Animal Domestic Abuse: The Silent Victims

Animal Domestic Abuse: The Silent Victims
Many homes where there is spousal abuse there is also animal abuse. Many of the abused put off leaving for fear of what will happen to their beloved pets.

I went to a workshop on this at the social work convention... I have a bunch of info on it if you would like it.

If you know of any local organizations that are like the Nevada organization they mentioned; places that will help domestic violence victims find a safe place for their animals while they get away from their abuser and make a new home for them...that would be cool.

I know I wouldn't leave any of my babies with an abusive spouse. Cutting off his ears with garden shears? I'd like to get that guy tied up and get a go at him with garden shears. That article made me sad and angry. I know a dog will piss it's self when scared. Then they get beaten for peeing in the house. I really hate abusers and I'd do more than cut off their ears. Thank God for the new shelters.

Us (more or less) Normal people really develop bonds to their animal friends; they are our family. Sometimes they're like our own kids. The sad and awful thing is that abusive individuals see tender emotions as a 'weakness'. They are not capable of feeling that kind of emotion themselves, they can certainly recognize it and exploit it for their own benefit. Anything you care about, they use against you. It's a horrible, sick, sad feeling to know that your love and caring --your basic human GOODNESS!--is viewed by some sick nut as a way to control and manipulate you.

IMHO, animal abuse is not taken seriously enough by law enforcement. Even though it's known that psychopaths start with torturing and killing animals and work their way 'up' to torturing and killing humans.

I'm with you. If I ever caught someone abusing my animals, there wouldn't be enough left of them for law enforcment to do anything.
