile: Yeah, teaching at a smaller school, smaller town, might make a
big difference in the kids' attitude.
evile: I ride the bus home with Middle School kids frequently enough
to know that I would not take well to dealing with them all day.
    SkyeDS: oh man
SkyeDS: I can't begin to deal with MS
SkyeDS: but I met an 8th grader at Stargate (Loraine's girl) annd if
I had 8th graders like her, I could deal
SkyeDS: talked to her for a while and realized, it was AISD 8th
    graders I can't take
evile: Most kids are OK in small numbers. But once you get a group
    together they run wild.
SkyeDS: they talk about "mob mentality" in teacher school
evile: Between that and the entitlement-addled parents, I don't think
I could make much headway and actually teach kids anything.
SkyeDS: if I find a halfway decent environment, I'll teach.
    evile: good luck :)
SkyeDS: might make more than I make now but I doubt it
evile: teachers get benefits. Not great ones, but OK. Better than
    nothing.
    SkyeDS: that's true too
    SkyeDS: and summers off
evile: I think that is pretty much the motto of the shrinking middle
class "better than nothing"...we take crappy jobs and shitty
insurance because we know it's better than nothing. And it would be
very easy for a lot of companies to outsource to other countries and
    leave us with nothing.
evile: Teaching, obviously, is never going to go to another country.
So in that sense it's safe.
SkyeDS: although lately other countries are doing a better job of it
    than us
evile: I find it very difficult to understand why teachers get so
very little ...especially when my property taxes are so high
SkyeDS: by doing things the way we used to, lol
SkyeDS: they are the lowest paid degreed professionals goin.
evile: That's not 'lately'...that's 'always'. In college I met lots
of foreign students who were TONS more clue-ful than me re: history,
world events etc...and much better able to draw connections betwee
history & world events than me.
evile: the US has been using schools to indoctrinate patriotic non-
thinking behavior for a long time.
SkyeDS: well, but we originally pioneered public education
SkyeDS: and in 1859, what is now college algebra was taught at the
    8th grade level
evile: To me, I think it would mean more if parents/kids had to pay
    for it.
    SkyeDS: of course it would
SkyeDS: which is why I've wanted to privatize for a lonng time
SkyeDS: and failing that, charter schools
SkyeDS: Austin has good charter schools now
SkyeDS: I hope they succeed financially
evile: [goddessdaughter] was in one before her parents went nucking futs. One of
her teachers was an old RHPS friend of Xs, and a pedophile.
    SkyeDS: lovely
evile: Color me UNimpressed by that representative sample...
evile: both of 'excellent' student and 'excellent' educator.
SkyeDS: I've heard good things about the one they run out of
    chaparall ice center
SkyeDS: Star charter I think it's called
SkyeDS: but lots of people are pooling together to homeschool
SkyeDS: and forming networks and such and that's practically the same
    as charter schooling too.
evile: One of the austin polys does homeschooling. he's awesome.
SkyeDS: if I had four other teachers I could either make my own
charter or homeschool a small group
evile: Maybe as you make more connections in the community up there,
    it'll happen...
SkyeDS: I don't know if anyone in the triangle homeschools or not.
evile: there was a yahoo group for pagan homeschoolers in TX. I
wasn't interested, of course, but you might want to dig around & see
    if you can find it.
evile: they announced the new group in one of the other pagan groups
I was reading. since then, I've dropped all the pagan groups. Got
    tired of the fighting.
SkyeDS: I was seriously considering leaving the teaching group
SkyeDS: I am biding my time
SkyeDS: I don't read any of the other pagan groups I belong to, I
    haven't had time lately
    evile: yeah.
SkyeDS: nearly time for your bus ride with the schoolkids.
evile: Almost. I should make my rounds.
SkyeDS: <hugs> have a good trip home
evile: I'll keep ya posted on the happy hour thing. I should maybe
check out a couple of places downtown before I have people out to
    someplace I've never been....
evile: *hugs* Talk at ya later :)
SkyeDS: I'm sure there will be lots of good places adn hard to choose
    one
    evile: I hope so!
    SkyeDS: ciao bella :)
    evile: see ya!
