Carraba's FTW

I don't really go to Italian restaurants--I'm generally not a fan of hot, chunky tomato stuff and don't see the point of paying $15 for a plate of spaghetti I could make at home for $2. And if I get ambitious, I know how to make things like lasagne, manicotti, etc. that are better & cheaper than restaurant food.

But last night I got home late from the chiropractor, Thax was very hungry and craving a Calzone, so we went to Carraba's. They didn't have Calzone on the menu, so he settled for Pizza Rustica.

They have a summer special that is an appetizer, soup, or salad, plus entree, plus dessert, for the price of the entree.

I had calimari, grilled chicken & veggies, and a 'cannoli in a cup' for $14.

It's way too much food for one person or one meal. I shared the calimari & dessert with Thax, had a few bites of the chicken & veggies and saved the rest for lunch today. (I'm writing this because it's 22 minutes till lunch time and I am ready for those yummy left-overs)

Anyway, good stuff. I recommend.

Good Italian is a lot more than just hot hunks of tomato.

Yeah, tell that to 99% of the italian places out there.

Other than the small cup of marinara on the side of my calimari, there was not a drop of sauce--neither feculent nasty tomato sauce nor slimy greasy filthy nasty alfredo anywhere near my dinner.
